Ted has days he fasts and then he has days he eats everything. I am not giving in to his whims. I called Rodent Pro and they claim the mice were ordered as "hairless." The mice arrive tomorrow and we will see if he eats them. They do have a little fuzz on them. I really need him to eat them as I will have spent $160. He is fine and I alternated the mice and other meats throughout the day. Since I am home, I offer him food every 3-4 hours so it stays fresh and is less likely to be stashed somewhere in the house....LOL! He goes off the quail at times but is liking the chicken more. He likes duck but still does not like organs of any kind. So I have to work in a little everyday. He loves egg yolk. He will have a play date tomorrow with FerretsNFalcons Katie so that will be entertaining. Thanks for your help and I hope you aren't working too hard.

How was your date? FireAngel must be overwhelmed with work, I haven't heard from her. I hope everything is okay. :/ You are doing great. If you feel ready, I will re-submit your menu to Heather for official graduation. We put it on pause since Teddy was giving you trouble, but it sounds like you have a good handle on it.

Yes. I think we have a handle on it now. The play date was so cute. Teddy did not allow the little female to take him down so much this time. She might weigh 1.5 pounds. He is huge compared to her. AND, he was exhausted after she left. Slept for hours! I still feel guilty he is the only ferret. He is so attached to me though. And I do interact with him a lot. He is my little buddy. We are trying to plan a vacation next summer and I have decided it has to be somewhere I can take Teddy too. I hope all is well and thank you for all your help.

I know this is a different subject but I just read on Facebook that a ferret was poisoned by Glade air freshener. Is it bad that I use Scentsy wax melts in my home?

Your menu is just pending official approval. For the candle melters, I wouldn't use them, esp since Teddy is free-roam and there's not a room he stays in that can be scent-free. Essential Oil's are toxic to cats, and believed to be toxic to ferrets as well. They lack an enzyme necessary to break down and metabolize the EO's and filter them out of their system, causing them to accumulate and lead to potential organ damage. Unforuntately, there isn't a ton of great research out there on this for ferrets, but there are a few studies on cats and we know that cats and ferrets (both being obligate carnivores) have extremely similar metabolisms. Since we KNOW that the cats lack this necessary enzyme, it is very. very likely that ferrets do as well. One exposure isn't likely to cause damage, but repeated exposures might. Also, a LARGE exposure (e.g. eating something with EO's, or exposure to a large dose) could definitely cause acute damage and toxicity.

Ok. I have an Ecoquest Clean air unit for my house. Is this bad also?

I have no idea what that is, sorry. If it uses Essential Oils it's not good. If it's like say an air filter, that's not a problem.

Air filter but does produce ozone

Hmm Ozone I'm not as sure - I've heard mixed things. I'd have to read up on it to be honest. Can you turn the ozone function off? My filter has an optional ozone feature that I can switch on and off...

Congratulations :boing: You've graduated and you're ready to walk this path alone :goodjob: . You have the foundation to help you feed your fuzzes in a more natural and healthy manner. Please remember that your learning never stops, and dietary needs change from ferret to ferret and throughout each their lives as you're finding out with your own business. I would like you to be aware that though you now have the capability and the knowledge to create your little ones diets, you are never alone and that your mentor (you need only pm) is always available to you. The list is also a very good resource and you should always be aware that it's available to answer any questions you may have either about diet or care. Good luck, in a few days Sherry will lock down this thread and place it in the archives but be aware that you can always look through it as a reference tool but you just will not be able to post to it. Your mentor will be in to congratulate you shortly :tree:
ciao

Awesome! Thanks! I do worry that my little guy is overweight. And I do hope he gets enough bone. He is fussy and will go off his mice and then go off the other meats. When he is resisting heart, I do supplement his grinds with half of a 500 mg taurine capsule. I often wonder if I should get some bone meal supplement when he is not eating well. Thank you!
