Besides the ferrets, we have 3 cats and a couple of fishtanks...I keep several varieties of Australian rainbowfish in my 75 gallon and a betta and cherry shrimp in my 5 gallon. Partial shot of the big tank: Cassanova the betta teasing our kitty Kyou: We originally adopted two kittens, Kiba and Sasuke, about 2.5 years ago...they're brothers and the last two of their litter left at the Humane Society. They gave us Kiba free because they have a hard time finding homes for black cats and didn't want the two to be separated...it worked for us since we wanted both anyway ;D. They're pretty much inseparable...Kiba's the black one and Sasuke's the tabby: A bit older and a lot bigger...but they still want to share the post: Caught in the tub: Matching on the floor: Kiba makes the best faces: Sasuke is handsome and happy: Here's a video of Sasuke playing fetch in our old apartment...he doesn't do it so much now that he's older and Kyou steals the toys: Edit: I had embedded the videos, but youtube attaches annoying ads if I do it that way, so here's the link instead. Kyou is our new kitty, we adopted him as a freebie from a lady on Craigslist last July. We'd been watching for a kitten for a while (I wanted a manx) and the post was like "We have too many cats, come take this one." I looked at the pic and something clicked so we got him even though he does have a tail..and somehow all three of our kitties have kinked tails. He took to raw super easy and is an energetic boy. He's intense! (my sister took this and made it black and white) I love his colors, and he's soft like a bunny: Video of him playing fetch..I don't know how we ended up with two fetch playing cats ;D. I can't help baby-talking the animals though...it's a bad habit I need to break.

Beautiful tanks. I honestly wish I had the space and time for one. Your kitties are gorgeous! I wonder which parent gave the boys that remarkable white stripe down their noses?

Thank you! They are all sweet boys! Jackie, I can't get the ferrets to return anything either, Sasuke and Kyou are the only fetchers in this house . Sherry, I wish I knew more about their parents too, all the Humane Society told us is that they were fostered and bottle fed after the mother rejected them...I'd believe it, they have some serious mommy issues! Any furry pillow in the house gets kneaded and loved like a surrogate. The tanks aren't too time consuming, every 2-4 weeks I spend a little time on maintenance and a partial water change (maybe 15 minutes for the small tank, a few hours on the big one). I find it relaxing, it's like having an underwater garden year round, and it doubles as cat/ferret entertainment...I often find them on the bed watching the big tank .

Gorgeous tanks and very cute kitties. I find that the tanks are indeed great kitty entertainment, they also provide endless frustration to the fuzzes as they really can't stand to see that much water confined to a given space. Mad Max was the only fuzz who actually used to swim in the tanks (used to have a devil of a time keeping him out of the 50 gal with the oscars), but Fun-Go has figured out how to open the tops on the 2 10 gal and was caught working at emptying it (what a mess ). ciao

Having kept naturally planted fish tanks in the past, I have to say that yours is beautiful and incredibly well kept. I could never get quite enough light so my plants always ended up tall and stringy.
Your kitties are gorgeous.

This has made me want fish tanks (well, I wanted them anyway, for the cats, but now I know it will provide ferret entertainment too!). How did you choose the names for your cats? I LOVE their names, and they are beautiful kitties. Aren't raw-fed cats just the bomb? I have two black cats and their fur is just out of this world from it. ^_^ Those two sure look inseparable.

Halblingefrau - Thank you! All I use are a couple of cheap fluorescent strip lights from Home Depot, let the fish do the fertilizing, and chop 'em down when they get too big. Candice - My husband was in charge of the names, he studied Japanese in high school and still loves the culture. All of our fur pets have Japanese names and somehow ended up with a K or two in there as well . Sasuke is a traditional ninja family name (and is also the name of an awesome show that's known in the US as "Ninja Warrior") and he was very stealthy when we brought him home. Kiba means Fang, he was very outgoing and would attack anything as a kitten. Now that they're a little older they've switched personalities, so it's kind of silly that they have opposing names. Kyou means Today, we know all kittens live in the moment, but he's particularly impulsive and unpredictable. And the ferts are Mokkun (after an impish fiery demi-god in an anime), Akiko ("light and bright", she's little and super white), and Tadakichi (named after a Great Pyranese in another anime who owner always calls him "A man of character"....Tadakichi's big and white and full of character too). Raw fed cats really are the best! We switched our older cats at the same time as the ferrets (Sept '09) and Kyou as soon as we adopted him (July '10). They're so smooth, glossy, and bright-eyed, I love how they exude vitality. Rose - I'm not proud of it, but I've killed more than my share of fish too...it's a funny hobby. You can do everything right and nothing lives, but once the tank hits a certain balance (and I stop bringing home diseased pet store fish) it all clicks and it's the easiest thing. It's just getting there that's a hassle.

I am a terrible fish owner - I gave up for the sake of the fishies.
Awesome names! Very original.

I can't get over how awesome and cute your cats are!
You are so lucky that you got two fetching cats! Kyou's video made me laugh so hard because of the way he'd jump off the bed (off screen) to catch it, and you'd just here *plop* ;D ;D ;D
