Yummy! I have an assignment for you if you choose to take it, Make up a MOCK menu for a week of 5-6 whole/complete meals with the rest frankenprey. Complete meals can be whole prey or complete grinds, doesn't matter it is just for practice.

FireAngelI'll try :-) Do you mean complete in the sense that organs and hearts are included to the 5-6 meals or like the "balanced frankenprey with whole prey" in the pinned thread? I'm not sure, if I understand it correctly.

I mean everything included just like a whole prey item (complete). If you would like you can do 3 whole prey items and 3 complete grinds for this practice or all whole prey or all grinds but I only want to see a total of 6 complete meals that you will balance with 8 frankenprey meals.

If I read Thursday right as being chicken hearts only then yes, that is it! No worries about the misunderstanding, this is why we do these practice things, so we can work out those pesky things! :goodjob:

Yes, that what I meant, heart only in that meal on TH am. I'm happy, that I'm getting the hang of it slowly. The routine is established and it's getting normal. Just forgot once to thaw their meal. Worst ferrent alive But I'll never go back to kibble. Too much benefits!

Holy s*... I have to get rid of the last meals of complete beef grinds... And with complete I mean COMPLETE... The smell of it is awful. Thankfully there are only two meals left...

I'm reducing the amount of grinds more and more. There is still some meals left, I only feed it 1-2 times a week, so it takes some time to empty my stock completely.
I add following to the variety:
-Rabbit (bone in), it comes as whole prey, but it's 2,5 to 3,0 kg, so I have to butcher it into meal size portions... I also found a good source of front legs for a cheap price, so I'll feed it more often. -Quail, kitchen ready, so only the carcass, wings and legs, no more intestines/organs.
So I found reliable sources for rabbit, quail and chicken for bone in meals. Muscle meals aren't a problem at all, I get most from the grocery. Heart+Organs (beef or chicken) are feed as grinds, just because the boys accept it the most. I add salmon oil or quail eggs to the grinds. Because I'm lazy I order it from the internet, but getting everything from the grocery is no problem.
I will also throw in fish, horse and rats soon. They're getting older and I don't want to miss the window when they'll eat "everything"...
My menu haven't changed, I just play around with the proteins.
My boys are 4 1/2 month now. I'm not absolutely sure, but I think they aren't that hungry anymore... Most of the meals won't be eaten up, only when it is a favourite... It's only a few days since this "issue" started... Is it the "time" for eating less? I don't know when this should happen. They still gaining weight and act like kits should do...

So, I went shopping...
3kg of whole rabbit, 3 large rats (just to try out) and some more mice. The price for the rabbit is amazingly reasonable with only 9€!
Ordered online the heart and organ grinds and some bone-in meals (necks etc.).
No one will stay hungry...
But I have a question... They are 4 1/2 month old and eat less then before. Is this normal at this age?
Bye :-)

Is this normal at this age? Bye :-) Do you mean they eat less food at meals or that they eat less often. Kibble fed ferrets eat more times throughout each day because they aren't getting nutritionally filled up. Raw fed ferrets eat less often during each day because what they eats is giving them the nutrients they need. It's like when we eat a sweet, we're hungry again quickly. Sugar spikes makes us hungry again and we haven't received any nutrients. Are you weighing them now? If they are maintaining their weights or gaining then that's very good. Winter is coming and ferrets eat bigger amounts during the winter. Watch their weights, their activity levels and poop production and that will tell you if they are doing well.
