Oopsies. Sorry for a delayed reply. Today Haru and Yuki free roamed for most of the day. It was lots of fun >3< http://instagr.am/p/5v4mjRPwhB I did the towel ride thing with Yuki too! He was chasing after it and jumping on it. Haru chased after it also but didn't jump and ride it like Yuki. They also ate Pork for dinner. Pork without soup! I think its a a massive progress since yesterday! My roommate did get some wings for the ferrets (along with more pork) I ended up cutting up the wingettes today, in halves so I can try them in the morning and see how they go (Or maybe I'll try 2 wingettes and 2 tips). I think it they might eat them whole tomorrow~ (Halved wings) http://instagr.am/p/5wScS8vwt5 Picking up where I left off also~ Yours did great on their first Heart meal. Pop Quiz question...What is another animal part that has high levels of Taurine?I know! It surprised me since Haru was usually fussy but she ate it in one sitting. Yuki was 6 months at the time and ate it happily. I think it was mainly because of the imprinting thing that he tried it. ^^ Maybe its also the imprinting thing that makes Haru very fussy with new meats, especially bone in meats. She's been building up her jaw muscle greatly so she'll be on Bone in meats fully very soon if we're lucky >3< Beef tongue ( or tongue in general) is another animal part that is high in Taurine. ^u^The ick factor for me is brains. Mine love pork brains. I hate taking them and putting them into baggies, they are so slimey.I'm very interested in trying brains with them one day. Maybe not any time soon since its so pricey. But one day when the price drops, Or I find it elsewhere cheaper, I would definitely get some. The thought of brains creeps me out. I'm super squeamish as it is when dealing with meats, especially organs. (shudder) I remember watching 'My Kitchen Rules' (Australian cook off show) and there was a team who was dealing with brains in a recipe and I couldn't handle just watching it. I'll suck it up, when the time comes though. Organ hunting is like a treasure hunt. We get all excited when we find something new to try.Meat hunting in general seems to be a treasure hunt for me! >3< I was so excited with getting some pork. I reaaally want to get some quail. Its next on my list~ Speaking of quail, I wonder if I can find it in the freezer section, kind of like how you can find whole (unseasoned) chicken or turkey. I think I looked once before but I could have missed it. I may have to check again. There's this pet (meat) butcher in the next town that have alot of meats. I might also check there, or at least drop in and see what they have. It should be fun! Very Gourmet...you will have ferrets with an epicurean palate.Duck fat is wonderful. You should be able to freeze it, I never have but it will hold up under freezing. You can also buy a duck and render the fat yourself.Duck fat is expensive, we pay $9 us dollars for a small tub.I buy duck gizzards and hearts. That way I get pricey duck for alot less.I might get a tub of it, or two for the freezer. Can it be used as a treat? What can it be used with in general? Wow! The tub I saw was a small tub and was $3-$4. $9 sound really pricey for some fat. lol. I'm going to look into the duck gizzards/hearts. I don't really see a big variety of duck related meats at the supermarket, or supermarkets in general. Its always Chicken, Beef and Pork that are the most filled up freezers/fridges there. If they don't have any, I'm going to order some in. Are duck hearts better than chicken hearts or is it better since it cuts down on the total amount of chicken they eat?^^ Breasts are expensive here also. They are so lean luckily, I don't bother with them.We used to buy chicken breast all the time but the prices have been rising alot in the past couple of years. Its great for so many recipes and I was considering in using it for treats... but then I ended up using the chicken thigh and the thought came back to my mind that fattier meats would make a much yummier treat to them. So I don't see myself giving them any breast meat. They can have the thigh meat. ^^ This is a picture of my freezer. We have an extra freezer. I went to the dollar store and bought plastic bins. After shopping, I prep meals into baggies and then they go into the bins.
Oh yes~ You've shown me your freezer before. My roommate and I are planning on getting a separate freezer for our garage, so It could be ferret food specific freezer. >3< I think I'll do the same thing, by bagging, labelling and putting them into larger containers. It must make feeding time so much easier since all you have to do is prep the meals every couple of weeks and simply take bags out to defrost before their feeding time~ ^^ I don't understand Fortnightly, lol. What is this, a holiday or like a payment plan?Fortnightly means every 2 weeks and yes, Its a payment plan. I started in January and the overall cost is about $850 for a whole lot of food, including meats. So far I've paid over $500 off and then when I finish paying it off, It gets delivered in november. ^^ Its going to be so fun and that means we won't have to shop for November/December so we save money---to buy ferret things I've now decided. Haha! Haru & Yuki got a big parcel today! Filled with new bedding, like new hammocks~ They loved it! That was a great buy on pork. Wow! My sister has a pet pig in her house. We're not allowed to say the Bacon word around Wilson. He was a micro mini pig and is now a couch with an attitude at over 60lbs.
