Yes, his name is Philbert from Rocko. It was that or Tudor, from Tennessee Tuxedo, which would be appropriate since we are in Tennessee. We believe he's an Eastern Painted. All of his markings are red, other than on his head. We have missed our Florida turtle gang so much we've been looking into building ponds, etc, but we are renting for now, so we have been looking for little terps. We found him (?) on craigslist. A couple claims to be redoing their house and he's not getting enough care and there is too much dirt and dust blah blah. He was very lively coming home and when introduced to his tank, but now he's settled down. He must have been handled a lot. as we haven't seen any real signs of panic. Dar was holding him in the car and his head was out looking around. The lady we got him from says she got him from a herp rescue in the next town. She said she will send us his email. The girls we got his tank from said their friend has 4 ferrets.

I love turtle expressions. From his face it looks like he is saying, "Would you mind. I'm doing something over here." I love his name by the way and his markings are pretty.

He's in a 10 gallon now but Petsmart had a $1/gallon tank sale this week so he'l be moving up to a 40 gal as soon as we get him a new filter. He seems to be a quick learner. We got him a feeder fish when we bought his new tank and it had no chance. It was gone 10 minutes after Dar put it in the tank.

He is just adorable and so lucky to have found you and Dar. I know how much you miss the turtles from back home. It will be fun to hear about Philbert and see how you find other ways to indulge your turtle passion.

I think you should have named him Gamera. It was the first thing I thought of when I saw this pic.

We haven't talked about Philb much because as a terp he's pretty mellow and quiet. Over the winter he moved into a 40 gal tank with a much upgraded filter and river rock basking area. He was really happy to have the extra space. We also re-purposed the ferrets' kiddie pool for the summer so he can get out on the deck and get some real sunlight. It has a submerged filter as well as a waterfall filter. He loves it, as the artificial heat and UV lamps didn't seem to be doing enough for his shell. He's now shedding scutes and looks and acts healthy. He likes walking around on the deck, too. The ferts will either get this kiddie pool back in fall or maybe a bigger one if we can catch them on sale at the end of the season.

Really like that kiddie pool set up. Did not know they needed sunlight for shell.

Really like that kiddie pool set up. Did not know they needed sunlight for shell. They do need to bask. We have uva and uvb lights in his indoor tank but he doesn't seem to like them that much. He spends a lot more time basking in real sunlight outdoors. When indoors, he hasn't shed any scutes that we've seen, maybe just because he's wet almost all the time and if he has they just went into the tank. Outside we can see scutes peeling. Hard to resist the temptation to help them along, lol
