1. Where did you first learn about natural diets for ferrets?
When I first joined the Facebook page on a whim, because I knew dog/cat kibble had bad things in them and that Marshalls was bad for my babies!
2. Please describe the type of diet you would like assistance in switching your ferret(s) to. Be sure to include if you are interested in feeding whole prey (live or frozen-thawed) and if you are wanting to FULLY switch to a natural diet or PARTIALLY. If you are unsure what kind of diet you want to put your ferrets on, please express that and we can help you find the best type of natural diet for your ferret.
I THINK what I want them on is NOT full prey (I have little hamsters and such that they get along with), but the step before it, maybe As far as how much, I want them FULLY on a natural diet... only the BEST for my babies!!!
3. Why are you interested in switching your ferrets to a natural diet?
Firstly, because if I am the one preparing their food, I know what's in it and I can trust it as far as I can trust my own knowledge and personal research; It's what I do for myself, cooking my own meals from scratch instead of relying on the word of some crafty company's greed. Secondly, and probably most importantly, it's the natural way of things; I want them to have a good wholesome life, and feeding them what they would naturally need is a big part of that!
4. Do you understand that switching your ferret to a natural diet can be a lengthy, arduous process? Its not an overnight switch. It can be a commitment of several weeks or even months. Your HF Mentor will be more then happy to assist you in switchng your ferret(s) to a natural diet, but you need to be equally as commited. If you aren't willing to tough out a potentially lengthy switching process, or if you have major life changes approaching (baby on the way, moving, starting school, getting married/divorced, etc) then it might be a better idea to wait on switching your ferret's diet until you have more time. Are you willing to make the commitment?
Yes, trust me, I do! I am STILL trying to get my babies to USE THE POTTY!!! UGH! Love them Also, I have been aware of this forum for quite some time, and when I read this question the first time, I decided to wait, hence why I am here so late I am having to pack my deceased grandmother's house and work and this takes up a lot of my energy and time, but I realllly want to do this!!!
5. How many ferrets do you currently have? What are their names? Ages? Genders? Do they have any health problems? Are they overweight? Underweight? How long have you had each ferret for?
I have four beautiful little monsters
Kisses is my first at 3yrs on May 5th. She is a girl and we used to call her Mr. Taco, until we got our 2nd ferret and he was DEFINITELY a boy (shy) She is no where near as heavy as I believe she should be, but she's healthy, playful, and naughty (she KNOWS she's not allowed to bite, yet she does, runs away laughing hysterically, only to come back and sweetly kiss you in the same spot) We have been together for 2 1/2 yrs!
Mage was my second; I probably got him a week or two after Kisses. He's albino... had to have!!! We celebrate his 3rd birthday on the 5th of May as well! He could gain weight, but he's a beautiful athletic boy. Only major deal with him is that he gets sensitive in his bowls and rectum if he doesn't like his food.
Ink is my baby. His real birthday was on May 5th and that's why we use that day for all of them, because the others are unknown. He was the tiniest/youngest I have ever had in a ferret! No health problems, I'd like to see him gain weight.
Annie (after the orphan) is my scaredy cat, jumps at EVERYTHING! Kisses and Mage are meanies to her because of this, so I keep them separated. Ink is kind and patient with her so she is basically in love. I got her because she bit people until they bled and then bit down harder. No one wanted her, and the pet store offered her to me, knowing I had 3 already. *sigh* It's been tough helping her and working out schedules for the 2 groups, but I love her and wouldn't trade any of them for the world. She is miniature compared to the others, but she is also the heaviest. I don't think she needs a weight change, but knowing her, she'll take to meat the fastest and gain MORE weight!
6. What diet do you currently feed your ferrets? (Please include all treats, supplements, etc) Do they already eat some form of soup?
Whatever kibble that seem to have the least amount of sugar, corn, grain, and bad stuff at the time, choosing a higher fat content over protein due to Kisses's size. Ferretone skin and coat supplement (although I recently heard that it causes cancer?! Oh boy. And an egg or two stirred up once a week instead of lax.
7. Have you ever tried to switch your ferrets to a natural diet in the past? If yes, what happened?
On my own, yes. They don't like it... well Annie was kind of into it, but... Honestly, I have never had a pet before them (except for a hamster), so I don't really have much experience in training, but I am VERY patient with them.
8. What additional information about yourself or your ferrets would you like to share?
Haha! I feel as if I have shared too much, already!!! I am ready to learn, and can't wait... throw me at some help!!!
9. How often during the week do you have access to a computer?
When I am at home, so during the mornings, most days, some evenings, and after work late at night.
10. Please post a picture of each of your ferrets (if possible).
