Oh, organ poops are the GROSSEST! They're dark, bloody, and have no bone to give them shape. As long as he's only having those poops after organ meals it's totally normal

Oh okay.... They were so gross... I was so worried about him Since he had some bone in meat now his poops are back to normal. I think I'm going to buy a new electronic scale because the old one is giving me funny results xDD

Now that Sherlock has been eating raw for a couple weeks, how's everything going? If you could post a menu for the upcoming week that would be great

He is doing great! His coat has grown a lot now, I think he might be a semiangora? I was told that he was when I got him, but I really didn't think so because the parents looked normal to me... I noticed his coat looks healthier and has more volume dispite we are like in middle of summer! He's also gained weight, I'll post his current weight when I get the new scale. But he looks chubby lol
I ran out of organs yesterday, so I gave him a can of Greenwood's for supper. It contains whole hearts and minced organs in it. I will stop by the butcher's on my way home to do this week's shopping. I didn't believe Sherlock would eat SO MUCH hahaha he finishes his food very fast!
Thursday (today): I already gave him Quail bone in meat for breakfast, and he'll have chicken wings for supper Friday: Lamb muscle , rabbit bone in Saturday: chicken wings , Heart/liver/kidney (Chicken and rabbit mix) Sunday: Cornish Game hen bone in, Patridge bone in Monday: Patridge bone in, chicken Heart/Liver/Kidney Tuesday: Rabbit bone in , duck gizzard Wednesday: Quail bone in, Heart/Liver/Kidney (Quail and partridge mix)

Your menu looks great! Having a kit is so nice because they WILL eat everything. One thing I should warn you about is when they stop growing and such and become an "adult" they will suddenly cut their eating by half. This usually happens around 6-8 months Any chance you have a picture of Sherlocks new fluffy coat?

Ok, I will be aware of that knowing me, I'd panic the moment I see he doesn't eat as much as before hahaha But I'm so happy that he eats everything I give him, I hope that when the new baby ferret arrives he turns to raw as fast as Sherlock ^-^ I will take some pictures of him today when I get home

He is fluffy! And so gorgeous <3
I can definitely see that he's half angora. Angoras can be prone to a number of illnesses. It probably helps a lot that he's only half, but you might want to research them just in case so you can recognize the symptoms early if they ever occur.

Oh... I didn't know angora ferrets were prone to illnesses they are so pretty! Sherlock's future companion is also a half angora. I'll go read about the symptons. What a bummer, I really wanted an angora ferret some day xDD

Well, it sounds like Sherlock is doing great with his diet, and that you might be ready to graduate!
The first thing I will need you to post is an example menu for a week. For each meal list what protein/whatever it is, and what type of meal (bone-in, muscle, heart, liver/organ, etc).
The second part is a final exam, which is as follows:
1. What are some good emergency taurine sources if you run out of heart?
2. How can you tell if your ferret is getting too much or too little bone?
3. List 3 sources of edible bone.
4. Are cooked bones safe to feed? Why or why not?
5. Organs should consist of approximately how much liver, and how much "other" organ?
6. How many different proteins does a ferret need in a week at a minimum?
7. Is it best to feed the egg whites, egg yolk, or the entire egg?
8. What is a healthy diet item that can be used for hairballs, and his often should you give it?
9. Are leaner meats better for your ferret or fattier meats?
10. About how long is a ferret's digestion time?
Don't worry if you don't know all of the answers off the top of your head. You are allowed to go searching around the forum and read through other posts if you need to. Since Sherlock is a kit and took to raw so quickly we didn't necessarily go through all the info that usually comes up in the course of a switch. Of course myself and the forum will always be here to answer absolutely any questions you may ever have.
Good luck!

Oh!! cool *3* My example week menu will be like I've been doing so far. I find it very simple and easy to follow Monday: partridge bone in - Chicken heart/liver/kidney Tuesday: Rabbit bone in - Chicken gizzards (Duck is more expensive here and I can't find the duck gizzards anymore :c) Wednesday: Quail bone in - rabbit heart/liver/kidney Thursday: Quail bone in - Chicken wings (bone in) Friday: Lamb muscle (leg) - rabbit bone in Saturday: chicken heart/liver/kidney - chicken wings (bone in) Sunday: partridge bone in - quail bone in Yay! exaaam (dance) 1. What are some good emergency taurine sources if you run out of heart?I believe you can get it in supplement form or capsules? I have some cans of Greenwoods wet food for ferrets and they do contain hearts and contains 2500mg of taurine per can. I only feed the cans if there's an emergency. 2. How can you tell if your ferret is getting too much or too little bone? When poop looks seedy it means there is too much bone in the diet, if its all loose we need more bone! 3. List 3 sources of edible bone.
Rabbit legs, chicken wings, quail legs/wings 4. Are cooked bones safe to feed? Why or why not?NO! they will splinter and can perforate the insides of the ferret :c 5. Organs should consist of approximately how much liver, and how much "other" organ?50% heart, 25% liver, 25% other organ (I use kidney) 6. How many different proteins does a ferret need in a week at a minimum?I believe its 3 7. Is it best to feed the egg whites, egg yolk, or the entire egg? I think the whole egg is better, just scramble it well before serving. Feeding only the yolk is still ok. 8. What is a healthy diet item that can be used for hairballs, and his often should you give it?Eggs and/or salmon oil are good for that. 1 chicken egg or 2 quail eggs once a week would be the ideal. 9. Are leaner meats better for your ferret or fattier meats?
Fattier meats 10. About how long is a ferret's digestion time?3-4 hours I hope I did ok

Love fuzzy baby fur :stpatrick: Congratulations You've graduated and you're ready to walk this path alone. You have the foundation to help you feed your fuzzes in a more natural and healthy manner. Please remember that your learning never stops, and dietary needs change from ferret to ferret and throughout each their lives. I would like you to be aware that though you now have the capability and the knowledge to create your little ones diets you are never alone and that your mentor (you need only pm) is always available to you. The list is also a very good resource and you should always be aware that it's available to answer any questions you may have either about diet or care. Good luck, in a few days Sherry will lock down this thread and place it in the archives but be aware that you can always look through it as a reference tool but you just will not be able to post to it. Your mentor will be in to congratulate you shortly :wave3: ciao

Congratulations! I know you are planning to get Sherlock a friend, so feel free to message me should you need any help with that transition as well. Of course if he/she is a kit it will likely be just as easy! I also encourage you to stick around as an active member of our forum.

Yaay!!! (dance) Thank you so much Celene! I really thought it was going to be much harder to transition to raw. Specially to keep up with the daily menus. But it was so easy to do!! thank you sooo much :DDD I will stick around of course, I like sharing my experiences as well as helping and learning! If I encounter any problems with the new ferret I will let you know! He will be coming home in August, I'm so excited!!!
