I've increased the size as much as I can and they're still eating it. I don't want to make it any less than 2 or 3 pieces just in case Layla steals some while I'm sleeping. CGH is still cut up pretty small so that they don't leave the bones behind, chicken thigh is only being cut down the middle to expose and crush the bone.

Sounds good! Now that you're feeding bigger pieces, have you tried hooking the pieces to the side of the cage?

I've been looking whenever I go to a store, but I never see the shower hooks that were suggested. I might get a friend who's a blacksmith to maybe make me something that'll work as a birthday present, she's been bugging me about what I want, but I think she's meant a video game rather than something that requires shipping costs.

You don't have to use the shower hooks. When my last one broke and before I got new ones, I just bent a wire clothes hanger into a loop and used that.

I'll try to find one, I don't have any on hand unfortunately. Question! When I get rabbit or turkey, can I stop buying either pork or beef?

No. You want as many different proteins as possible to give them the most variety of nutrients. Right now you essentially only have 3 proteins...chicken, pork, and beef. That is the bare minimum. Ideally you will be able to get BOTH rabbit and turkey giving them 5 proteins. I know that's not what you wanted to hear, BUT once there is another protein (or 2) in the mix, they will need LESS of the others.

Alright, I just wanted to check. So would removing either chicken or CGH from the diet be alright after I add rabbit and turkey? It won't be right away or all the time, it'd just be easier to have a choice between two rather than both constantly.

CGH basically is just a young chicken. They have much smaller bones which is why we recommend starting with them. They also, because they were younger at time of butchering, do not have the same build up of hormones that regular chickens have, so sometimes CGH can be fed to a ferret with chicken sensitivities.
To answer your question directly, yes. You can feed either one and don't necessarily have to feed both. However, Marty and Layla HAVE to be able to eat the bones, so if they have trouble with the chicken bones, you may need to stick with the CGH.

Alright, gotcha. I'll probably just keep chicken around for soupie then, and keep the bones for if I can't find a bone in meal and add it to beef or pork. About a quarter of a thigh bone is enough for one meal, judging from the amount they eat at a time of a chicken thigh.

Any new bone-in proteins yet?

I bought duck and rabbit, but I'm still on vacation until tomorrow, so sadly I haven't been able to add it to the diet yet.

I'm home, I'll portion out the noms tomorrow night I think. I'm getting over a vacation cold so I don't want to do anything out of the ordinary tonight.

How are you feeling? Have you gotten the new foods cut up yet? I'm eager to see what they think of the new food.

I got the rabbit cut up, and gave them some shoulder meat to try. It was a HUGE hit. Layla was so frantic to take it from my fingers after a couple licks! Marty didn't even have any issue with munching away! They got chicken thigh for dinner, I only have two or three portions left so the timing is great! I'll get the duck portioned out tomorrow afternoon.
Its incredible how strong rabbit bones are. They're so thin but they took some real whacking to cut them up.
