So I am new to this forum. I just bought my baby ferret Shelby a week and a half ago at a pets store. I know dreaded pet store but I couldnt find a breeder. Anyways I have had a ferret before and so has my husband but I came across raw feeding and I have been on this website for over a week now doing research for a franken prey diet. So my question is the whole parasite stuff. I bought human grade chicken to make soupie for my 3-4 month to get her started but I was wondering does it still need to be in the freezer for 3 days?

No, if it's food grade then you usually don't have to freeze ciao

Your little Shelby is adorable. Her coloring is gorgeous. She will eat alot at first. She's still young enough to be a Tummy with Teeth.
I saw that you signed up for the Mentoring program, that's great. You can also build your own switching thread until you are assigned a Mentor. Then once you have your Mentor, you will be well on your way.

She definitely tried egg yesterday a couple scruff and stuffs later and she ate the whole yoke I gave her so she should be pretty easy to get her switched.
She is really small I think she is more on the 3 month side she is a little less than a pound right now. I actually didn't pick her out when I got her she picked me out. I went to the pet store because I like seeing the puppies and kitties and I found the ferret cage and she just followed me around and wouldn't leave the glass. So my husband asked if we could pick her up and well when we did she cuddle and gave us kisses. So shes like my love at first sight for sure.
Right now I am thawing out my soupie ingredients then I will try her on it and build my own switching thread.

Welcome to HFF! Shelby is a cutie! Don't be alarmed whe she eats 4-6 ounces a meal or more (12oz a day) for a bit. They eat a lot when you first start the switch and she eats a lot anyway because she is a kit! Can't wait to see lots of pictures of her growing up!

They tend to find and choose us. It's quite a compliment. Colors and Patterns have different names in the States vs Overseas. Sherry is our resident color expert. I'll link the chart that I have and you can look at it: The AFA has a good explanation on colors and patterns: www.ferret.org/events/colors/colorchart.htmlTheir undercoats are primarily cream or white. The topcoat or guard hairs are what make up their colors and patterns. In the Winter, when their fur thickens, more white and cream color shows. Then you see a change in their color. In the Spring as their winter coats thins, the guard hairs emerge and more color and pattern show up. Your little one may see alot of color changes. Whites and Silvers do. Here is a fun link where ferrents show how much their ferrets have changed over time and seasons: holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/641And another, just for fun. holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/16529

I also really apologize for posting this in the wrong place. I was on my phone and I guess I was on the wrong part of the forum.
