We finally got our critters set up, well most of them. We had some hiccups along the way. First of all, while picking up some last minute supplies, the pet store we went to had a hairless mom rat with her week old babies and daddy in the cage. I asked about them, they weren't really keen on raising the babies and separating them into more cage, etc. So I bought them and headed home. Mom went into the maternity ward (our big long bins) while we put dad into a 10 gallon until I could get more cages made. At the point I only had three bins, one for the girls to go into and one for the boys to go into and a then a smaller one for the ASF's so the ten gallon became necessary pretty fast.
We then drove to Denver to get our ASF's and the rats. The rats, oh man, my girls are gorgeous, I think their coloring is called silver fawn, hooded. Beautiful girls, the bigger of the two is a little spastic while the smaller girl is sweet. One of the boys is a albino/PEW (still haven't figure out the genetics of that one) while the other one is a brown hooded.
The ASF's for the most part are great. They are soft! No bites yet, in fact, they don't seem bitey. The boy is a pretty blonde color while the girls range from brown to black, all pied. However, there is a small glitch. One of the girls has a small bump on her chin (looks like a tumor) and another girl has what might be an infected eye and a bump on her lower belly. I'm not sure what to think at the moment. Waiting for advice. I might cull them but then I don't know if I should feed them.
Then tonight, we added our mice. A pretty brown (agouti I think) boy. A black girl, an amber colored girl and a pretty chestnut colored girl. My sister likes these guys a lot. They are a little to jumpy for me. The rats don't try to jump out of my hands at least.
I am in the middle of making the bachelor pad and a bachelorette pad for the resting period between breedings. I then need to make a grow out bin for the ASF's and a grow out tub for the mice.
I need to wait a little bit to breed the rats and mice. One of the mice girls is a little on the small side and neither of the rat girls are up to a good weight yet.

Green lidded tub has hairless momma and her babies. Below her is the two girls and then on the floor is the ASF's. They were in a smaller tub but they seemed crowded. Top right is the girl mice and the bottom right is our lone male. (We are getting him a friend tomorrow.)
