Over the weekend I went to Home Depot and bought the following:
enormous Tupperware container bag of play sand 15 feet of dyer hosing
Best $20 I ever spent!! I made a huge dig box. The ferts were freaking out in it! I took a video of it because it's so so funny - I'll post it soon. Cricket likes doing the "snowplow" and pushing across the whole thing with her nose under the sand. Even Marlee was dancing around in her semi-awkward way.
The hose is also a big hit -- as a bonus, it makes that irresistable crinkly sound. I watched the baby back out of the entire thing in reverse from one end to the other when he ran into Cricket inside.
So much fun!

Was that a plastic or aluminum dryer hose?

Was that a plastic or aluminum dryer hose? I actually got both, and they definitely liked the aluminum one better -- sparkly and crinkly. The plastic one works fine for them, but doesn't make them all spunky like the other. I'm thinking about creating a tunnel system for them by mounting tubing around the room. I have this little room I use for my crafting and writing and it's just me and the ferrets in there, so I could turn it into a ferret dream Playland.

haha thats so cute , i made a box of them plastic balls with a hole in the lid , and they dont even play in it Maybe try some different material in the box? I've heard folks on this forum recommend trying dry rice (not instant rice). Or maybe dry beans? Or paper? I tried paper balls first and they couldn't care less. They of course love the tupperware filled with towels that I used for bedding - especially when it's fresh out of the laundry. Marlee digs at blankets and rugs a lot so I thought she'd enjoy the dig box with dirt, and boy did she! It was like watching a car on a jack with spinning wheels finally be set on the ground! VROOOM!

Isn't it great that something so simple holds such an attraction for them When that starts to pall, you can just pack it all up, and put something else in it's place ;D
