Is there any chance of getting an option for "None/Other" option for the profile sex selection? Or just an option to leave blank?
That way the community can be inclusive of transgender/intersex people?

While I am not administration, Everyone is welcome. If you r female and want to sign on as male or vice versa I don't think anyone gives a hoot.

Truthfully, I have no idea how the "background" mechanics of this page work, so I am tagging bitbyter, Sherry and @poncesmom in the hopes that one of them will have a better idea! I'm definitely hoping there is a way, but while our community itself is extremely diverse and welcoming, the technology used may be behind the times. Truthfully, I never even considered the gender thing or even remember checking it off when making my profile --> cis privilege.

I remember when I created my profile I didn't bother to set that for a while and it did not display a gender identifier below my user name. Perhaps an admin can erase that information from the user profile to set it back to an undefined state.

That thread linked to this, which states "After joining the forum you can create a custom field on the forum to display any gender you wish, or none at all." But I don't see that option.

I went looking on my own profile settings and definitely didn't see a way to change it to anything custom, although I did find this. It obviously doesn't change the fact that you know one gender or the other is selected, but at least it prevents you from being publicly displayed within the binary. I also noticed "ProBoards I do believe will change this in a future update to the forums, for the time being a new member can choose either one. Once registered that can edit their profile for it not to show. The admin of the forum can go to Admin Home > Members > Custom Profile Fields, and add any Custom fields you want that will look like this and gender they choose will show in their members profile and mini profile." bitbyter - can you look into that since you have magical admin powers?

Ah, how did I miss that! Thank you, that makes me feel much better! I don't need anything to be displayed, this works just fine for me.

The thing is that by creating a custom field there would be two sections to select gender. I think for now we should wait until Proboards fixes it.

As a non-binary person, it always hurts a lot when I have to choose between 'male' or 'female' and I really can't wait until offering more options becomes the norm on social media. There are a couple sites I'm on that offer 'other' fields, but it just sucks when the binary is forced down my throat; being forced into the binary hurt me a lot as a kid and it looks like it's going to continue to haunt me well into adulthood.
*Not much of a point to this post but I wanted to share because it's nice to see other non-binaries.

I always just assume a person would check whichever they identify as, but it never occurred to me that one may not identify with either. It really has to feel bad to always be forced to choose one or the other, in most situations. I just wanted to say its so nice to see this discussion come up, and with no judgement. My mother is gay and transgender and it led to a lot of bullying when I was a child; although I never understood why. My nephew is currently going through some gender identity issues, and has been accepted quite well by friends and family. Society is coming along
