I know. Unfortunately I don't have any good private breeders near me. I love my marshalls boy though. Even though he is kind of a monster lately and is not living up to their "sweet" and "docile" rep. I guess when Sonny was standing in line for the sweet/docile stuff they ran out or something...

here is the article i was talking about. this vet dr. gandolfi and dr. wagner from univ of pitt) have been using des for 5 years to prevent adrenal. i actually emailed gandolfi today because i want to make sure that reimplanting once per year is enough. www.cvcah.com/event.asp

i emailed dr. gandolfi earlier. he responded very quickly. he told me that every young ferret that he has implanted (and continued to implant each year) has not developed adrenal disease. he started using the deslorelin five (5) years ago. this is why he continues to recommend that ferret owners implant their young ferrets to prevent AD. he told me that implanting in january with the 4.7 mg is good to prevent AD in any ferret living in the northern hemisphere.

That's very promising...I've been seriously thinking about getting Des for MoJo--possibly Memphis (he's older, poss. 2yrs). I'm going to take MoJo in to the vet and talk it over with them.

I'll just be glad when I can convince my vet to get the des. in for treating adrenal, let alone as a preventative!

It's back-ordered, correct? I thought I saw a thread floating around about it. MoJo is 6mo...when is it supposed to be available again?

Did your vet make you pay upfront for the implants? I'm thinking of getting 3 but would like to have my vet order more to have on hand.

MoJo will be 8mo in July...I think Miami said her vet recommended she wait past the 5-6mo point?? I'm probably totally wrong But could swear that's what I saw somewhere on here. Anyways--would 8mo be too late to make a difference?

Tay, Dr. Murray (jerry) told me to do if as early as possible and not to wait. I asked him when Sonny was about 3 months old. My vet (the one that ordered the des for me) did not want to do it right away. He wanted to wait until Jan 2011 when Sonny was 5 months old.
