Hiya, (wow it's been a while since I've posted here!) Y boys are on a franken prey diet at the moment and all is well except I hate how their poos are sometimes jelly like and then other times fine, so I thought I might switch to whole prey since the fur makes their poops better (?) either way I think whole prey would be easier than defrosting different types of meats and bone etc since I'm now in college, I can get hold of adult mice, rats and possibly rabbits, my boys are eating 200g each per day, could someone plan a menu for me please? I also heard the odd nice beef meal every now and then and extra organs and heart sometimes to add a red meat, and make sure they both get enough organs. They get one meal a day, if someone could make me a mon-Sunday meal menu if that would be ok? Just need a motivation and confidence boost with this transition to be shown its not as scary as it seems ahaha

It would be better for you to create what you thought would be a good menu and then we will see what you know. One of the biggest difficulties is not knowing how to create a menu, allowing someone else to create a menu for you means you never get to understand just how your little ones should eat. It also assumes that we know what you're feeding and what you're substituting. A prey menu is really easy as it's naturally balanced. Give it a try ciao

Will let Heather and others comment on your meal planning other than if I serve quail, i just do that all day . Like if I serve guinea pig,I serve that all day. It is a lot easier. Because mine r not great mice eaters yet, I will serve mice for breakfast then rat for supper. If they would eat mice real well, that is what they would get for the day:)
Have you thought about ordering a small bulk of frozen duck hearts from somewhere? (shipping:// )
I order online to get hearts. Bay duck brand is pretty popular here in the states. You might find a brand selling in your stores then google and see if you can get some hearts. From Pekin Paradise, I can get bulk gizzard, hearts and tongues and frames, and of course whole duck.

What is the strength of your taurine powder? This will help with dosages. You've got the minimum required proteins. Are your quail adults or juveniles? ciao

In 1993, about 5,000–6,000 tons of taurine were produced for commercial purposes; 50% for pet food manufacture and 50% in pharmaceutical applications.[20] As of 2010, China alone has more than 40 manufacturers of taurine. Most of these enterprises employ the ethanolamine method to produce a total annual production of about 3,000 tons.[21] Wikipedia
This is what I do not like about taurine powder
I do not trust China's food.

Beef tongue helps a lot with taurine, since it is very high in it. For the powder, use 500mg capsules, one per ferret per day.

Sherry's got your answer. 1 500mg capsule per ferret per day. I don't use it so it's not information that I'm quick with but I knew that others had this one covered. Your menu....if the quail is adult, it's fine, if they're chicks and the chickens you're using are juveniles then you may want to change the one meal of quail and chicken to something more mature ciao

Is that for 2 ferrets? Do they eat all the 200g per day or is there left over, mine eat about half that ...
I'm worried mine are being underfed now ...

It seems a bit steep in amount for the rabbit ....1 kg rabbit will feed all my guys and I have 12. The rest is reasonable as 200 grams = 7 oz approx. That would be the amount that would be fed to 2 males in one day. The one thing to consider...is the 2 kg rabbit dressed. That's a lot dressed but not so much if it's weighed with it's jacket and it's insides in. There's a good amount of weight involved in the coat and the guts, neither which a ferret will eat. ciao

I'd assumed it was the same 1kg rabbit spread over two days?
