First cull will not be until Oct, because I bought the wrong sizes and after talking with bitbyter I have now ordered the correct ones but the one part won't be in until then. I will max out my grow out bins in the meantime and the beasties will be miceless a few weeks since I fed the last of my frozen ones this morning! (headwall)

Me too, and yup was to be my first and second litter of mice! I found a great deal today btw on Native earth rodent blocks, the 40lb bags are on sale for like $23 or something like that on petfood direct.com even with shipping it's still a good deal and they had a 20% off on top of that for new buyers.

Oh wow! That's nice. I'm still waiting on my reimbursement for my job so I need to wait for that to come in before I can order anything. I also should measure how big my bags are because I get Kent feed for the exact same price.
So a few of you may get a chuckle out of this, I can tell you the last few days have been pretty stressful so it almost brought me to tears actually, but I can laugh about it a bit this morning so I decided to share it with you. Last evening I got home from running to doc appts with my mom and found the piece that I thought wasn't coming until October came in already! I was so happy and since it was also bin cleaning day I figured what better time then now to do some culling, right? So I get everything together and test it. Hmmmm pressure gauge isn't moving and I don't hear anything. Try again, nope nothing. I take it apart and try again, nope still nothing So my son says I don't think the pin is reaching the release, so I take a pen to the release and I don't hear anything. I look at my 15 year old son and say, shouldn't I hear a release? He says yup. I say I think the tank is empty, he takes the tank from me, looks it over and brings it back over to me pointing at this small print on it that says "does not come prefilled" (headwall) So since I am working all weekend maybe next Monday I will do my first cull. *
do you guys "gut load" your prey before you prekill or feed live?
also when i was breeding rats for my ball pythons they recommended catfood over anything else cause of the protein that is available, plus adding in rat diet, bones, scraps. not sure this helps anyone but i had some nice fat rats and they were very healthy!!!

@jager I just feed regular lab blocks. I do supplement with treats, fruits, veggies, bones, and boiled eggs especially pregnant and nursing moms. I have some extra cat food as well that use as a treats but to much protein can cause kidney issues so I'm careful with to much protein.
Oh my! That is a nice batch . Tell us how your ferrets like them. They r almost too cute to u know what.
Girls I may need y'alls assistance in future. Better wait until I get back from vacation in Oct before I get some mice. Hubby would not appreciate having to feed ferrets and mice and clean pooh while I am gone.
Do u wear gloves when cleaning bin's ? I am not in much contact with mice feces with frozen rodents(other than gutting).
