Hello there!!
My husband and I just bought two 2 ½-3 month old female ferrets from Petco. We have had them for around 3 weeks and absolutely love them. For the first two weeks, we gave them the same kibble Petco was feeding them. But now that they are comfortable in their new environment, I have started to switch them to a raw diet. I’ve been making them a raw soup that I found on here.
*8 oz. chicken (but I’ve been using ground beef, turkey, and chicken. Switching it up for them)
* 1 oz. liver. *1 oz. heart. * ½ tsp. crushed egg shell. *warm water and blended together.
My question is… how much of this soup do I give them? I started off putting 3 oz. of the soup in their bowl in the morning with Kibble crushed on top of it. By the time I was home on my lunch break… it was already all gone. So I gave them another 3 oz. without kibble. They ate all of it within 2-4 hours. THEN I gave them another 3 oz. for dinner and they ate it all right away… LOL.
The next morning I gave them 3.5 oz. for breakfast with little chunks of ground beef in it, and they ate it all just as fast as the day before.
Is this because they are still so young?
This morning I filled the bowl with 4 oz. + chunks of beef and heart. I’m worried I am over feeding them… but they seem so hungry…LOL. They won’t eat whole chunks or bone yet… so I’m just taking it slow.
Once they finish their food do I just leave it empty until dinner? IDK what to do… LOL.

Baby ferrets are tummies with teeth. Their stomachs are bottomless pits.
Baby kits should be fed as much as they will eat. My baby Riker eats 6 - 8 oz a day all on his own.

Thank you! This makes me feel better about feeding them as much as I am ☺

It's true a baby ferret grows so fast within the first 6 months of their lives they eat everything. Try feeding some whole meats with bone in it so they have to actually chew. This will help those little furry tummies with teeth slow down a bit. ciao

You have had some very good advice and are off to a good start. They are growing babies and will eat sooooo much plus they're filling up on the lost nutrients from the kibble. Keep feeding them and relax knowing that once they are satisfied and a little older, they will slow down. A grown female (9-12 months) will only eat about 2-3 ounces a day and a grown male will eat about 3-4 ounces in one day. They eat more in the winter and less in the spring. Welcome to Ferrenthood! You're in for one really fun ride.
