Last night I lost my little girl, she was happy, eating, and playing with Rowdy and her toys. Around 12 I couldn't find her, looked everywhere for her in the usual sleeping spots, until I found her sprawled out under the chair. I thought she was asleep until I picked her up.... She was lifeless, I started panicking, checked her breathing and pulse, but it was already too late, she had passed... Her eyes were still open until I wrapped her up, closed them, layed with her, and just kept saying, "I love you". I don't know what more I could've done, she had already left me. She was perfectly fine and then I found her like that, I just want her back. D.I.P. Chiquita, I love you always.

I'm so sorry There is nothing that one can prepare one for this type of find. I will light a travelling candle for your wee girlie, to guide little paws onto their next great adventure. Gentle journey little one. Fly high and free, visit often. On a more medical note....if she wasn't ill or didn't appear to be ill before and you have other ferrets in the house please get a necropsy done. In such a case where there appears to be no reason for a little one's death, finding out a cause to prevent any possible infection or risk to the rest of the business is something one should consider. ciao

Thank you everyone, last night and today have been rough. We buried her earlier after the group and myself said our final goodbyes, Rowdy layed with her one last time this morning and stretched his paw out towards her, they gave kisses and I held her one last time, gave her one last kiss, and said I love you before burying her. It's starting to really take a toll on me, I've cried more than anything today. All I want to do is hold her again and bombard her with kisses. She's my first ever ferret to lose.... And heather, she had adrenal surgery not too long ago, the rescue I got her from said we weren't quite out of the danger zone and she most likely had a blood clot. She was perfectly fine, energetic, playing, eating like normal and then I found her lifeless under our chair. I panicked, check for a pulse, breathing and it was too late... I wrapped her up and put her on my chest, cried until I fell asleep, woke up with her still in my arms and just start crying again. I don't know how many times I said I love you and kissed her head before the burial.

So unexpected and very tragic. They say the firsts hurt the most, but honestly losing anyone, regardless of species can be extremely hard. Try your best to smile and be happy. Obviously, Easier said than done, that i can understand all too well. Crying is natural and it can even help the healing process, so if you feel the tears coming, just let it all out. Do your best to think of the good things, like for example the happy memories and how you've given her an amazing life, regardless of how long you had her. Think of those times where she would do the most silliest things and would always make you smile without even trying. ;u; Stay strong for your beautiful girl.

Chaquita's loss just breaks my Heart. Our first loss is so hard. I still can cry thinking of Ponce and it's been two years. Give yourself time to grieve and one day, you will be able to smile with memories of her. I'm so glad the others had a chance to say their Goodbyes.

Thank you everyone for the kind words. Today has been terrible for me. I'm used to waking up and seeing Chiquita and Rowdy both looking at me like, "Mommy, we want to play, let us out pleeeaaase?", I love waking up to their cute little faces. The house just doesn't feel the same without her. I moved her toys into my room on thier cage, everytime I see them in the living room, I'd just start crying. On top of all this, I've had people telling me to get over it, she's just a ferret, nothing more. Let's just say, a grieving ferret momma snapped and then later broke down. I was so upset my boyfriend had to calm me down before I passed out. No one tells me to get over it and that she's just a ferret. She wasn't, she was my sweet little girl, my little Chiquita. I loved my baby girl so much in the short time I had her. She didn't have a good life before I adopted her and I gave her as much love as I could and gave her all the playtime her heart desired. I tell all my babies everyday that I love them and give them kisses. I'm so sorry for your loss marietta, I hope you find comfort too. When they leave us, a part of us goes with them too.

Have you thought of a Memory box for Chaquita? Put her favorite toy or toys, and maybe her blanket along with some pictures and her papers in a pretty box. I have one for my Ponce and sometimes, I look in it and remember. Some people are just stupid. Forgive them, they will understand one day when someone they love passes on. All of us are here for you. Anytime that you want to talk about sweet Chaquita, do so. We all will listen and understand.