Wow! I always wanted a pet piggy. >3< They're so adorable, and can be quite affectionate. (this feels somewhat awkward now since I was just dealing with pork not too long ago... ) Pig's are incredibly smart animals and are even considered to be about the same intelligence as a 3 yearold human child if not smarter. I remember there used to be this pig that lived on some land about a few blocks away from where I used to live as a child and it would free roam around the area like it owned the place. Excellent. It's often a matter of finding just the right trick. If she will accept those slivers well, then begin reducing the amount of soup and increasing the amount of slivers and sizes. The idea is to have no soup eventually and all pieces or slivers/chunks.Some prefer slivers to chunks. Some like chunks better. It's just that ferrets tear with their front teeth and chew with their back teeth. I like slivers better for that reason.I usually have the soup defrost in a container and then mix int he slivers after I try giving a few to them. Today, Like I mentioned earlier, I didn't even need to give them any soupie since they both ate the pork as it was! I might try them again with Soupie mixed with pork tomorrow and then try again with just slivers. It's a great start!~ >3< I've been giving them slivers. I thought maybe chunks wouldn't be as easy to tear and chew liek you just mentioned. Since the pork is quite big, I've made the slivers alittle longer and alittle wider. Since I had 4 pork steaks in total, I did 2 with small slivers, and the other 2 with slightly bigger and bigger slivers. ^^ I'm still getting use to the slowness of digital cameras. Our old school cameras seemed so much faster. It's all about the shutter speed. The faster the shutter speed on a camera, the easier it can be to take a photo of a moving object, like a ferret. (lol) I've been using my phone lately for Photos, since the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 has such a lovely camera on it. However the shutter speed on phones cannot be adjusted as much as I would like it to. I have a Fujifilm Compact SLR (its not a bulky SLR, but similar in appearance to that of a digital camera and takes great photos) It's pretty old, about 4 years now and they discontinued my particular brand. (Sadness) Digital cameras can also have a fast shutter speed, but compared to traditional cameras, it isn't as easily changed. Now they have all these applications or something like that while Traditional cameras, all you needed to do was click a button, or turn a nob kind of thing When I studied Visual arts, we got to use the old cameras and it was great fun. I hadn't used on of those in a very long time so it felt alittle foreign. After a day or two, I was taking great photos and figured everything out like it was only yesterday I was using one. Digital cameras are also great since you get the photos so fast and easy, but I still enjoy the old cameras with the huge element of surprise. You'd never know how the photo turned out, unless you developed them. (I did developing by hand also! So fun, but the fumes were nasty! Also had to use your head to count to a certain time, since if you left them in for too long the image would go black ;A;) On another note; Today my roommates friend came over and she was 'iffy' about ferrets when she heard that we got some. You know what she did today? She was taking photos of them! I kept saying things like "oh, you want me to get Yuki out so you can pet him?" and she would be like "... noo...." Eventually I got him out and persuaded her to pet him. Basically I was indirectly telling her "See, He's a very vicious animal. He'll get you with his "vicious" cuteness and by the time he gets you it will be all over~" I was even saying to her that "no, he doesn't bite." and "He nips every now and then, but its only ever at play time, much like your dog does." I even explained that nipping is what they do among ferret friends and we have thin skin and ferrets have glorious thick skin so they don't realise it hurts us. They probably never would know any different unless we kept insisting our skin is thin and it hurts. I think she reeeallly took a liking to them now. Then there was my friend who spoke to on the phone tonight. She was telling me that she was watching my ferret videos and was telling her Boyfriend that she wanted one. I felt it was necessary to at least give her a heads up that they are quite a handful sometimes and require alot of firm teaching. She's in the child care industry for work, so I told her that they sometimes act similar to a 2-3 year old with little tantrum, or misbehaving haha I also said "come stay for a weekend and you can experience Ferrets" >3< I have a huge feeling she'll love them! Yuki was super cuddly today. I used to shy away when he would point his little whiskers near my skin since it was kind of like "What are you going to do, are you going to lick or chomp?" but after alot of handling, I'm starting to get a better understanding of him, and we're building a stronger trust. For my own sake, I started wearing long shirts- I felt I had to at least train myself to be more open and trustworthy to both of them so it was a start and then I eventually just started handling them with short sleeved tshirts. When I used to work at the horse farm, I was told that If I was 'afraid' or 'timid/jumpy' that I should never handle any of the horses. I considered that the same with ferrets especially. The reason is, if you're afraid or nervous and they feel that, anyone could get hurt and no one would be able to do a job efficiently. So like I did with horses, I just immersed myself with being around them, until I was 100% certain i could handle them and keep my cool if something like a bite was to happen. ^^ I'm still cautious with those little mouth full of teeth but I freely kissed his little fluffy head today and have been having lots of hug times for the past week. Haru's not too interested in snuggling, so I sneaky snuggle when she's asleep LOL >3< Okay, I'm off for awhile and you're probably asleep now.
I think I was Hugs to the little ones and please tell them that I think they are doing so well. You certainly are.Lots and lots of hugs! (Aren't their wakey faces the cutest?) http://instagr.am/p/5wHhPFPwh9 http://instagr.am/p/5wHvNXPwiP I noticed that Haru's coat is looking lovely and shiny. When she was playing earlier, My roommate said it looks 'fuller'. Yuki's coat is lighter, creamier and very very soft! Its alot different compared to when we first got him. I thin since they both started on raw meat, their coats went from a bristly texture to a soft and smooth texture. http://instagr.am/p/5wKtQ_PwlE http://instagr.am/p/5wK5lqvwlR http://instagr.am/p/5wLgFAPwl9 http://instagr.am/p/5wXaHWPwkW (mine!!) http://instagr.am/p/5wX2RSPwk_ They really love their new hammocks >3< http://instagr.am/p/5wWxs9Pwjq (Pirate eye~ Arrrgh!) http://instagr.am/p/5wmfVivwo_

