Good luck with the move, Joan! I absolutely dread doing that as well. Which is likely why we've been here since '96 ;D And I like the way you socialize your kits. What a good idea

If I could afford to hire someone to do all the packing, I wouldn't mind moving. I socialize the kits the same way I socialized my pups during the almost 30 years I showed and bred Basenjis...it works for them as well as it did for the pups. Must admit, though, the kits are a lot nippier than the pups were...they were completely nip trained by the time they were 7 weeks old. It's an ongoing process for the kits through 4-5 months, as I ignore light playful nipping with them and only correct if the nipping starts to escalate. Since I breed and select for a high nip/bite threshold, it's not that difficult to teach most of the kits their limits. One of the reasons I'm so pleased with Basil and Cybill, and delighted that I was able to acquire them, is that neither of them has ever tried to bite, even the first time I did their nails. They'll put their teeth on my hand occasionally when they're playing, but never exert any pressure. From their former owner's description of them at 6 months old when he acquired them, they had not been socialized to people at all. He did a fantastic job with them, as they've been fine with me and everyone they've met.
