So today I recieved a call of someone who found a guinea pig in a box left next to a dumpster, I have an ad up in a spanish site that states that I take care of abandoned exotic animals. I usually refuse now and tell them to take them to a friend of mine or something because I'm having economic problems lately, but they then said that the guinea pig had MANGE. So I drove to this dumpster, and I've never seen a Guinea pig with such a severe case of mange in my life. So I called a local vet (not specialized in exotics, because mine is in the US and the other is super expensive) and they did know how to treat it. So since I had to go to work, I left the guinea pig there and I'll pick him up later, and I'm hoping I have enough to pay for the treatment and I'll have to go every monday to get his injections done to help cure his condition. I can't imagine in what conditions the poor thing must have been to get so covered in mange and nobody do anything about it... And I sent pictures of the guinea pig at the vet's and he said that when the guinea pig is cured he would love to adopt him. I got so mad, why couldn't he just pay for the treatment? I feel so used right now x.x

Oh my god. The poor little critter ;n; I cannot believe there are such people who would just abandon a sick animal... they could have at least surrendered it to a rescue centre. It makes me so sad to see cases like this. He's been so neglected... and even thinking of what kind of place he came from makes me shudder.. it must have been very awful... ;n; Its so great that you're going to help him. I hope he gets better and finds a home that will love him and care for him. Good and positive karma will sure to reward you greatly for doing such a kind hearted thing by helping this innocent little guy. ;u;

Thank you The poor baby isn't even a year old and he's already a mess :C people can be so cruel... the worst part is that the only "rescue center" we have in the island keeps animals in a similar state to this and leaves them die of anything they have. A friend of mine suggested me to make a fundraiser or something so people can donate for me to help out more animals and afford treatments I might think about doing something like that, but I don't think I'd get enough money to pay for some of the serious procedures many pets need :c In the end this guy only cost me 80€ for the first visit, could have been worse. But I now have to take him in once a week to get treatment for the mange...

How in the world can a Guinea pig get mange? How dirty were the people who owned it? Considering that they had no problem discarding it by a dumpster that speaks volumes of their character.
It's good that you have taken it to the vet to get treated, but don't let your compassion overburden you. You have lots of furry friends to care for right now and if you take in too many that'll impact them as well.

I'm so glad that you rescued him. Poor little fellow.
I believe Mange can be contagious to other animals. You probably want to keep him away from any other animals, but the vet will know best.

Mange are mites and can spread easily from one animal to the next, even get on you and then spread when you interact with your other animals. Minimize contact with the Guinea pig, wear short sleeves and wash your hands and arms after feeding/cleaning the container it's in.

Poor baby! I have a suspicion that the guy that wants to adopt it would only take care of it as far as feeding and watering goes.

Oh yes! you should create a fundraiser! Thats a very smart thing to do. I see alot of animal rescue's use gofundme for donations. www.gofundme.com/There are alot of kind hearted people who wuld be more than happy to help fund someone who is getting help for animals who need it. I still cannot believe that he's so young and is suffering so badly... He's in good hands now! It's really sad how your island's rescue centre operates in such a way... It really disturbs me as to why they would do rescue jobs only to waste away lives. We have a major rescue/animal shelter centre in Australia and it has a high kill rate. They lie to the public and say they are all about helping and rehoming all animals regardless of them being an exotic but really If the animal costs too much to be treated, they simply euthanise it without even a second glance or though if it has a chance for a new life. The sad part is, Its even worse with exotic animals like ferrets. Thats why the Ballarat Ferret rescue states to return them back to the rescue rather than give them to that nasty shelter that would end up murdering even a healthy exotic animal. Those kinds of things disgust me. Is it really cheaper to just murder them then actually put the love into helping animals and finding them their forever homes? ;A; What has happened to the world... I feel so sad that there are people who are donating, funding such places... when they could really be putting their funds into real rescues that actually help and rehabilitate animals and are not about looking at animals for profit. Anyway, I wish the best for the little G.piggie. I hope he gets better fast and once healthy finds a nice and loving home that won't ever let such a thing happen to him. ;u; Look into that donation thing also, I'm sure it will help you big time. ^u^

I think people do not know the real story behind such places, and who has the nerve and care to blow the whistle?

The guinea pig has sarcoptic mange, its pretty bad. I have him in a seperate room with proper ventilation in my other house where I only bring Sherlock with me occasionally on the weekends and he stays in my bedroom anyways. So the Mange will not transfer to any animal. I have all the proper cleaning products for the guinea pig, used in clinics and I also got him 100% aloe vera gel to put on his skin a soothe him a bit. He is suffering so much [img src="http://i1105.photobucket.com/albums/h352/JW_2012/Emoticons/T_T.png" style="max-width:100%;" src="http://i1105.photobucket.com/albums/h352/JW_2012/Emoticons/ .png"] it breaks my heart to see him like this. @machan That is exactly what is going on here!! They kill everything that needs over 100€ treatments to get better. So many people are against it and are recording evidence to shut the place down or change the way they run it. Its sad, but thats the only center animals have. So I do my best to save what I can before they end up there. I'll go check out the Gofundme site thank you so much! This would really help the animals I'm caring for ^-^ EDIT: I got a donation page now we'll see how that goes... if you guys can share it with your contacts who might be interested in helping out, that would be great! ^-^ gogetfunding.com/exotic-animals-in-need/I found that GoFundMe uses stripe to retrieve money, and I prefer using my paypal. I am not familiar with Stripe, so I want to stick to paypal in this case ^^

abbeytheferret6 Thats a valid point. It's still quite sad that there are alot of people who are completely unaware. @closetcreep Sarcoptic mange. Oh my god. It sounds great that your doing all you can for the little guy. I'm sure if you hadn't have helped him, his future would have been grim. ;n; I hope he feels better soon. I feel so itchy just thinking about it... He must be going crazy ;n; Even if the place doesn't get shut down, I honestly hope they have the heart to change their ways. I love that you're helping animals ;u; I will definitely help with a donation next week. I hope you get alot of helpful donations to go towards helping those animals in need. ^u^