(dance) Good Afternoon That adorable face is just killer. Beef tongue ( or tongue in general) is another animal part that is high in Taurine. ^u^

It's part of the fun of ferrenting. Icky brains, poop patrols, checking their ears, cutting up cute animals and I love it all. Pork Brains are cheap here, but not there. Interesting. I'll try just about anything food wise, but I know that I don't like sweetbreads or alot of organs. A pretty restaurant, gourmet chef in Manhattan and I still don't want to eat certain things. [img src="http://i1105.photobucket.com/albums/h352/JW_2012/Emoticons/ .png" style="max-width:100%;" src="http://i1105.photobucket.com/albums/h352/JW_2012/Emoticons/ .png"] Speaking of quail, I wonder if I can find it in the freezer section, kind of like how you can find whole (unseasoned) chicken or turkey. I told you once before, I always find just one feather on the little birds. I hope you can find them. I suspect Haru and Yuki will love them. I might get a tub of it, or two for the freezer. Are duck hearts better than chicken hearts or is it better since it cuts down on the total amount of chicken they eat?^^It can be used as a treat, or as a training treat if you wanted to teach them some tricks. Katt has some great videos on training tips. My favorite is when she points her finger and goes "bang" and Koda falls over. You could offer it as an enticement during nail clippings. It's very fatty and so treat it like an oil. Limit it to 1/3 tsp every 3 days or expect some super loose poops. I haven't found anything that indicates that duck hearts are higher in taurine than chicken hearts. You're right though, using duck hearts cuts down on the amount of chicken meals and we want more variety. It's such a great way to get duck into their diet without spending alot. Duck Hearts appear to be fattier and so are the gizzards. If I put a plate of duck and chicken gizzards out, mine will eat the duck first and it's the same with Heart. I tried it, just out of curiosity. (That just doesn't look like it's spelled right, but it is, hmm...curious. ). Fortnightly means every 2 weeks and yes, Its a payment plan. Haha!
Okay, that's what I thought you might say. Here we call it Lay Away. It's particularly popular for buying Christmas toys and presents. The Holidays will be so much more fun with ferrets. All the wrapping paper and ribbons are suddenly toys and decorations become a challenge. The one thing that I have never done with mine is a Christmas tree. We talk about it, but somehow it doesn't seem like it would be a good idea. I know it would get knocked over and they would climb it. If we weren't free roam, I probably would. Haru & Yuki got a big parcel today! Filled with new bedding, like new hammocks~ They loved it!They will sleep well tonight. Don't you love it when you get new bedding? Plus the parcel must have been in a box or bag, so that's a new toy as well. That plaid is very good looking. I know what you mean about awkward. Sometimes it's hard to love animals and be a ferrent to the little carnivores. Wilson is a lucky pig. He has his own swimming pool and piggie door. He come and goes around the house. My sister has show horses and other animals and a very patient indulgent husband. I usually have the soup defrost in a container and then mix int he slivers after I try giving a few to them. Today, Like I mentioned earlier, I didn't even need to give them any soupie since they both ate the pork as it was! Since I had 4 pork steaks in total, I did 2 with small slivers, and the other 2 with slightly bigger and bigger slivers. ^
That's terrific. Why don't we try doing a day or two without any soupie at all. See what happens if you put out just plates of slivers and no soupie for two days. I don't think they will go hungry, but if they really balk, and refuse breakfast and then dinner, just post and we will go back and add some soupie. Are you comfortable with that? It use to be fun waiting to see your pictures. We would get so excited going to pick them up. I like it better now though and it's great that we can edit them and add text. Amazing the difference from those old cameras like the Kodak that printed out the picture in front of you. GFountain on the forum, is a professional photographer and also teaches school. I can see the difference with someone who knows what they are doing versus my own Non Pro pictures. It really is an art. You seem to be very talented in so many different art forms. On another note; Today my roommates friend came over and she was 'iffy' about ferrets when she heard that we got some. You know what she did today? She was taking photos of them!I love it. You're spreading the word. Soon all of your friends will have ferrets and you will be the voice of experience. I noticed that Haru's coat is looking lovely and shiny. When she was playing earlier, My roommate said it looks 'fuller'. Yuki's coat is lighter, creamier and very very soft! Its alot different compared to when we first got him. I thin since they both started on raw meat, their coats went from a bristly texture to a soft and smooth texture.
Isn't it amazing? That's the first thing that we notice when we switch them to raw. Have you smelled any Grapetails yet? Wait until the next time that you go into a pet store and feel how rough petstore ferrets little fur is. I have some cards made up and if a saleperson is a ferret fan, I leave them with him or her. Hopefully, they will pass them on and some new ferrent will get to learn more and be part of our community. I love the pictures in between our conversations...I hope they keep coming. The new bedding is handsome. I also love the pirate eye. (dance) Let's talk about Diet and a Ferret's teeth . Teeth are especially important for a carnivore. Just like with humans, healthy teeth lead to a longer life. Plaque and Heart disease have been linked together. This article by Bob Church is a nice read and will also teach you the basics of a Ferret's dental design. Bob Church is on Facebook and posts alot. He also is very witty. I sent him a friend request and he approved me. You might be interested also. www.ivis.org/journals/exoticdvm/9-2/Church.pdfI'm off to check on the little ones and maybe get some playtime in, before dinner. Tell Haru and Yuki, that they are eating so well and that I'm very happy with the two of them and their Mom. :wave3:

