Thanks bitbyter! As you saw I did finally think to post to the groups on FB, :heehee: I'm so used to this being my go to place! I'm pretty sure I have lost 2 of the older group with in the last day also, I had counted 11 and now there are the 9. I'll just have to wait and see.

The worst is when you catch them doing it. There is nothing you can do as you can't save the baby and the mother is just sitting there chowing down ignoring the screams. It's pretty insane.

Oh Lordy, I'm pretty sure I would never be the same if I actually witnessed it! I will take a quick peek at them after I get home from my mothers to see if I did any damage earlier.

Mine are in my office. I was working on something and I could hear these squeaks. I was thinking "something doesn't sound right..." and there is momma sitting on her rump chowing down on a baby with bloody shavings all around her. Calm as can be, like she was sitting on the couch eating potato chips or something. Like I said, nothing you can really do about it once it's started. Disturbing but unfortunately when breeding anything, it isn't always good times.

That definitely sounds like no fun! I did do a quick peek and could see babies but I didn't do a count (I didn't want to disturb them any more then that), so maybe it will be alright.

OMG---too much information! yikes
R both rats and mice notorious for this or just mice? Maybe give her a big glob of peanut butter after giving birth.

mice are more known for it but it can happen with any rodent species. I give mine boiled eggs the week before and the week after birth (estimated). They get a seed mix every week as well as their lab block. Diet isn't the issue. I've done everything you can do to lessen the chances of it happening but no one ever said mother nature was nice.

Today was bin cleaning (all) and sexing and separating day for my oldest 2 litters (i hope i did it right!). I ended up with 6 females and 9 males (I hope I did it right! lol). I kept one of the youngest females back in the tub because I love her color and want to bring that bin to 1.3 also. Here is a blurry picture that shows her color better, kind of silver and I think dusty will be here name. Here are 2 clearer pictures of Dusty but because of the lighting she actually appears more gold in these. I have had 5 litters born since 8/3/15 but one of them was eaten by the entire colony so I have changed a couple of things to see if it was my fault. I'm hoping it was honestly. It was the 3rd litter born in that bin 11 days with 5 days being between the last 2 births, the hidey I was using was a smallish one and the dog treats were only about 13% protein. I have gotten larger hideys and a higher protein dog food and hopefully all will be good in the future. These are the babies from my 8/20/15 and 8/26/15 litters. Did not lose any of them so there are 19 total there.

Going to try to finish my chamber tonight, my son has affectionately named it mouseauschwitz (I really hope that does not offend anyone but I find it funny not that it is a real place that horrible things happened in but the fact he was witty enough to put the name mouse infront of it and very appropriately name it) (giggle)
