In order to fill the cage with matching bedding, I started sewing again. That's what I've made so far... A fluffy pet bed. Just a little bit to small for the two... My fault. I will sew it again in XXL... A soft mat for a level. I have the think about the fastening. Dexter try to pull everything soft and nice down to the main levels... Made with double lining. A large hammock, one side jersey, other side soft fleece. Made with a bit of lining to provide extra comfort. Now, Sewday is ending... We will see, what the next day will bring...

How did you make the circular bed? What is keeping it up on the sides?

abbeytheferret6It's super easy. I hope you can understand it... I don't have the terminology of sewing in my mind... I cut out 2 pieces of fabric in a circle. Put them together with needles, so the fabric stay in place. I sew one line around the circle, than add another line 2 cm away from the other. It's important to left a gab to turn the fabric. I pull a string through the "tunnel". Now turn. Add a stuffing you like. Pull the strings together, make a tight knot. Sew the open gap by hand. The key is not to put too much stuffing in it so the ferret can curl up in it. It's holding the shape only from the pulled string, the rest is loose.

Had "nothing" to do and sew a bit while watching TV... Just a simple hanging bed. I hate sewing things like that... The last few millimetres of the brim is so fiddly...

Adorable, I have done a bit but I really have no patience for sewing. Wish I did though since I have about $100 worth of fabric waiting to be put to use!

I really have to force myself to start sewing again and to finish my project. I love sewing, but I'm also lazy and can't deal with mistakes... But seeing the boys enjoying my work makes it worth it :-)

Oooh, those poofy beds looks awesome. I definitely will try to sew one when my sewing space is back up and running again. I love to sew for my ferrets and have an unfinished watermelon-bed waiting for me to figure out how I can sew it right. I already been sewing it wrong twice so ..it's been collecting dust for a while. The downside of sewing without patterns... it's bound to go wrong.

Oh yeah, story of my (sewing) life. I dislike working after a pattern, most of my work is done free handed. So it’s a bit trial and error… And errors frustrating me a lot. Not the best way, but my way ;-)
I have a running project (since a year or two), fabric (worth around 100$) is already cut out. Now I would have to work after a pattern, but can´t motivate myself to begin pinning and sewing. Maybe I´ll finish it after retirement…
But I will sew another fluffy bed for the boys soon. It will be a lot(!) bigger and I will change the stuffing a bit to these micro-balls. These would make the bed even more fluffier and will adapt a lot more to the ferret lying in it.

Yep, I use it mainly for my falconry equipment, but it comes in handy, when I sew for the ferrets. It´s a lot more durable.

I don't mind working after a pattern, but the stuff I want to sew mostly don't have patterns.. Like these, I did a coffe cup, a hotdog, a fried egg and a strawberry without patterns. My boyfriend did the cheese =D I also tried to sew a cupcake, and it's kind of done, but I never put it together and took a picture of it. And now the ferrets have ruined it =D The micro balls sounds like a great idea for stuffing for that kind of bed =D I wonder if it's available in sweden. I mostly buy the cheapest pillows from Ikea and use for stuffing. They cost around 1 euro. I also do most stuff by trial and error too, and I get so bummed when it's "error" that I usually stop, atleast for a couple of days until I realize I really want the stuff finished. But when I really sew myself into a corner, like with the watermelon and I cant figure out to proceed, it will be laying around for quite a while. UGH, I have a nice pile of UFO's I should be sewing on.