(dance) Good Afternoon it's currently 6pm and very dark outside. It was such a nice day today! That adorable face is just killer.
Yes! I keep trying to resist urges to cuddle, but always end up giving in and cuddling them anyway. A Plus, you're correct!
Proof I'm learning from all this studying and lessons. >3< (dance) It's part of the fun of ferrenting. Icky brains, poop patrols, checking their ears, cutting up cute animals and I love it all.It is! ^u^ That's where I find ours. In the freezer sections of even small Asian Markets. They come in a six pack. I told you once before, I always find just one feather on the little birds.I hope you can find them. I suspect Haru and Yuki will love them.I hope I do too! I'm so excited to see how they would do with a nice quail. It can be used as a treat, or as a training treat if you wanted to teach them some tricks. Katt has some great videos on training tips. My favorite is when she points her finger and goes "bang" and Koda falls over.wow! Can you link me? I would love to see them!>3< You could offer it as an enticement during nail clippings. That would be great. Ferrets are so wriggly when it comes to nail clipping, well mine are thats for sure lol. It's very fatty and so treat it like an oil. Limit it to 1/3 tsp every 3 days or expect some super loose poops.Right! ^^ I haven't found anything that indicates that duck hearts are higher in taurine than chicken hearts.Maybe they're about the same? I'm intrigued by that now. I might do some more research on hearts. ^^ You're right though, using duck hearts cuts down on the amount of chicken meals and we want more variety. It's such a great way to get duck into their diet without spending alot.I'll try and substitute the chicken hearts with duck hearts then ^^ I'm thinking they would be about the same price, maybe duck alittle more but in anycase, it shouldn't be expensive since its only hearts. Would they tell the difference in chicken and duck hearts? Duck Hearts appear to be fattier and so are the gizzards. If I put a plate of duck and chicken gizzards out, mine will eat the duck first and it's the same with Heart. I tried it, just out of curiosity. (That just doesn't look like it's spelled right, but it is, hmm...curious. ).
Fattier is good! >3< Oh I did that with chicken hearts and chicken gizzards a while ago and they both went for the heart. Ferrets must have an inbuilt fat meter "This is fatter than this, I shall eat it first." Okay, that's what I thought you might say. Here we call it Lay Away. It's particularly popular for buying Christmas toys and presents.
Oh my god. Lay a way sounds funny We call it 'Lay-by' here and its the same with christmas toys as well. Alot of our Larger Stores do Lay-By on large items or things like Games and such. It makes life easier sometimes The Holidays will be so much more fun with ferrets. All the wrapping paper and ribbons are suddenly toys and decorations become a challenge.I wonder if they'd open their own presents, that would be cute! Or even if the presents are hidden, like in a rice box and they have to dig to find it. That would be soo super adorable! The one thing that I have never done with mine is a Christmas tree. We talk about it, but somehow it doesn't seem like it would be a good idea. I know it would get knocked over and they would climb it. If we weren't free roam, I probably would. We sometimes have a christmas tree at chrismas. I think this year we'll be vary wary on what goes on the tree, especially since there's ferrets in the house now. I think maybe just stay away from any choke-ables or blockage-ables or anything that could be toxic in any way. Maybe its even best to just fence it off or move it when they come out to play They will sleep well tonight. Don't you love it when you get new bedding? Plus the parcel must have been in a box or bag, so that's a new toy as well.I want to get more hidey holes, or even some more sleeping sacks for them. Yuki uses the hammocks more than Haru, but Haru seems to like to hide and snuggle up into blankets so the sleepy sack would be a nice thing for her >3< I think I got more excited over the new bedding then they did. Oh well.. I know what you mean about awkward. Sometimes it's hard to love animals and be a ferrent to the little carnivores.I'm a huge animal lover, but then I'm also so excited and happy to see the ferrets happy eating face that I forget I feel slightly bad over getting animal meat. I think I zone out when I deal with animal meat. I guess in a way its a good thing so then I can focus on the little hungry carnivores in the next room. I still really love animals, but since carnivores need meat to live a healthy life, its best to just be thankful. (and in my case since I'm a buddhist, wish for the animal a better next life )
Wilson is a lucky pig. He has his own swimming pool and piggie door. He come and goes around the house. My sister has show horses and other animals and a very patient indulgent husband. Wilson should have an episode on MTV Cribs. (a tv show where they show a home/life etc) hehehehe. What a lucky piggy. He must be spoilt. >3< When I was younger I used to make these crazy plans with my best friend (of now, 15 years) that we would buy lots of land and take in many animals. Kind of like a zoo, but minus the caged for human entertainment thing. More like a rescue. I actually still dream of that. maybe in the future. I would love to have many animals, or even foster again.
Of course! I doubt they will refuse to eat, since They've eaten slivers before the soup anyway so I'm sure they'll be fine. I also have some chicken thigh slivers so if they get sick of pork like they did with the gizzard, I can easily switch and see how they go. ^^ Today I tried them on Chicken wings, the halved ones in the morning and they didn't seem to be touching them. So, Starting with Yuki, I grabbed (that sounds rough, but I was gentle when picking him up lol!) him and had him in my lap, then I grabbed the half wingette and held it nearr his mouth. I dabbed it on his mouth and on the side and he started chewing at the bone. Yay >3< I did the sam with haru but she wasn't interested in the bone part of it. Though she did get a good taste of it and was licking and biting at the meat side of it. I them in the cage and I found a few missing, none stashed as far as I had searched so One of them must have taken a few wing halves! I'm guessing Yuki, But I'll keep trying with Haru because she'll come around eventually. It's almost dinner time now, so I'm giving them some Pork slivers again, then I might try a half wing and see if they eat it. That's really interesting. It sounds like you love photography.I'm a very creative person by nature >3< Photography is fun, I especially love taking photos of my animals. Sharing animal photos is wonderful~ It use to be fun waiting to see your pictures. We would get so excited going to pick them up.I remember being like that when I was about 6-7 yearsold. I remember going to the zoo and seeing penguins and getting all excited about seeing the photos afterwards... Which reminds me, I'm still badgering my dad as to where those photos went LOL I like it better now though and it's great that we can edit them and add text. Amazing the difference from those old cameras like the Kodak that printed out the picture in front of you.I used to have a 35mm film SLR (the old manual ones) It was a japanese brand and was so fun to use. I even had one up until a few years ago. You can still get them and get the photos done traditionally. They're so cheap so I might get one for the fun of it. I borrowed my old universities 35mm film SLR and I had two lots of film so basically it all went on taking photos of my birds with experimenting with lighting affects and shutter speed. They still take incredible photos. >3< At uni, I said "Can we use digital cameras?" since they wanted us to do 35mm film SLR and I'm one of those "I'm going to die if I cannot use my photoshop for editing" kind of people. They said I couldn't use digital and I nearly freaked out alittle LOL But anyway, it was a fun experiment. Polaroid cameras that print the instant photos are so convenient, but these days they can cost alot, much like cameras in general. I want one. >3< GFountain on the forum, is a professional photographer and also teaches school. I can see the difference with someone who knows what they are doing versus my own Non Pro pictures. It really is an art. You seem to be very talented in so many different art forms.Photographers see things differently when it come to taking photos. I noticed that with my old teacher. It also takes so much experience, trial and error and learning to take amazing photos. After so much practice, you tend to see things differently and its not all about simply pressing a button and taking a photo ^^ I think any photo is wonderful though. Professional or not, photos are visual memories. Its a wonderful thing. >3< Thank you! I like to broaden my interests, so it helps with my skills in the long run. ^u^ Plus its super fun. I love it. You're spreading the word. Soon all of your friends will have ferrets and you will be the voice of experience.Jessica, My friend of 15 or so years, Once started my cat family back when I was around 9 or so yearsold. She gave me a kitten and that was my first kitten which actually left a nice scar on my arm. (funny, I get scars from all my first animals. Ah the memories.) After that, we got another kitten (that we were told was a female, but we soon learnt was not......), Kittens turned to cats and then eventually we had kittens of our own before we had her fixed. I think she should start a business. LOL Isn't it amazing? That's the first thing that we notice when we switch them to raw. Have you smelled any Grapetails yet? It's incredible! I'm yet to smell any grape tails but I thought I might have smelt something, But I couldn't pin point what kind of smell it was. It was a nice smell. I might go sniff them later and try to figure it out.Wait until the next time that you go into a pet store and feel how rough petstore ferrets little fur is. They don't sell ferrets in any of the pet stores where I live. I think I remember seeing one in a larger pet store about an hour and a half away about 3 years ago but they have since closed down. I think its a good thing though since ferrets are not a 'well known' pet here and the pet stores wouldn't look after then appropriately. I have some cards made up and if a saleperson is a ferret fan, I leave them with him or her. Hopefully, they will pass them on and some new ferrent will get to learn more and be part of our community.
oooh Thats smart! Its also passing on better knowledge compared to what alot of petshops tell new ferret owners. I heard they're not very smart when it comes to ferrets 98% of the time. Something else I noticed about my ferrets since they started raw was they look much happier and are less "moody". I love the pictures in between our conversations...I hope they keep coming.Haha! I think its also a good thing to share the photos, since over time we might see the difference in them. Plus I love showing photos because they're so adorable >3< The new bedding is handsome. I also love the pirate eye. (dance)Its wonderful! I need more bedding. They have a good amount now, But I'm working on getting alot more over time so that its easier to clean, and so I can make their cage nice and pretty. Pirate Yuki!
Let's talk about Diet and a Ferret's teeth.

I'm off to check on the little ones and maybe get some playtime in, before dinner. Tell Haru and Yuki, that they are eating so well and that I'm very happy with the two of them and their Mom. :wave3:I'll check the article out later on~ ^u^ I'll also have more photos later on since its almost play time! yay! Have fun with your play time! (I noticed I check on Haru and Yuki sometimes during the night. I love seeing their sleeping faces. They're wonderful) Bye bye for now!

