I'm getting an established business of 5 ferrets ranging in ages of 1-3 yrs of age. All healthy and kibble fed. 3 jills and 2 hobs - all neutered. My aim is to switch them to a raw diet like my Scottish Clan of ferrets are (Haggis, Neeps, Tatties, Brodick & Corrie). My Scots Clan eat anything I give them and I hope with time my new ferrets will become the same. I get my new ferrets on Tuesday. I will Weigh them and introduce them to you all then.
This will be a self swith thread. I already switched Haggis & Neeps as kits and was lucky I got the other three as raw fed kits. I've been feeding raw frankenprey with some whole prey for over a year now so feel I have a pretty good grasp on how it works. I'm wanting to record this switch to chart my new fuzzles progress and to see how they take to raw. They've all had kibble for most of their lives but do like raw eggs and have had a little chicken in the past. I'm going to start with some commercial grinds that are finely ground and have 10% bone in already. I'll mix these with some water to make a soupy goo and see if they take to it - I can also add a bit of egg to encouragee them to eat it. If they seem to take to this I aim to build them up to bone in and organs quickly as they are still pretty young so hopefully will switch relatively easily.
So role on Tues when I get myself 5 new fuzzles to take on a raw journey

You did a lovely job switching Haggis, Neeps and Tatties. You will do great with your new five.
Of course, we will be expecting you to share some pictures of the new Fabulous Five. Do you have names yet? The first thing I thought of was that they seem to be perfect for a Michael Jackson/Jackson Five theme, lol

The new fuzzles settled in well and pooped every where - forgotten how poopy kibble fed ferrets are. The jills Dotty & Pepper and hob Willow had a sniff and lick of some chicken pieces. Pepper and Willow then ate some, just a mouthful but great start . I have a feeling they may have had chicken before in a past life. I'm defrosting some chicken mince to try them with later on today.

They had some finely minced chicken (10% bone too) in warm water and splash of oil. They had a taste and over night ate it all between them. They still had kibble available if they wanted too. I also had to give Bandit a chicken thigh as he was trying to steal the carcass from my raw guys hutch through the cage bars lol. I can't find it this morning so either they stashed it really well or a ferret or two ate it overnight. So they seem to like chicken. its a start. This morning I gave them 150g of chicken mince mixed with 2 whisked eggs. The were nibbling the mince and lapping up the egg too. They love eggies

They ate all the egg & chicken mix. Tonight they have minced chicken with lamb. The new ferrets are now fully introduced to my raw crew so putting out enough food for them all. Found Dotty chewing on a chicken thigh bone that that been stripped of meat. They still have kibble down but seem to be loving the raw

Well they did quite well with the chicken and lamb mince. Today the raw crew had chicken thighs and drummers, the mince was still out as was some kibble for the new ferrets. 3 of the new ferrets were tucking happily into chicken thighs on the bone. They seemed to be able to handle the skin and meat well. So , Bandit, Dotty and Salt seem to like raw chicken pieces. I've already seen Willow & Pepper eat some chicken - so raw conversion might not take too long
