Oh man. Eating lemons! What a weirdo. No it's not the best thing for him to eat. It probably wrecked his stomach with the acid. However, it won't hurt him in the long run. He probably had an upset tummy and that's why he didn't eat or have a lot of energy. Since he has a normal poo and has eaten I think it's safe to say to not vet him yet. But do watch him. If he ate any seeds those might be hard to pass and could cause a blockage. As long as hes eating and pooping you are in the clear.

I know right? What ferret likes lemons? Ok thank you. That's reassuring. I'll keep an eye on him. If anything unusual happens I'll take him to the vet. But yeah. He's sleeping now in his little nest he's made out of old blankets. I'll weigh him when he wakes up and eats breakfast (which is normally the time I'd weigh him) and I'll post the details.

Awesome! He looks great and his weight is holding steady. He's eating a good amount. Once we start adding slivers there is less water than the soupies so he will fill up faster and for longer.

That's a good point. Less water means more food per ounce. I was relieved when I saw his weight because it proved I'm just a worrier and he is getting what he needs. Now to get him eating more slivers! Xx

Had (what I think is) a bit of a breakthrough with slivers just now. I woke up at 5am and got an impulse to take Leo for a walk around the block (he was begging to get out of his cage), so I got some cubes of food out of the freezer for him and a clump of frozen slivers and put them on a plate to defrost, so that they'd be ready at 6. Anyway we went for a walk, but it started to rain a little bit so I brought him home and stated preparing my room so I could rinse him off and dry him, (he got pretty muddy when the rain started) and I turned around and saw Leo licking the slivers which hadn't been mixed with anything (still partially frozen) and getting little ones and chewing them up... Then he got the whole lump in his mouth and took it into his box. I figured he'd just stash it , but I watched him and he ate the whole lump as if it were a solid piece of meat... so I'm going to offer him some slivers with no soupie separate from his soupie this evening and see what happens. Quite excited because he's been very hit-and-miss about taking them...

That is awesome. Those little breakthroughs can really help. It'll be interesting to see how he takes liver and heart then. Maybe it's one of those flavored that is throwing him off.
Does he have a place to stash and eat? I feed my guys in a den made out of those grey rubber maid containers. I flipped mine upside down and cut a hole in it on one end. This way they feel safe.
I only use it outside of the cage but you can use one in a cage too.

Yeah... That's a good point. I'll try making some slivers. Sometimes he'll chew on little bits of heart that I didn't blend properly in the soupie, so I'll try making some liver slivers and see what he does. But not right now... I don't want to ruin the momentum until he's truly comfortable with them.
He has a couple places. He has a place under our stairs, but I only let him use that sometimes. He also has some boxes that I've put around my room - just cardboard boxes with a hole in them but I am going to get some plastic storage containers. I have been trying to work out where I'd put a box for him to eat in his cage. It will require some rearranging... my family's better with stuff like that so I'll ask them lol.

His slivers have increased in size today. We'll see how he does since he's still asleep lol.

He ate them with no problem. Then he ate his soupie. Yep this is it. He wants them unmixed. I can do that! Lol xx They are about the thickness of my thumb nail, and the same depth and length as they were before.

Lol, I would ditch the soupie for the most part, maybe give it to him once a week (always good to keep them on a soupie of some form in case they get sick). Keep upping the size now. Make them thicker and longer every other meal. Same as before if we move to fast we can slow down for a day or two. You can, if you want to try, to add in liver and heart slivers are well. This will get him used to the texture of those. Right now, we are not concerned about balancing, he can go a few weeks without them so if he doesn't take to them that is okay.

That's brilliant. I was actually thinking he seems not to like the soupie as much - he's trying to get hold of pieces to chew and he can't so he prefers slivers. I think you're right and that's pretty exciting! I think he'll be fine with the heart but might have trouble with liver. For a few more days at least I'll keep it as muscle meat and see how we do Xx
