They will be getting a whole bone in meat today, sorry I hadn't replied yet to you. We lost power due to snow.

The boys at the meat around the hook and stashed it after nibbling on it a bit. well I guess the hook didn't work that well, I may need to hook it through the wing bones.

That's a great start though! At least they recognise the whole thing as food. Hooking through the wing bones would probably be better, but keep trying. That's a really good try~

Yeah so then I gave them half bone in meat in their bowls for dinner tonight. They did well with that. I'm going to try the lamb leg joint and meat in the morning with hooks tomorrow and then a whole rabbit leg during dinner no hooks but in their bowls maybe it's the hooks. I just hate where they stash the meats.... it's either the litter box or on the fuzzy mat. So either way I have to wash the meat off.

That's Fantastic! They're eating bone in meats well when they're chopped in half and you don't need to crush them down. I find that chopping things like wings in half or chopping necks into discs make it easier to divide when bagging meals. I think you're definitely ready to graduate now that Bonbon and Benji are on a balanced diet and eating bone in meats pretty good. Do you feel that you are ready or would you like more time? If you are ready, let me know and I can give you your final exam and also submit your menu if you like. (dance)

I don't know. I fear what happens when I graduate, if I have a question or concern about my boys diet, or poop [img src="http://i1105.photobucket.com/albums/h352/JW_2012/Emoticons/ .gif" style="max-width:100%;" src="http://i1105.photobucket.com/albums/h352/JW_2012/Emoticons/ .gif"]. Like the other day I thought they had mint green poop but it was the dark blue litter box adding a tint to it , because when I took pics it came out yellow everytime and they had eggs that day. So maybe a little more time. I'm sorry [img src="http://i1105.photobucket.com/albums/h352/JW_2012/Emoticons/ .png" src="http://i1105.photobucket.com/albums/h352/JW_2012/Emoticons/ .png" style="max-width:100%;"]* I just feel uneasy. Like I am happy I did well with it. I have a knowledgeable background of animal diets from working at the local zoo for the summer....but I haven't really experienced anything bad with my ferrets medically and I worry that once I don't have a mentor it will happen and I won't have someone there I can trust for answers. It may seem weird and selfish of me.

It may seem weird and selfish of me. That's understandable~ Graduating can feel little unnerving and if you feel you need more time, then that is fine with me. You know more than just the basics, so I think you're ready to venture off on your own when you're ready to do so. When you do graduate, remember that I'm only a PM a way if you need any help. (I'm pretty active both on Facebook and the Forum) The same would also apply for the other mentors. We'll always be here to give you on going support when needed so you're never really fully on your own. If you also have a facebook, I (and other mentors) can also be contacted though that for emergencies. You can tag us on the group and there should always be someone who will be there. Feel free to add me if you have an account as well. Zoo Work experience must have been pretty fun! I was going to do something like that back when I was in high school but ended up starting with a Horse stud instead. (Still fun!) When you see concerning poop, feel free to post it here. Sometimes you will see the odd stress poop here and there. I also had the same scare once with egg poop in a blu litter box. When you see a concerning poop, simply monitor the ferret and check out the next poop. As long as it doesn't happen on a regular basis, then there shouldn't be much to worry about. If green poop that is runny (Diarrhoea and isn't egg poop) continues more than once, it can be quite dangerous if its not monitored. Since you brought up the subject, I thought I would bring up ECE. ECE is Epizootic Catarrhal Enteritis. One of the main symptoms of ECE is the "green slime" poop. It apparently is a bright green colour, and is very runny. The sad thing is that there is no test or vaccine for ECE. Symptoms are also not restricted to ECE. (bacterial overgrowth, lymphocytic gastroenteritis, Lymphosarcoma, coccidiosis, and eosinophilic gastroenteritis.) Here's a thread on ECE. It's worth reading about and taking note for emergencies. holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/2978/ece-epizootic-catarrhal-enteritis There's an example of the colour on the poop chart. holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/2469/poop-chart

Thanks for the thread and I do have a facebook. I tried joining the Facebook group a long time ago but no one ever accepted the invite. But if you have a Facebook you could always add me, I'm not sure what to look under for you. My names Krista Watters, and my profile pictures a picture of me and the boys.

Since the boys are doing well with their proteins, I decided to give you a lesson on IBD. It's a really good read, so take your time.

There's a huge variety of subjects when it comes to raw feeding and ferret health. We actually don't have a list of lessons that go in any particular order, so we give them when ever feels like a good time for it. I can give you more frequent lessons if that's what you would like ^^~ I will also give you little pop quizzes to follow up with them. For now, How are Bonbon and Benji with the bone in meats? Could you give me an update thanks~

Bonbon and Benji's are doing good with the bone in meats. They do better with the half cuts of meat more so then the whole cuts of bone. Examples: a whole chicken wing vs. A chicken wing where the bones are cut in half marrow showing. The boys both seem to like the marrow showing a as I catch them licking at it and then eating the meat around it and crunching the bone to get more marrow. Maybe they just get bored of all the meat around the whole bone before the reach the marrow. I'm not sure but we will be testing it some more. Tomorrow morning they will be getting a rabbit leg and hip on a metal hook. I really need to get this pictures uploaded so I can show you my set up.
P.s. still haven't gotten tapatalk to work lol.
P.s.s. Benji weighed in today at 3 lbs 7.0oz and 15inches. Bonbon weighed in today at 2 lbs 12.8oz and is 13 inches. Tomorrow's meals consist of AM whole BI rabbit meat, egg, BNLS beef meat As for next week's menu it's as followed Mon chicken heart am, (half)turkey wing PM Tues BNLS lamb meat am, CGH BI legs PM Wed BNLS rabbit, organ meal PM, egg Thurs (whole)Turkey wing am,CGH breast meat PM Fri BNLS lamb AM, BI rabbit PM Sat turkey necks AM, chicken hearts/beefliver/rabbit kidney PM Sun CGH BoneIn AM, BI lamb piece.
