I'm not really sure if I am posting in the right place here, but here goes....
I have a ferret who is recovering from surgery to repair a dislocated elbow, it's important that once he finally gets his wrap off and can again use his leg that his chances of falling are slim to none. I've got the room he has access to ferret proofed...but his cage I am having trouble with. He is currently in our "sick" cage...a single ferret nation with no shells and boxes blocking half the cage. But when he can be reintroduced to his brothers and sister we have two triple unit ferret nations attached.
Now to my question lol, I need to find a way to keep him from falling off the short levels of his ferret nation. I'm not really creative...my only idea I can come up with is to make a sort of wall of the short level and also to somehow cover the ramps..but with what??...or does anyone else have any other ideas?
Thanks in advance...

U talking about shelves? I have taken them completely out of my cages. People have used shower hooks like chains to hang sleepers at different levels

I don't know that taking them out of the cages completely would be an option for us...we have triple units and without the shelves They wouldn't be able to acesss the upper levels. Do you have something else in your cage to make it possible to get from one level to the next?

you can use plastic flexible drain tubing that you can get at lowe's/homedepot. It's black and 4 or 5 inches in diameter. They might plastic sheet that you could cut to 4-5 inches high and zip tie to the shelf. Yould have to make it go around a corner for support. If not you could try a craft store.

for the ramps try to zip tie tubing to the ramps. I have also used these to help with their landing when jumping down off the shelf. It also have a hidey underneath. I had to use a shower hook to attach it to the uderside of the shelf since they kept pushing it around the cage

Now I've just got to find a way to rig up some plastic or something to the shelves..

You could also hang hammocks just below the shelves, on the other side from the ramps. You would just move the hooks farther apart so it isn't quite as deep.