Good Morning (over here) Here is a link to Koda's tricks. Katt has two, Koda and Kenai. Kenai is a waardy and very sweet but I don't think he has learned any tricks. holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/13100/koda-bears-tricksholisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/13586/kodas-latest-trickProof I'm learning from all this studying and lessons. >3< (dance)You are a really quick study and so smart. It's such a pleasure and I'm having fun working with you. Maybe they're about the same? I'm intrigued by that now. I might do some more research on hearts. ^^ Here is a good article about Taurine and how it works. I'll look for more info. The basic thing to know is that Taurine is produced in Muscles. So, the more a muscle is used, the more Taurine is found in it. That's why we use Hearts, they are always moving. holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/15089/information-taurineExcuse me if I link something twice, I should go back thru the posts first, but as we get further along, it takes so long. This morning, I'm rushing to get out the door. We have some errands to run. I'll try and substitute the chicken hearts with duck hearts then ^^ I'm thinking they would be about the same price, maybe duck alittle more but in anycase, it shouldn't be expensive since its only hearts. Would they tell the difference in chicken and duck hearts?
Around here, duck hearts and chicken hearts cost the same. Mine took to them right away, so I don't know if they know the difference but they know what they like and they like duck. I wonder if they'd open their own presents, that would be cute! Or even if the presents are hidden, like in a rice box and they have to dig to find it. That would be soo super adorable!
They can open their own presents as long as you don't make it too hard. They also open ours. I found that out one Christmas. (giggle) Ponce got a dirt dig box one year and he had no trouble getting thru the paper and spreading dirt everywhere. My mother, who doesn't know ferrets thought that was a mean gift. Once I explained, she got it. Hidden presents are exactly what I mean by Foraging Treats. That's a fun game. Hide FDR in little boxes or wrap them and let them work out the solution to finding the treat. I forget I feel slightly bad over getting animal meat. I think I zone out when I deal with animal meat. I guess in a way its a good thing so then I can focus on the little hungry carnivores in the next room. I still really love animals, but since carnivores need meat to live a healthy life, its best to just be thankful. (and in my case since I'm a buddhist, wish for the animal a better next life )
I remember reading that Paul McCartney and his wife Linda were having lamb for lunch and looked out their windows to the outside. They saw their lambs frolicking and deciding then and there, to become vegetarians. I can understand that. Since I don't have a religion, I believe it's a moral imperative to be kind always and will carry a spider or mouse outside. However, somehow grocery store wrapped meat falls into a different category. Someone else already killed it and it would be disrespectful to the animal not to make it's life have a purpose. When I was younger I used to make these crazy plans with my best friend (of now, 15 years) that we would buy lots of land and take in many animals. Kind of like a zoo, but minus the caged for human entertainment thing. More like a rescue. I actually still dream of that. maybe in the future. I would love to have many animals, or even foster again.
That's a wonderful dream. I hope it comes true for you. Paul and I love to make plans for winning the lottery. We don't really buy tickets, but it's fun to think of winning. We would buy a large ranch near a Veterinary school. Then hire a nice couple to run the ranch and I would have a ferret rescue and resettlement school. Wyoming or Montana would be lovely. So, Starting with Yuki, I grabbed(that sounds rough, but I was gentle when picking him up lol!) him and had him in my lap, then I grabbed the half wingette and held it nearr his mouth.
Excellent. They are really being very good with their new foods. I meant to clarify that yesterday and remembered in the car. Let's keep working on the wings like you are. Leave them in overnight for them to work on. It's the meals that you sit with them, like breakfast and dinner, that we want to try no soup for a few days, just slivers. If you want to try a new protein, that's fine also. Which reminds me, I'm still badgering my dad as to where those photos went LOL
I have a trunk full of old pictures. That's one of the things that I like about digital. What I'm not sure of though is how technology will work with storing them. We have advanced so fast, that it seems like they will get lost in cyberspace. That's old school thinking on my part. But, I've seen vinyl records, 8 tracks, cassette tapes, CD's and now things like IPods and all along the way, everyone collected these things and now can't use most of them. It's incredible! I'm yet to smell any grape tails but I thought I might have smelt something, But I couldn't pin point what kind of smell it was. It was a nice smell. I might go sniff them later and try to figure it out.
Grapetails are fascinating to me. When Mika was a baby, her urine smelled like grape koolaid. I would tell people and they would say, "why are you smelling her urine?". Ha! Non Ferret people just don't understand. lol They don't sell ferrets in any of the pet stores where I live. I think I remember seeing one in a larger pet store about an hour and a half away about 3 years ago but they have since closed down. I think its a good thing though since ferrets are not a 'well known' pet here and the pet stores wouldn't look after then appropriately.
Really, that's interesting. You have an excellent point and it also means you don't have ferret mills like our Marshall's. I love that. Something else I noticed about my ferrets since they started raw was they look much happier and are less "moody".
I think they feel better. You'll also find that they become more affectionate and allow more snuggles. We really build a bond with them because of feeding and meal preps. I'll check the article out later on~ ^u^ I'll also have more photos later on since its almost play time! yay! Have fun with your play time! (I noticed I check on Haru and Yuki sometimes during the night. I love seeing their sleeping faces. They're wonderful)
Check out Bob Church sometime when you have a few minutes. He has done so much for Ferrets and writes the best articles. He has spent alot of time in New Zealand as I understand it. I'm not sure why some much of his research was done there. Is that a place where ferrets run wild? I have so much respect for him. Okay, I'm off to get my day started. I'll check in later. :wave3:

