Gizmos was eating the Marshall's Diet. Yesterday he had Raw Soupie, and Chicken Thigh and chicken liver mince /x2 with a bit of egg shells and Marshall's as a seasoning. LOL he also had marshals through out the early morning. since he loves his marshalls, i took some and thru it through the coffee grinder so that it would be dust.
I didn't want to leave raw meat in over night so he got less then a 1/4 cup of Marshall's over night. ( ate it all )
This morning for Breakfast:
he was scrambled Sou-pie eggs, ( 1 egg, and soupie) , seaoned with eggs shells and a dash of Marshalls). he did want anything to do with it -- offered 1 cc via syringe. -- he had a good part of it on his own afterwards. Im also leaving chicken thighs and gizzards minced in today with the rest of the soupie placed on top. ( will remove after about 4 hrs)

** improvement notes--
my sou pie isn't smooth need to re-blend. worried about how much he is actually eating versus playing with. planning on making a ground chicken thing in the food processor, seems to be to big of pieces for him

Hi, Gizmo is 12 weeks old right? So you have a tummy with teeth who should eat pretty much anything you put in front of him. You could pretty much skip the soup stage with him but it is nice to have them used to soup just in case he should ever get sick and you have to syringe feed him. Small chunks should be easily accepted by him but may need a little coaxing/coddling from you to get him started. You can take the kibble away completely when he is eating the raw on his own. Do you have a scale? You should be weighing what he eats every time you give him food and he should be weighed weekly.

he is eating raw on his own but he isnt eating enough in my opinion. Am i doing a dis-justice to him keeping the marshal's around?

Yup, they will hold out and wait for what they want. So if you keep the kibble for him. He will fill up on that and not eat the good stuff. Weighing how much he eats is very helpful also because while not every ferret eats the same amount there is a range to go from but if he is still eating kibble he will be full from the fillers and not eat much of the raw.

Definitely ditch the kibble at his age I also leave raw in for up to 24 hours It will be fine.

he is eating a full bowl of chunky chicken and livers ( chicken thighs, livers, marshalls seasoning, ground egg shells, squash baby food) offered first bowl with bone last night. -- after about 3 hrs of him not touching it-- exposed the bone and he chomped on it for quite awhile.-- and hissed at the dog thru the cage for trying to lick it lol.
**couple questions regarding "Squash, pumpkin, baby food" ? with it being fall is it okay to keep this to help out with the shedding and what not? ** Broths? he likes the water, broth or what not in the bowl-- can i make him some bone broth to mix with his food? can i use the store bought broths from purina?
Im making more food tonight--Plans are to keep everything fairly chunky, using gizzards to help with the jaws. i will be add egg shells and stuff.

Squash/pumpkin is only for blockage protocol. One egg per ferret a week during non shedding season and 2 a week during helps breakdown and pass fur. Please stop the squash. I would also stop with the baby food as a daily thing, it has it's uses for a sick ferret but not during regular feedings.** Broths? he likes the water, broth or what not in the bowl-- can i make him some bone broth to mix with his food? can i use the store bought broths from purina? I am not familiar with the broth, is it just plain broth, no added flavors, preservatives and salt? You can certainly make your own bone broth, it does take a bit of time to make it but it is pretty simple (for the ferrets), just bones and water and boil and then simmer for days.

Don't give squash/pumpkin unless there is a suspected blockage. You can give Gizmo one whole egg per week (2/week while he's shedding) - the lecithin in egg yolk helps prevent hairballs. Do NOT feed the Purina Fancy Feast broths - they are full of crap and probably at least as bad as Marshall kibble, if not worse. You can make a broth by diluting raw soupies, or use the extra meat "blood"/juices leftover from meat in a container. Truthfully though, he doesn't really need anything like that mixed with his food. You can give him a little lick of salmon oil every now and again if you want to reward gim I would dump the "Marshall seasoning" entirely. He's a kit which means he will eat anything and everything he can fit in his mouth. Keeping it around just feeds his addiction and isn't good for him anyway. That's great to hear about how much he liked the bone though! Make sure you are feeding him a balanced diet though. In addition to what you've listed above, he also needs heart! Liver also shouldn't be more than 10% of his weekly diet. Have you seen our Frankenprey Menu? This will give you a good guide of the diet he should eventually be on

Gizmo sounds like he is off to a great start. Just a small note and you may know this already. Don't put gizzards in a blender. They will destroy it. Simply slice them into long slivers. I always put a little warm water onto the plates. It releases the smell and makes a nice gravy from the meat juices. Gizmo may enjoy that. Raw is fine left in his cage overnight. Soupie holds up for up to 8 hours. If that makes you nervous, leave a chicken wing with him. Cut off the wing tip section and slice it once lengthwise and twice across it. No need to sever it, just cut it to help him along. Bone in is fine for 24 hours. If he moves along fast, you want his diet balanced. He will need those nutrients as a growing boy. Necks may be a little tough, so smashing will help. Look for smaller bone in meals like quail or Cornish game hens. Heart is for Taurine. That is essential for them. You also want him to have his two organ meals. Calcium is essential for a growing ferret. If he is slow to eat his bone and he probably won't be, then consider buying some Now Brand Bone meal powder and dusting his meals with this. I've recently spoken to some breeders and they continue with extra calcium until their ferrets are 18 months old. Could we please have some pictures of little Gizmo. We can never have enough baby pictures.

He is such a handsome boy. I'll be curious to see what his winter coat looks like.
I meant to add that the wing tip is easiest for him, but you can also leave the other pieces for him to gnaw on.

He has been doing great, eating a bowl or two a day of chunky chicken and turkey. (Egg shells included) doesn't seem to be eating today. He had his last meal yesterday after noon. Seems to be eating-- ferretvite, and treats but doesn't seem to want his food.

Ferrevite is full of sugar and just as bad for him as kibble. I would ditch it as soon as I could. What kind of treats is he eating? Ferrets are like toddlers they will eat all the treats and then it their dinner.
