Alright folks. I'm looking at getting a couple kits this spring. Thing is I really don't want to get from petstore if at all possible. I want my ferret kits to not be descented. And I want to get them fixed at an appropriate age. Anybody willing to do business here???

It would be helpful if you gave your location.

Most breeders want to make sure their kits go to a good and happy healthy home. I'll tag some of our breeders for you and you can talk to them. Some of them now have some kits who have just been born and are still with their Mom's. Check out PVO Ferrets, Pam Van Overloop has new kits at PVO ferrets.com and she is on Facebook. Heather nancyl and crazylady will also weigh in with info for you. The breeder community is a lovely group and always willing to help provide information.

Ponce's you are awesome. I am in Texas sorry. I am willing to drive a ways for a good kit. I don't care About color or sex. As long as the little booger is happy and healthy. I'm looking to get it fixed at about 7 months and am not planning on descenting him.her. I used to take care of Ferrets at the petstore 15 years ago and it was my primary job. The poor things were descented and fixed before even 8 weeks. I told myself I wouldn't get a ferret til I was completely ready for one. Now I am 30 have a son and house and ready for my own little booger to bond with and take with me everywhere.

Pam is awesome a d have been talking to her. But she is in Ohio. I'm on top notch ferrets (Rita littles) list. But I will be lucky if I can get one lil kit from her. She has been great. However I am wanting two for when I am at work. Though I get off at 3. I want the lil kit to have a companion as well. So am looking for another kit.

Most have you sign a contract not to physically desex if at all possible prior to a year, but many will allow you to use deslorelin to implant. You can also get a ferret who, while not technically a baby, has been kept back by the breeder for a potential line, but then they change their mind. Those are often about a year or so old.

Hmm good to know. Well if waiting to desex around a year is better. I will do whatever is better for the lil booger.

Joan is out his way. She's just placed both her oops kits though (at least I believe so). I don't know if she's going to be breeding again this year or not. She doesn't allow for the use of the Superlorin implant (DES) or at least she didn't the last time I spoke to her. She has very strict contacts but awesome, awesome kits. ciao

Joan will not place a kit with anyone who had not had previous experience with ferrets. And then ONLY a hob. She will not place a jill with anyone who has not had experience with anyone who has not had experience with an intact male.

Placing hybrid jills is always a difficult deal. They're so strong willed and independent that it takes special care and definitely not for the untried. I wasn't really thinking of her jills. They're only placed with her most trusted ferrants and people she knows and trusts. Joan's ferrets might not be a good fit....but she's really good for instructing and meeting with. Her kits are always well socialized and she might have a gentler hob. She at least has some really good meet and greets. There's always Linda but the kits she's got on the ground this year are poley by decent (I think out of Joan's jill). I think she also imported this year as well. It's out of the way too. I'm not as familiar with her kits. Jennifer's ferrets were very nice and fairly even tempered from what I remember. They were from Linda's. ciao

Well at the very least from what I hear i wouldn't mind meeting with her just to see and get some tips from another breeder in the area.

I'll tag @muchasbellas for you. She's a Mentor and lives in Texas. She may also know of any shows in Texas where you can meet Breeders and see alot of Ferrets who are both show quality and non professional show ferrets.