Good Morning (over here)
Good night (saturday night) lol. I think it probably is morning over there. So good morning to you also! I wasn't feeling all too well today. I recently started new medication for my anxiety so I have to take it easy until the horrible side effects pass. You know what i noticed today? I was feeling somewhat down, and I went to cuddle Yuki & Haru and Yuki was giving me those little licky kisses and I didn't receive any nips for a whole half an hour of cuddling. Majorly spiked my mood. actually basically every time I cuddle him I feel incredibly bubbly. Who needs anxiety medication when you have ferrets lol. >3<
Sorry that I didn't reply yesterday. I was writing this reply last night but I ended up falling asleep early. Anyway for today, (Sunday), I fed both Haru & Yuki Pork slivers and chicken slivers. Last night they had the chicken slivers and when I checked this morning, they were all eaten up. ^^ Haru seems to be eating more as well. I think she ate about 2.5-3 ounces this morning. She had a little food baby, it was so adorable. >3< Yuki's still eating roughly 4 ounces as usual. He's such a big boy. Their poops have both been a dark brown with a smooth consistency. Here is a link to Koda's tricks. Katt has two, Koda and Kenai. Kenai is a waardy and very sweet but I don't think he has learned any tricks. holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/13100/koda-bears-tricks
holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/13586/kodas-latest-trick
Ahhh so adorable! I love watching trick videos. Ferrets are so smart! >3< You are a really quick study and so smart. It's such a pleasure and I'm having fun working with you.
Thank you ! (dance) Here is a good article about Taurine and how it works. It's quite alright! I've read this article before, but I think I mentioned a while ago that I do enjoy re-reading. It's a great article. I might persuade my roommate to give it a read. Before getting a ferret, I never knew about Taurine, regardless of where it comes from. I was especially intrigued by how you can find more Taurine in working muscles, muscles that are always moving. Around here, duck hearts and chicken hearts cost the same. Mine took to them right away, so I don't know if they know the difference but they know what they like and they like duck.I'm going to get duck this week (even though its not our main shopping week). Haru & Yuki did so well with trying Pork after they were mainly on Chicken, so I'm certain they will try the Duck straight away too. Maybe they do taste a difference, maybe they just like the taste of Duck meat and I'm so excited to give Duck a go. >3< They can open their own presents as long as you don't make it too hard. They also open ours.I found that out one Christmas. (giggle)Thats so cute! "Look mommy, I opened 'MY' present for you!" lol. Ponce got a dirt dig box one year and he had no trouble getting thru the paper and spreading dirt everywhere. ooh that would have been fun to clean up! We recently got a (large) container and we're planning on getting some rice for it for them to dig in. I would try dirt, but they're probably get dirt on the carpet. ;A; My mother, who doesn't know ferrets thought that was a mean gift. Once I explained, she got it.Before I got ferrets, I probably would have been like like also. Hidden presents are exactly what I mean by Foraging Treats. That's a fun game. Hide FDR in little boxes or wrap them and let them work out the solution to finding the treat.I'm going to look into researching about foraging ideas. I think theres a couple of threads on here, so I'll go find those and I'm sure I'll be able to come up with some great ideas for Haru & Yuki. Ohh! You know that game, pass the parcel? It was something we would play as a game in birthdays over here so I'm not sure if its the same over there. It's a fun game and you basically just pass it around and each person would remove one layer of wrapping and gets a treat. It can have multiple layers so theres lots of treats~ I think that could be easily done with FDR treats and minus the passing around for ferrets lol. I remember reading that Paul McCartney and his wife Linda were having lamb for lunch and looked out their windows to the outside. They saw their lambs frolicking and deciding then and there, to become vegetarians.Oh my, that would have put anyone off. ;A; I can understand that.Since I don't have a religion, I believe it's a moral imperative to be kind always and will carry a spider or mouse outside. However, somehow grocery store wrapped meat falls into a different category.Someone else already killed it and it would be disrespectful to the animal not to make it's life have a purpose.I also carry spiders outside, as long as they're under a cup and away from me lol. (I'm terrified of them)^^ I also trap mice in a live mouse trap and release them a long way from my house. ^^ I also understand what you're saying. I would have to agree with that. Even though I don't agree with the methods of some slaughterhouses (thats another story) but I also think it would be disrespectful to the animal if the meat were just wasted. In our ferrets case, it is of great purpose since it will be giving them a very healthy life. That's a wonderful dream. I hope it comes true for you.Paul and I love to make plans for winning the lottery. We don't really buy tickets, but it's fun to think of winning. We would buy a large ranch near a Veterinary school. Then hire a nice couple to run the ranch and I would have a ferret rescue and resettlement school. Wyoming or Montana would be lovely. It probably won't come true if its how I had envisioned it. But some aspects of it could. ^^ My whole family does the same thing with the lottery dream. I love that dream! Thats such a wonderful dream! Excellent. They are really being very good with their new foods.I meant to clarify that yesterday and remembered in the car. Let's keep working on the wings like you are. Leave them in overnight for them to work on.
I tried the tips again this morning and they didn't touch them. So I just gave them the slivers for now. I might cut the tips up alittle and see how that goes later on for their dinner. Somehow I think if they can see the inside meat, then they would try them. Thats what happened with the wingettes. ^^ It's the meals that you sit with them, like breakfast and dinner, that we want to try no soup for a few days, just slivers. If you want to try a new protein, that's fine also.I'm quite happy with their progress on trying new meats and eating the slivers. So far, they're eating chicken thigh slivers by themselves. I have noticed that Yuki doesn't eat at the same time as Haru but its okay since I leave the slivers in the cage. They're also now eating pork slivers by themselves! I'm especially pleased with Haru, since she was the most stubborn of the two, to try the pork. Fast progress! I have a trunk full of old pictures. That's one of the things that I like about digital. What I'm not sure of though is how technology will work with storing them. We have advanced so fast, that it seems like they will get lost in cyberspace. That's old school thinking on my part. But, I've seen vinyl records, 8 tracks, cassette tapes, CD's and now things like IPods and all along the way, everyone collected these things and now can't use most of them.Technology really annoys me sometimes. You would get something like a new camera, and they would already have the next version available. It happens so fast... I still have some old cassette tapes. I no longer have anything to play them on... lol. Grapetails are fascinating to me. When Mika was a baby, her urine smelled like grape koolaid.I would tell people and they would say, "why are you smelling her urine?". Ha! Non Ferret people just don't understand. lolLast night I sniffed up Haru's tail. (lol that sounds funny) and it smelt like artificial grape! She has a grape tail! I tried the same with Yuki but he doesn't have it. Though he smells faintly of it on his back. I wonder why that happens... "why are you smelling her urine?" HAHAHA. "It's not what you think!!" Really, that's interesting. You have an excellent point and it also means you don't have ferret mills like our Marshall's. I love that.Yep. There's no ferret mills as far as I'm aware. Sadly though, we have puppy mills which are horrible. ;n; I think they feel better. You'll also find that they become more affectionate and allow more snuggles. We really build a bond with them because of feeding and meal preps. Its as exactly as you've said! I've been snuggling with them more, especially Yuki and he would soak up the attention for a long while. >3< Check out Bob Church sometime when you have a few minutes. He has done so much for Ferrets and writes the best articles. He has spent alot of time in New Zealand as I understand it. I'm not sure why some much of his research was done there. Is that a place where ferrets run wild?I have so much respect for him.Yes, I hear that Ferrets, Weasels and Stoats are a big problem over there. I think it would be the best place to see how they would be in the wild, especially to get a better understanding on everything. ^^ I read the article and love it! Its so informative. I'll have to read more of his articles. ^^ Okay, I'm off to get my day started. I'll check in later. :wave3:I'm also getting off. I should have replied the night before but i fell asleep early. I'm actually awake and it's past midnight here. Paul and I went to the Drive In. We saw Vacation and Trainwreck. They were both funny movies. Trainwreck was very sweet and rather touching.
I'll post in the morning. Now I have to get everyone settled down, have a little playtime and get into bed.
Try cutting the wing tip lengthwise and twice width wise and then drizzle some oil in the cuts and see if that tempts them. If it doesn't try giving them frozen wing tips. We've seen some ferrents rush a frozen meal to their ferrets and they like the meatsicles. Who knew. It's just finding the right trick combined with familiarity with the new food.
Grapetails are so cool! Congratulations. Such an odd smell to find on an animal. Who thought that up? "Let's make ferrets smell like grape kool aid"
I'll catch up tomorrow, tonight is late for me. I remember times when we would just start to go out and find parties and dances at midnight.
I love all of the pictures. How do you get the Japanese writing on your pictures. Do you use a translation tool or have the symbols on your keyboards?
Okay, Good Night from here and I hope your Day is fun. Hugs to Haru and Yuki. :wave3:

