Woot! That's awesome to hear! I know the feeling, it really is great to feel successful after trying so hard. And you more than deserve that feeling @tinachristina, you have worked very hard and done an absolute wonderful job in caring for him. He wouldn't be as stable and happy as he is now if it wasn't for you, and I know Mako loves you more than you could understand for that.

Thank you everyone, it's been quite the struggle to get here. Couldn't be happier than I already am with his progress. He's doing very well, checked his glucose again tonight before I fed him to see how it was and it's at 88. I'll be checking once a week now, or if he's not feeling well. Getting low on his meds, so I'm calling the vet the rescue uses to refill his enalapril and diazoxide. I'm also going to ask if she wants to see him and check his heart to see if the heart meds need dosage changes. Sherry Desiree unclejoe @poncesmom @julesalot

Ok, I called the vet and Mako is going in Tuesday for a check up and another ultrasound on his heart to see if his meds need changing. She's rechecking his glucose and I'll calibrate my meter then. I'm picking up his medication while I'm there. Paws crossed everything goes well! Sherry Desiree @julesalot unclejoe FireAngel @poncesmom

Alright everyone, Mako's vet visit was today. Here's what I posted on the rescue's page after I left, it's word for word from there. I apologize if it sounds odd reading. "Now for Mako. Dr. D listened to his heart and said it sounded really good. His meds for his heart don't need to be changed, they stay at the same dose. Also, since his heart sounded good and he was very active, she said an ultrasound wasn't needed. I told her about his stools and they did a stool sample, which came back negative. So, she wants Mako BACK ON carrafate and to keep doing the probiotics daily. How long do I give the carrafate before giving his food and meds again? Just want to double check, because the carrafate can't be mixed with any other meds. They also put a dose of revolution on him because he had some fleas. I took Mako's glucose while we were there and then Dr. D tried numerous times afterwards to get Mako's with her meter and he was NOT HAVING IT. He peed, squirmed, everything, even with Susan's picklejuice! I got his diazoxide and enalapril refilled and in different bottles that won't spill (only had that issue with the Enalapril). Dr. D said I can have the meds compounded at diamondback and then sent to me. Other than that, she said keep doing what I'm doing, because he's stabilized and doing well. ❤" @poncesmom Sherry Desiree unclejoe FireAngel @julesalot

Carafate is a wonderful product. It needs to be give at least a half hour before food and other meds.
Sounds like Mako is doing very well! (dance)

I'm so glad to hear he is making progress and did well at the vet office. Hooray for a good Heart reading and a clear fecal sample Heather has mentioned that it is easier to take blood from the tail then the footsies. I know that taking blood from humans (like my Paul) can be easier if they drink water first. I wonder if that helps with ferrets? And what is Susan's picklejuice? (giggle) The pictures are just too cute. Mako is such a Love!

Awww I love the pics of the ride. If he was at 88 last visit, I wouldn't worry much. Its hard to get a really low BG up to normal. Am I the only one thinking the word Foster may no longer apply?

I do blood from the toe pad since I have never had luck with the tail for some reason. I pump the toe pad for a minute or so until it is bright reddish purple, THEN prick it after laying on a slick of vaseline(before pumping) So, slick of vas. Pump the toe pad. THEN prick it.

This was taken directly from the rescue page where I posted, but I'm sharing the good news here too! Sherry@desireem81 @julesalot unclejoe FireAngel @poncesmom Sherry Alright everyone, I know you've been following how Mako has been doing since I started fostering. Well, I've got tons of good news about my little guy. ❤ As of today, his weight is up to 2lbs 1oz, I'm so proud of him!!!! He's finally back to 2lbs after going through SO much. He got plenty of kisses after being weighed. ❤❤❤ His glucose levels have been in between 100-129, so I spoke with Millie a couple days ago and she said we could back off the pred a little (happy dance!). That is fantastic for two reasons, it's the med that raises blood pressure and his glucose is doing better, so that much isn't needed right now. Current glucose levels were at 98 as of noon-ish today. Since we have Mako stabilized again, his appetite has come back. He's eating up 80-90ccs of soup in a sitting, that's my hungry boy! And since he's doing so well, I'm getting him back on kibble (Wysong Digestive Support), because he sure does miss it. Still had a bit of kibbles left over that Toyi brought with him at first and he was chowing down. ❤ He's still got stool problems, but before going to metronidazole to solve it, Millie suggested a different acid reducer and if that's the cause of his loose stools, then we'll finally know and it'll be fixed. Couldn't believe his weight gain and I'm so happy to share it with you guys! I sure do love this little one. ❤ ❤ ❤
