Alright First start with ferret, plate, and spoon on your lap. Use the spoon instead of finger feeding now. Just keep putting the full spoon to his mouth and he will start licking it. Once he accepts the spoon, start lowering it to the dish. When the spoon is basically IN the dish move it aside so he takes a lick or two from the plate. Odds are he will stop when he realizes what he is licking from for the first while. Just keep repeating until he is eating from the dish on your lap, then move to the floor or cage or wherever you want him eating

We will keep encouraging him to eat from the spoon. Right now, its fingers or nothing! He is a very stubborn little guy, isn't he!?!

Oh they can be! Just keep offering from the spoon first, and don't let him down as soon as he moves to get away. Keep hold of him and keep offering! The video in this link may give you an idea of what I mean holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/4344

funny thing with ferrets is that you have to be more stubborn. someone has to give up eventually and that should be Dook :heehee:

So far, no change. I think this weekend while I'm home, im going to put Dook in the cage with no other food and see if he eats on his own. He accepts it as food on my finger... Does this sound like a good idea?

As of last night, everyone but Sir Dooks-A-Lot will eat the rabbit/kibble mix off if the plate. Seriously. Without ever introducing it to them. They just eat it! Ferrets suck sometimes

LOL maybe you should put Dook with them while eating, some ferrets dig into the food right away when they see others eating.

I would. Keep putting him up to the dish with them. Also keep feeding him from the spoon first. If he insists on getting down, let him do so for 5 minutes or so, then pick him up and start offering from the spoon again. Keep doing this.

Actually just had a thought of something that may work. Using a flat dish for him, as he is licking the food from your finger, try lowering that in the same method I mentioned previously with the spoon.

Hi, sorry for the absence. With the holiday weekend, work has been crazy! We are doing carafate 3xs a day, and I just picked up prednisone to try. Dook has dropped again, 1lb 10oz.