Oh wow a drive in movie? Are those the ones that you sit in your car to watch movies? We don't have any of those here as far as I'm aware. I've never seen those movies. They sound interesting so I might have to check them out.
Yay playtime! Yuki and haru are coming out to play shortly. ^^
Ill try doing that tonight and see how it goes. the frozen tips also sounds like a good idea to try ^^
I was so ecstatic When I smelt the grape. Haru must have been thinking I was crazy lol.
I have a Japanese keyboard setting on my phone and MacBook ^^
Goodnight to you and your furbabies!

Good Morning Drive Ins are fun. Paul and I both grew up, going to Drive Ins with our families. The kids would run around and play. They had these funny speaker boxes that attached to the windows and if you were lucky enough to have a truck, you turned your truck around and everyone piled into the back of the truck with blankets and pillows. Then when you started dating, everyone went there for dates. Hot Stuff! Now Drive Ins are almost gone, but we have one in our tiny town. It's packed with everyone from families to dating couples. There is a concession stand and you can get burgers, fries and all kinds of fun movie food. Its costs $6 to get in and candy is a dollar, burgers run about $4. Our little town is like stepping back into the 1950's. It's conservative and a dry county (no alcohol). Ladies dress to go into town and church life is big. These movies had the F bomb (alot) and it is very unusual for our two theatres to show anything like that. We only have one showing on the weekends at the Drive In and the Cinema and they are always family friendly. There will be alot of talk in town this week. (giggle) I'm going to get duck this week (even though its not our main shopping week). Haru & Yuki did so well with trying Pork after they were mainly on Chicken, so I'm certain they will try the Duck straight away too. Maybe they do taste a difference, maybe they just like the taste of Duck meat and I'm so excited to give Duck a go. >3<
Great! I can't wait to hear how they like it. If they balk at first, do the lap method and sit them on your lap and hand feed some slices.
Very good, everything sounds nice and normal. It sounds like you are seeing the appetite increase as they begin to really benefit from the nutrients and start to feel better and eat better. Haru had a little food baby? Is that a typo or some some Australian slang? ooh that would have been fun to clean up! We recently got a (large) container and we're planning on getting some rice for it for them to dig in. I would try dirt, but they're probably get dirt on the carpet. ;A;
Dirt was very messy and then Ponce had to be washed off. It didn't last long. We lived on a beach and there was always sand everywhere anyway, so we did that next. I think they will love their rice box. Some people use beans and that makes me nervous. I'm quite happy with their progress on trying new meats and eating the slivers.
They really are making very good progress. That tells me that you are doing everything right. The Ferrents who don't succeed usually don't spend the time to actually work with them. Mine rarely eat at the same time either. Its as exactly as you've said! I've been snuggling with them more, especially Yuki and he would soak up the attention for a long while. >3<
It is just so lovely to have them snuggle and really begin to get interested in meal prep, and get excited over their food. So much nicer, than opening a bag and pouring it into a bowl. Yes, I hear that Ferrets, Weasels and Stoats are a big problem over there. I think it would be the best place to see how they would be in the wild, especially to get a better understanding on everything. ^^ I read the article and love it! Its so informative. I'll have to read more of his articles. ^^
I wish they wouldn't think of them as problems. I'd love to have wild Mustela's everywhere. Here our Ferret population was decimated and in the 1980's, they found a tiny colony of wild black footed ferrets living. They rescued them and we have begun a national program to repopulate and restore them to the wild. Our National Zoo runs a program and they have a Ferret Cam up. You can see them and when they have babies, we get to see the kit cams. The black footed ferret is so cute. It looks like a little hillbilly with funny ears that stick out. Okay, I'm off to check with the rest of the forum and then today I plan to hang out and read. It's my lazy day. Hugs to Haru and Yuki, and give yourself a nice pat on the back. You are doing so well. (dance)

