I wish I would have tried giving him chicken wings earlier! He loves them. I cut the tip and mid section of the wing into 1 to 1 1/2 inch chunks. He is eating everything, even the bone. Of course, he has to drag it off the plate and eat in a corner, but since it is not messy like the grinds he could eat it in his hammock for all I care.

It's great he's eating those chunks! What an adorable baby When you cut them up aim for longer and thinner chunks, rather then blockier cubes. The long ones are easier for them to hold on to. And keep increasing the chunk size, he should be able to start dealing with bits the size of a whole chicken wing. Some people hook (using shower hooks or zip ties) a large piece of meat right onto the cage bars, so the ferret can't go dragging it away (for you to find by smell a week later).

As he is eating it well, I would also just give him a whole wing and see what he does with it Also, now is the time to start introducing things like liver, kidney, heart, as well as other proteins while he is open to it.

Yep, NOW is the time to give him anything and everything to expand his palate so he isn't picky when older.

@sveta, I cut up some chicken wings last night and tried to make them an easier shape for him to hold. He was doing okay, but I wouldn't want him to get frustrated or have problem chewing it.
I will definitely introduce some new foods to him tomorrow. I'll prepare it tonight so it will be ready to go. I have rabbit grind and duck grind, which one should I try first? I can get some organs next time I go to the store. Also, when is a good time to feed him egg?

Anytime is good for egg Just keep it to 1-2 per week. Rabbit is more lean, Duck is more fatty. In truth you should try to get him just chunks of meat rather than grinds, those are too easy bones and gizzards will clean his teeth, and large chunks he has to chew from will provide mental stimulation for his growing mind Once you get the organs, we can help organize you a weekly menu for the little one, so he has everything he needs (dance)

Ideally he would be on frankenprey, but unfortunately my mom is concerned about contamination from the raw meat. We both agreed on commercial grinds, and she will let me supplement it with organs and things like chicken wings. I'm feeding him Bravo! Basics. I have the chicken, duck, and rabbit. They have the meat, bones, and organs like liver, gizzard, and heart in them. Kato seems to like the rabbit! He ate a lot of it last night, and I mixed the leftovers up with chicken to give him in the morning. I thought the rabbit would be the hardest to get him used to since it is not poultry, so that's what I tried first. Next I'll try the duck.

Your family doesn't prep and eat meat then? Or does she mean from it laying about? If the latter you can fix a feeding den and anchor his meats in there.

Otherwise you just prep and clean like you would after cooking meat for yourself

Yeah, I'm a little confused buy that comment. How are commercial raw grinds different than frankenprey? It's just grocery store meat.

I don't agree with my mom, it's just what she believes. It seems futile to argue with her when it is her house. That said, I think with time we can introduce a less commercial diet. Right now I need to show her it is possible to feed raw without infecting the entire family with salmonella. I think it would be helpful if I could also find places to source the 3 different protein sources + organs from. Any experience with finding meat would be great. I'm not sure what to look for in a good butcher, and I would rather go to a market if possible. Kato is eating duck now too! I'm trying not to go too fast for him, but I don't want to miss this short window of time for him to adjust to new foods. So far it seems to be going well. I leave food out almost all the time for him, so he always has something to snack on. The only exception is when he is out playing in my room. I'd prefer to not have him try to cache chicken bits in my blankets.
