Ok, ill pick up more chicken then and make twice as much soup now. She ran through about 8 ounces of soup now in a little over 24 hours.

So her poop has been this really dark brown, almost black. Its a lot more liquidy than the kibble poop. Not like diarhea but close to it

I looked at the poop chart and saw other info that said gizzards are high in blood, and blood causes darker loose stools. So I guess its normal since the soup is made with gizzards (the new one I made has gizzards and the other batch is turkey breast).

Ive been mixing in small slivers of chicken and turkey in her soup but she just picks them out and leaves them by her bowl. No problem eating the soup but shes not taking the unblended meat. I made her soup for tonight with smaller slivers.
Her poops have been diarhea and mucous mostly, this tan white mucousy poop.

Ive been puttimg bigger pieces in her bowl and havent been able to find them in her cage, so pretty good so far. Right now shes up to thumb sized boneless chunks of chicken in her soup

So how is your little one doing?
yes that is normal for gizzards--- gizzards give all mine lose stools, but abbey gets dark diarrhea with duck gizzards and duck hearts and also chicken gizzards and hearts) I like to follow with a cut up mouse(mine tend to stash whole mice, so that is why I just cut them up)

She has noticeably more energy since stopping kibble and has gotten a lot bigger. I havent even had her for 2 weeks and she looks like she grew 1/4 in size

So yesterday morning was her last meal with soup. I gave her some good sized chunks of breast and an ounce of beef heart which she ate no problem. I bought some chicken wings today and will try those out tonight. Ill also be getting turkey and another type of meat for her when I go to the meat place this weei, probably goat or beef. Ill see how she does with the chicken liver and beef kidney when I give her her first organ meal

Shes doing good on the wing. I gave her about 1/2 of one, the tip end with the bones a little broken with a knife, but mostly whole. I just checked to see if she could handle it and she ate half of it already, and I watched her crunch up a nice sized piece of bone. So shes off soup and is readily taking bones. Hopefully she likes the chicken liver ajd beef kidney, and she will be completely on the frankenprey diet and done with the transition.

Liver and kidney have been successful. Shes not eating the whole bone though. Ill cut the wing into threes and snap parts of it with scissors. Im constantly finding pieces of bone in her cage and on the floor right next to the cage. She eats all the chicken off of it and gets some chips of bone, because I saw bone fragment in her poop when she first started, and the ends of the bone will look like theyve had pieces chewed off it. So im not sure if shes getting the calcium she needs if shes leaving a good amount of it uneaten. Is that normal and will her jaw strength improve as I continue feeding bone? I think im going to have to start crushing the bone to fragment it rather than cut it into smaller pieces

It sounds like you're doing very well. I'm interested to know what you are doing as far as the bone goes. I'm just starting soup with mine now and I have to say, I'm nervous to give them bone. I'm trying to follow a bunch of people's switches so keep on posting!

Hi Cody, it looks like you have had some nice progress with Smokey. Bones are often tough to grasp at first for them, but yes with time her jaw strength will increase. Gizzards are great for this also. Crushing the bones for a bit is a good idea and little by little crush them less and less. How are her poops looking these days? If she isn't eating enough of the bones yet it is ok to dust her food with a little bone meal or egg shells to help her get her calcium in. As a kit she needs lots of calcium still.

So I took some boned chicken, I believe it was thigh, and I wrapped it up in a few layers of saran wrap and bashed it with a hammer. The bone was crumbled up and she did prettt good with that. I know shes eating some bone at least, because ive watched her eat and ill see her crunching on it. Im finding a lot less bone fragments, im pretty sure its just the paieces that fall out from her dragging it through her cage. As I type im listening to her crunch up some of it right now. She is now officially on the frankenprey model.
That said, I now suspect she was older than what they told me at the store. They said that she was about 12 weeks, maybe a little older, but she does not look like any of the pictures of 12 week old ferrets I saw online (shed be about 15 weeks now if its true). They gave me a birth certificate that said june 2013, but told me it wasnt the right date. I just brought home a new ferret today, Django. His birth certificate says he is 7 to 8 weeks old and he is 1/3 her size. She looks like a giant compared to him. Django also is readily eating the chicken she is eating right now. Smokey also doesnt eat a huge amount, Ill put about 2 to 3 ounces in her bowl and shell often take the whole day to eat it. All that combined makes me think she might have beem an adult when I got her, or at least a lot older than they said.

If you can get some pictures of her teeth and then create a thread asking for age guesses that might be helpful for you. There are a few here that are good at guessing age by teeth.
