Hello all, thankyou for letting me join your forum ? we have 2 ferrets and are not new to them but have a question for the more experienced amongst you. Our boy Eric is 4 years old and last night came in for his daily play hour. Anyhow he was in his peep hole box and started screaming like we've never heard before, my son tried to get him out and got bitten as Eric was in such a panic (Eric doesn't bite) my son saw an approx 3" intestinal tube protruding from Eric's bum and panicked - as you would! Anyway after a mad 30 second panic Eric stopped screaming came out of his box and was normal? ? He is normal today eating and playing well - can any of you shed some Light? I've never know this to happen before and don't know if he screamed as his bum hurt or screamed for some Other reason to cause the protrution

Thanks Libby - it was the most terrifying scream, sent chills through us all!! Naturally I can take him to the vets but he is perfectly normal again? Such a mystery

I just sent Heather a message because I don't want to steer you wrong but I would be highly concerned, she will know best though.
To me I think blockage, they move around so fine atm might be pain the next second.

Vet...ASAP It shouldn't be normal now but it sounds like he may have passed a blockage. I would have him checked out to make sure no damage was done to the bowel itself. ciao

Yes he has an appointment tomorrow but unfortunately our vets aren't too good with the ferrets. Hence why I'd ask advice here before hand. He is pooing normally and his tummy is soft! It was weird, not like a prolapse which is red - looked like the poo tract of a rabbit (seen it when gutting rabbits ). Thanks for your help x

Did you find a stool? Could it have been a dry stool that was protruding? I would be vetting sooner but to be honest without seeing it, I don't really know ciao

Did you find anything in that stool to explain the issue?

Must admit I have thrown the box he was playing in away as I thought that could have happened, maybe he did do something as simple as catch a nail and then he screamed so hard it did produce a little prolapse ? To be honest we all just panicked as I've never heard such a spine chilling noise before! I did sort through the poos but saw nothing unusual - none particularly wet or hard /dry. Hopefully we won't ever see this again x
