Thats awesome! I have a smaller ninja too it works great. Have you started trying to slip some small chunks or slivers into her food?

I haven't yet, just ground all of the meat at once and portioned everything out for the homemade raw transition. Next time I go out for chicken thighs I will keep some slivers out

Yep! She just finished her first day's portions of 100% raw, and has enough left for a little over a week. I'm going to go out sometime this week to get more thighs so I can make some more batches. I know that I need to start putting small chunks and slivers in, to get her used to biting and chewing, but what's the next step after that? Am I trying to get her on frankenprey as a step to whole prey? And should I start making mixes with different animals now or later?

You can start mixing in different proteins in small amounts so hopefully she doesnt snub them. The next step is to make the grinds as thick as possible and add more and more chunks in. You can stay ln franken prey or start transitioning to whole prey. To get mine eating mice I chopped up mice into small chunks and mixed in normal food. Just make sure the mice are mostly frozen. Cutting into defrosted mouse is really hard and messy.

Late update, I'm sorry I started my second job about three weeks ago and have hardly had time for anything, it seems. The batch that she is on now isn't going over super great. I accidentally bought the thighs with skin, but I figured that I could just debone them and that the skin would be a good transitional thing. She hates it, basically, lol. Now I know that I need to keep everything more or less compose just of internal organs, at least for a while. I've had to pay off my summer course out of pocket, too, so I haven't had any extra cash to go buy more meats to throw in there. I can barely get her to eat what she's got, but luckily we are almost through this batch and I can try again. I'll head to the Asian Market and see what I can find for "exotic" organs Do I need to start replacing the preexisting ingredients (say, putting beef livers in instead of chicken), or just add in the extra meats? My mom tells me that ferrets can't get too much heart, so I may start adding those in before anything else if I'm not replacing anything.

So I took in four 3-week old kittens a few days ago to foster, and one of them is doing really poorly. They're orphans and the runt is very sick - bloody stools, smelly (clean him after every meal and just smells /sick/), yellow and pungent urine, cristae larvae wound on his back, unresponsive to a bottle, etc. Do you have any experience bottle raising kittens?

That one needs vetting asap, subq fluids etc. You cannot treat him at home successfully. Or let's just say odds are against it.

Update on kittens! Sorry if you're forever going to get notifications on this thread, Sherry, lol. The little white one's name is Triforce. He's been doing AMAZING the past few days, and has really bounced back from the brink. He's eating really well, playing with the others, walking much more, talking and demanding to be fed, etc.
I'm working on getting all three of them on solid food and was wondering whether there is a different soupie mix that you need for kittens. Like, do they need more calcium, organs, etc.? They've all tried a little of what I have for Kemuri and they're crazy about it, so no worries on getting them to actually eat.
Also, a few of them are most likely going to be adopted by my mom and I, so they're going to stay on raw. For the other one, though, since he's going back to the shelter to be adopted out, should I be getting him used to canned and dry? I hate to do it, but I don't want him to thrive here and then not eat once he's back at the shelter.

Also, my biggest kitten (around 13oz) bit off and swallowed the nipple from his bottle today. It was one of the long, narrow ones, and he got maybe half an inch of it. He didn't seem phased and is acting ok. I've been reading that this is really common and that most vets will just tell you to watch and see if it's voided. Has this happened to you before?

Lol that has not happened to me. Once they get enough teeth to do that its usually past time to transition to a syringe and then independent eating off a plate.

I've been so busy with the kittens and a hundred other things, I'm sorry that I haven't messaged much I'm going to commit to getting on more frequently, though. At the very least, once a week should be my goal, I think. Where I am right now: Kemuri is still eating her puree'd chicken, mostly because I've been making food so much more frequently with the kittens that separating her food from theirs, and putting little slivers in it, is almost impossible to find time for. They are all over two pounds now, though, so the extras should be in other homes or at the shelter soon. I'm keeping one - the little white one on the Facebook post. Her name is Louise The kittens were eating several different kinds of meat for a while, to keep them used to different stuff, but the store where I got the different meats is too far out of the way for me to have bought it regularly. They're currently eating small, bite-sized chicken chunks, none big enough to choke on. Same mix as the soupies. I'd like to have supplies to start trying Lou on frozen-thawed in the next week or two (after they all get fixed.) I looked on Hare Today and calculated price per ounce for all of the whole prey 5oz or less. - What advice do you have for me to start a kitten on frozen-thawed? - What kind of meat is the best? Price wise, day old quail and sardines are the ones I'm favoring. - When can I increase the size of the meat chunks? - Should I try frankenprey before frozen-thawed?
