I have been using Yesterdays News in the litter pans and while it works just fine... truthfully for what it is and how much you get for the cost it seems as pet owners they see us coming.
I read elsewhere and wanted to check with others here about using a different product. The company is Greene Team Platinum hardwood pellets for heating your house. There are no additives or chemicals or accelerates, it is not pine or cedar, it is hardwoods formed into pellets. There is no smell and they look the same as the paper pellets in Yesterdays news. When they break down it is the same sort of process, I mean paper is wood as well so I am wondering if this could be an alternative? If your ferrets don't eat their litter or mess with it would you use and trust it?

Sounds good, but will let others comment.

I had thought of using hard wood pellets. So long as there are no oils, doesn't contain tannins ( pine, red oak, cedar, mahogany, can contain tannin) and your ferret has no wood allergies I don't see a problem with it. I use yesterdays news too, and it's expensive. I heard wood pellets cause more tracking though. Also, some wood stove pellets will say, "not safe for animals" on the bag.

Actually almost all plants and trees have varying degrees of tannin some more than others (algae has the least) so I am fairly certain you would find traces of it in Yesterdays News as well. The bag said not safe for human or animal consumption but I'll go out on a 'limb' here and say that would be the case with all wood products LOL

I knew some wood had tannins but not all. I'm pretty sure that would be the case. I'm happy Merman isn't a litter eating ferret, because oh boy would that be a pain.