Good Morning I was just heading to bed~ Drive Ins are fun. Paul and I both grew up, going to Drive Ins with our families. The kids would run around and play. They had these funny speaker boxes that attached to the windows and if you were lucky enough to have a truck, you turned your truck around and everyone piled into the back of the truck with blankets and pillows.I've seen those in movies. (Watching people watching movies in movies. wow) They sound like so much fun! We have this one Cinema called Hoytts (I think), and they have a couple of theatres that you're able to sit on bean bags to watch movies. They also have others where you can sit down and have a full blown 3 course meal. (Very pricey though) Then when you started dating, everyone went there for dates. Hot Stuff! Now Drive Ins are almost gone, but we have one in our tiny town. It's packed with everyone from families to dating couples. There is a concession stand and you can get burgers, fries and all kinds of fun movie food. Its costs $6 to get in and candy is a dollar, burgers run about $4.Thats so unbelievably cheap. I love that candy is so cheap. (we call candy lollies over here) Back when I was like 10 yearsold, they used to sell lollies for about 5 cents to a dollar for a whole bag and these days its like $2-$3. So pricey, but I don't eat lollies anymore so oh well. (giggle)
I once visit this small town up in the country. I think it was out of Bendigo and It was like It was like stepping into the 1900's. I have a huge interest for history. >3< We also have this place in Ballarat called Sovereign Hill. They have the place all set up like its from 1850's! It's kind of like a little town and they have a school, a theatre, hotels and even stables that are all from that era and they have people walking around in clothes from the 1850's. Its literally like walking back in time. I've been there a couple of times, It's amazing. Great! I can't wait to hear how they like it. If they balk at first, do the lap method and sit them on your lap and hand feed some slices.I only had to use the lap method twice and the rest was just talking to the ferrets in a calm voice. Hopefully they'll be good little furbabies and eat the duck on first try. ^^ Very good, everything sounds nice and normal. It sounds like you are seeing the appetite increase as they begin to really benefit from the nutrients and start to feel better and eat better. Haru had a little food baby? Is that a typo or some some Australian slang?
Or it could be that they're little piggies. (just kidding) I noticed their appetite increased and they didn't seem like playing too much today. Actually it was mainly Yuki who wasn't playing as usual. Haru however, was quite playful. Strange. One must have the day off. I actually have a feeling maybe the weather was playing a major role in his 'less playful' energy. It was quite windy, and I think he too interested in going to check out the window to see where that wind whistle is coming from. I have to admit, I giggled when you thought that was a typo. I didn't think it was a slang, But who knows. Its such a strangely funny, yet adorable thing. Especially when animals get it. I hear it alot these days, especially when someone eats so much or are so full they say "Ah~ I think I'm having a food baby." Dirt was very messy and then Ponce had to be washed off. It didn't last long. We lived on a beach and there was always sand everywhere anyway, so we did that next.I think they will love their rice box. Some people use beans and that makes me nervous.Your house must have become one with the sand. Literally living on a beach. haha! That would be lovely. I always loved going to the beach. I haven't been to one in so long. Last time I went, I found a washed up shark egg. I was going to try uncooked pasta or beans but I was afraid they might swallow or choke on them ;A; So I thought rice would be best (and I hope it doesn't get stuck up their little noses) They really are making very good progress. That tells me that you are doing everything right. The Ferrents who don't succeed usually don't spend the time to actually work with them.
I'm happy that i'm doing everything right they never came with a manual so I was frantic (what If I do bad, what if they hate me/etc etc etc lol). It kind of led me to do so much research just to be sure I'm doing the best I can. ^^ Since I made the commitment, I feel obliged to do everything can to get them started for a healthy life. They've made me so happy since I brought them home. I guess I could say they're like an emotional support animal, so I do what I can for them, and they do what they do which seems therapeutic to me. lol ^^ It is just so lovely to have them snuggle and really begin to get interested in meal prep, and get excited over their food. So much nicer, than opening a bag and pouring it into a bowl. It's the best kind of reward~ >3< I wish they wouldn't think of them as problems. I'd love to have wild Mustela's everywhere.I was just reading about it ;n; Apparently they're a threat to native species. Which is understandable... but then I read something about 'kill' traps and my heart just shattered into millions of shards.
They're adorable. I would love to cuddle one of those cute little furballs~ (and hope I don't get bitten ha) >3< I would love to see one in person one day. (probably won't but I can always wish ) I read somewhere that there's around 300 in the wild currently. Thats not very much when you think about it ;n; I hope they can come back strong. They're such wonderful creatures! Okay, I'm off to check with the rest of the forum and then today I plan to hang out and read. It's my lazy day.Have a fun, lazy day! I should now finally get to sleep. After just finishing reading. (one more page... ) Hugs to Haru and Yuki, and give yourself a nice pat on the back. You are doing so well.(dance) :boing:

We have this one Cinema called Hoytts (I think), and they have a couple of theatres that you're able to sit on bean bags to watch movies. They also have others where you can sit down and have a full blown 3 course meal. (Very pricey though)
Sitting on bean bags sounds like fun. It also sounds like something we would have done in the seventies at midnight movies with the smell of incense (and other things) in the air. I saw a cool picture on Facebook of people in inner tubes in water watching movies on a big screen. I would love to do that.
That sounds really cool. I love history also. It would be fun to live like that, as long as I could have my contact lenses and blow dryer.

You're doing so well. Haru and Yuki are lucky to have you. Bringing home a real skin baby is like that. When they released us from the hospital, Paul and I just couldn't believe they would let us take our son home, all by ourselves.
Ferrets are therapeutic, I guess all pets are to those who care. I truly have never had so much fun in my life. Just pure childlike fun, watching and playing with them. That has to be good for you. We do have some ferrents here who have registered theirs as Emotional Service Animals.
It's my night time now. I'll play some catch up on the forum and then begin a new book. Happy Monday to you. :wave3:

Hi! Haru and yuki have been eating well. They've been eating the chicken thigh slivers all day. I also weighed them and they seem to have lost some weight. Its almost their 1st birthday and I read that they lose baby fat. Could that also be the reason for the change in weight?
1. Yuki. 2. Weight: 1129g. 3. He's eaten 3.5 ounces this week per meal . 4. stools: Medium to dark brown, smooth consistency. 5. Activity levels: energetic, playful. (Well behaved) 6. Weekly menu: pork, chicken slivers, wing/tips at one stage.
1.haru. 2. Weight: 708g 3. Shes eaten about 2.5 ounces per meal this week. 4. Stool: medium-dark brown, smooth consistency. 5. Activity levels: very energetic, playful. (She's starting to ankle nip *sigh*) 6: same menu as yuki.

I tried some chicken wings this morning and they didn't touch them at all. ;A; I separated the wingette in half and drizzled a small amount of olive oil on them and all they did was lick it off. (sigh) So after leaving it and coming back to see nothing eaten, I ended up cutting the wingettes in halves (vertically through the bone) I forgot to give them their weekly egg last week, so I decided I would give this weeks egg alittle early. Then I came with an idea to have some egg drizzled on the chicken wingette pieces. So I tried that and they just licked it off (sigh) I've left it in their cage again and I'll check again later. I'm hoping they try it. Otherwise I'm going to do the lap and dab method.

Something caught my interest with a topic in a ferret fb group. It was regarding salt and pork. How much salt is too much when it comes to ferrets? I looked at some threads on here and i found out that pork can sometimes have salt enhancers and that it can be soaked to rid the salt etc. Is salt generally bad for ferrets if they consume too much salt? Since pork is okay to feed them, what should I watch out for if it has salt?

I'm so happy with haru! I sat with her for about half an hour with a piece of chicken wing. I was holding it firmly against her side of her jaw until she opened and I put it in. She was reluctant to chew at it but eventually she started chewing. It took a while until I started hearing the bone cracking and I was telling her she's a good girl I sat with her until she completely finished the piece. She tried to run and stash it but I held her in my lap until she started chewing again. I did the same with yuki but he needed less time to start chewing at the bone. He ate one all by himself in the cage. Yay
