I don't know anyone who can get me rabbits... There are a lot of wild ones, but I don't think I could kill them. I could find NO quail or turkey with bone in ANYWHERE, except for huge turkey legs. Its like when there aren't any winter holidays, all the turkeys fall off the face of the planet. His ears were just cleaned a few days ago, and I got a lot of brown, healthy looking ear wax out from deep in the ear. It was quite a bit, and I clean his ears every two weeks or so. Is this related to him being a Waardy, having huge wide ears that look clean on the outside, but actually have gobs of wax deep past the L bend?

If you dug deep in his ears, it could be compressed wax down in there that is bothering him. Try putting a drop of warm olive oil in his ears and massaging them to loosen any gunk that may still be there and then let Layla clean them for him. Tennessee turkeys fall off the planet too when the holidays are over. Once in a while I can find turkey wings in the store so I buy a LOT of them when they're there. Did you find any Asian or Hispanic markets anywhere in your vicinity? They usually have a good variety of different meats. You may be able to find something at one of those. CGH and chicken are all you have right now, correct?

I didn't dig in, I put olive oil in it and massaged for a few minutes, once I could see the goop I scooped it out with a q-tip and then more firmly with a cloth. All of the asian/hispanic places around here either sell the same things as meat sections in other stores or only sell the ingredients, no meat. CGH, Salmon and Chicken are all I have for bone-in meats, yes.

One of my housemates left the frozen soupie out of the freezer and it went bad. I had a lot prepared... what a great start to the night.

I'm sorry. I had a lousy day too, if that makes you feel any better. :/

Not really, but I'll be able to go to a butcher tomorrow. I'm going to pick up more heart, kidney and beef. Hopefully I'll find some quail.

Not really. I want to give up and just put them on a half diet. I didn't find turkey wings at the butcher, but found LOADS of fresh turkey breast. They increased the price of kidney and heart by a dollar. Found rabbit, but I can't afford 6 dollars a pound. Bought beef and CGH too. I spend 30 dollars today and didn't get anything I immediately needed. If Marty can't learn to like fish, I can't afford to switch anything around anymore. I'll try a different fish, but I can't do any more than that. I just cannot afford this wild chessgame of will-he-eat-it.

Giving up isn't the answer! Once we know what he will eat and get a menu set up, there won't be any more chess game. You'll have very little waste once you really get going. You really don't want them on a half diet, especially Marty. If he's on half-raw and half-kibble, he'll learn to hold out for the kibble meals and won't eat his raw. Make a menu for him using the proteins he will eat and let's see where we are.

Unless I can get a stock of just chicken bones or something (probably not possible), the menu that he's willing to eat is the same as the temporary one you gave me. I set a live mouse trap but I doubt I'll get anything...
If it were just Layla, or if Marty would eat the dang fish, the menu would be
Sun AM: O - half liver/half kidney Sun PM: B - CGH
Mon AM: B - Salmon with bone Mon PM: B - chicken with bone
Tues AM: H - beef heart Tues PM: B - CGH
Wed AM: M - pork Wed PM: B - Salmon with bone
Thur AM: H/O - 1/2 beef heart, 1/2 liver/kidney Thur PM: B - CGH
Fri AM: B - Salmon with bone Fri PM: B - chicken with bone
Sat AM: M - beef Sat PM: B - chicken with bone
3 meals each of Chicken, CGH, and Salmon, one meal each of beef and pork, 1.5 each of heart and liver/kidney.

Salmon is the ONLY thing he's just really NOT LIKED. He was hesitant with the beef, but it didn't take him too long to start eating that. He's done extremely well with all these new foods you've been giving him, especially for a senior!
Let me talk to the other mentors and see if our collective brains come up with something I'm missing on my own, other proteins that I may have forgotten about or other tricks to get Marty to eat the salmon.

Alright. I'm still mixing the salmon into things, should I only put it in the meals that I want Layla to eat it for?

No, keep putting some in Marty's and keep (gently) pushing him to eat it.

Went to the store, and the bait fish were way too expensive. 6 dollars a pack, and some weren't even a half pound. I did find lots of chicken hearts, and my brother's girlfriend (?) came with me and ended up buying them for me with food stamps, which was a nice surprise. Her roommate recently got a couple ferrets, so I'm hoping for a ferret play date soon! She said one of them has hind leg weakness, so I offered to judge his age and give them food suggestions (kibble options and raw, I'll be giving them the link to the forum).
