especially the whole prey in the microwave........yuk! I haven't done this but I HAVE warmed a rat (for my snake) in super hot water hoping to warm it faster. Unbeknownst to me it cooked the rat...when she struck and hit the rat it literally EXPLODED everywhere and was the most gods-awful smelling thing I had ever smelled. (Now it is a very close second worst after the horrendous abdominal abscess we drained on a patient a few weeks ago...). haha WHICH is why you are supposed to thaw meat in cool water - warm water will cook it. Esp if it is frozen, it will cook the outside and not thaw the inside. For the fuzzards though, it is perfectly fine to haw or warm the meat in warm water. Warm food is extra enticing! Just be sure it is warm and not hot.....oops! ALSO to follow up on my part of the Q - you do not NEED to thaw out their food every time. It is really good, especially as Teddy becomes more and more used to eating various meats, to present things in different ways. It keeps it interesting for them and is stimulating/engaging. Imagine if every meal you ate was the same temperature. Grinds, chunks, prey, soupie (super good to periodically feed soupie so he remembers it is food in case he ever gets sick and you need to feed him soupies)...warm, room temp, cold...variety is the spice of life! Frozen food is also fun enrichment for them. Koda loves throwing around frozen mice, and it is great extra chewing practice to keep those jaws strong. Frozen meat is great on a hot day too. ALSO it has the benefit of staying good a bit longer bc in addition to your regular meat times, you get an extra buffer while the meat is frozen and thawing. So mix it up!

ewwwweeeee! Exploded rat! I remember circulating in the OR once for an abdominal abscess. Hard to forget that smell. I am leaving for OK for 12 days. I will be back on October 8th. The place I will be has very poor cell phone reception and connectivity. So, I am not sure how often I will be able to communicate. Teddy will be here with John and hopefully they will both survive.

I am back! It was so hard to leave! I love my grandbabies. But my Teddy baby was glad to see me. Boy did I miss him! He is now up to 5 pounds, 9 ounces. He ate very well for John while I was away. Did not smell at all when I got home. Never poofed while I was gone. Has not left my side since I walked in the door. He looks great!!!! He had a sitter who came mid-day to feed him and check on him -- also to play so he wouldn't get lonely. His coat is beautiful. Some friends stopped by yesterday and could not believe his size. They also commented on how well behaved he is and that he doesn't smell. I was not here so John got to show him off. I am off to take a nap as this granny is tired. Last night I slept from 3:30 - 6:30. I ended up staying up nights with the newborn so the parents could get some sleep. Mommy is nursing so she would nurse the baby then hand him to me. He has his days and nights mixed up and tends to get a little fussy. I think they are going to miss me too......................

Ted slept by me all night and has gone into bed on my side this evening. Follows me around and when I am standing he places his head on top of my foot. I love this little guy!

Pretty much the same. Not liking the guinea pig right now. Not too crazy about the rabbit and rat either. It is hit or miss with these three meats. But all the others he likes. He gets excited when I offer him a mouse. He runs ahead of me to his feeding den and waits. Really liking the chicken right now too. Still eating 6 ounces per day on most days. I still have to add the heart, liver, and kidney to other meats to get him to eat them. Likes the fur of a mouse but not the fur on anything else.

Some days mine do not seem all that into rats or the pigs either but then the next they act like it is their favorite. Will you be placing an order soon? When you do I highly suggest quail. That is never a miss with mine lol!

Teddy had a week where he did not want quail and then wanted it the next week. We are still at 94 degrees so I am waiting for cooler temps. I did find some quail at Sprouts. He is really into chicken now. Even more than the duck. Who knows what it will be next week.....LOL! Would not eat the chicken wing this morning. Lapped up the egg yolk this morning though.
