The males can be kind of loud. They can also be kept outside but will not lay all year long. I have to keep my quail on a artificial light schedule to make sure they keep laying year round.

They have not started laying yet. They are just over six weeks old so any day now. I gave them some crushed eggshell to provide more calcium. bitbyter yep I keep my quail inside to ensure they lay for me all year. A well kept rooster (meaning enough booty to satisfy him) is a quiet animal. My two lone males are paired outside in a small cage till I am able to hatch some girlies for them. They tend to make more of a ruckus.

First quail egg. We have two now. Fauna is super huge now! The earliest that she is due is today so we will see if she gives birth tonight. Sorry about it being blurry. This is Monstro being a good ASF daddy and keeping his children warm. We have hold backs in this litter it looks like. A almost all tan girl, a few girls who are almost all white with black eyes and a darker colored boy so my next colony.

Talk about the difference of an adult female giving birth and being raised in the correct environment. These are Fauna's 11 babies. They look so healthy and big already and they are only four days old. She is a wonderful mom and very attentive but doesn't seem to bothered when I go to handle them. We have some interesting colors here too for a PEW male and beige hooded female. Merryweather, Ratigan and one of their sons went to my moms house to be spoiled pets. Merryweather will be joined by another female when my litters get big enough. The boy that went with his dad was our little runt with the deformed face, he cannot wear down a tooth on his bottom jaw by himself and since my mom works with rats and mice at her job she will be able to help him out as well. Also, the two girls from her second litter were adopted by one of her coworkers and are also going to spoiled pets. My mom is apparently bragging about the rats and another coworker wants a male. LOL! I'm making money already and I've barely started. Got my adapter in today for the CO2 tank so we are going to give the chamber a go this evening. Which means ferrets get fresh rat tonight.

Cull day! I culled five of my male rats today. Small to medium in size. I used a co2 adpater they had at my local paintball store. It's designed to go from your tank to your gun. I actually had a bit of control as long as I was conscious of how far I twisted the cap. I think I need to seal my "chamber" better. I'm grabbing some weather stripping before I do it again. However, with all of that, it went very very well. They were slowly passing out, by one minute they were asleep, no heavy breathing, just laid down, I left them like that for about 30 seconds and up the air. I think they were gone by about 3 minutes but I'm not sure. Overall I felt like nobody panicked and I felt way better about culling this way. A passive approach seems much better. Rats! Video of Tundra and Arbor fighting over the freshly killed rat.

Merida, one of our mice, has babies. Looks like 5 but I'm trying not to mess with her for the first week or so. I can see them through the bottom of the tub though. She looks good when she comes out of her nest so that's good.
ASF's have another litter on the ground. 12 new pinks, I have weaned all but the last litter of ten. I will pull those when my last girl pops. So that's 16 new babes with another mom on the way, she's huge. Plus the 30 in the grow out tub and the ten soon to be weaners. I am loving the ASF's right now.
