1. Where did you first learn about natural diets for ferrets?
When I studied to be an exotic's vet nurse we learned the natural diets of most exotic animals and how to prepare critical care foods for them.
2. Please describe the type of diet you would like assistance in switching your ferret(s) to:
I would like to switch my ferret to a natural diet, I am still unsure to which one. Definately not live prey. I am vegetarian and I do have some issues with handling meat. Sorry! hahaha, but I am ok with feeding raw food to my baby, I just don't know yet what would suit both of us better, so I will need some guidance there xDD
3. Why are you interested in switching your ferrets to a natural diet?
I work at a shop where we only sell healthy 100% natural animal food (we don't sell animals though) and although I have been feeding my ferret the best kibble food available, I still believe that natural is better. And I think he would be healthier than eating dry kibble.
4. Do you understand that switching your ferret to a natural diet can be a lengthy, arduous process? Its not an overnight switch. It requires a commitment of several months at minimum. Your HF Mentor will be more then happy to assist you in switching your ferret(s) to a natural diet, but you need to be equally as committed. The switch takes time and effort every single day. It can also be extremely frustrating at times. If you aren't willing to tough out a potentially lengthy switching process, you have major life changes approaching (baby on the way, moving, starting school, getting married/divorced, etc), or limited time due to work, then it might be a better idea to wait on switching your ferret's diet until you have more time. Are you willing and realistically able to make the neccessary time commitment?
Definately, its a price I'm willing to pay for my babie's wellbeing
5. How many ferrets do you currently have? What are their names? Ages? Genders? Do they have any health problems? Are they overweight? Underweight? How long have you had each ferret for?
Right now I just have Sherlock, he's a 2 month old male. He is just recovering from a bad diet of poor quality cat kibble. He looks healthy at the moment, his new kibble is working miracles on him. I've had him for a week and a half and I believe he will be ready to take the change soon :3
6. What diet do you currently feed your ferrets? (Please include all treats, supplements, etc) Do they already eat some form of soup?
He is eating Canagan for cats: free run chicken and he has had 2 chicken soups so far. He really likes them
7. Have you ever tried to switch your ferrets to a natural diet in the past? If yes, what happened?
I did start when I had 3 ferrets 6 years ago, sadly 2 of them died before I could complete the switch. The other one moved to live with a friend of mine and she kept him with kibble.
8. What additional information about yourself or your ferrets would you like to share?
Well, I am vegetarian as I mentioned before. I am more than happy with feeding the ferret meat and egg but I would like to avoid pork, where I live the pigs are in very poor, disgusting and cruel conditions their whole lives and the local slaughterhouse isn't killing them humaneley. I'm trying to make a statement here! I'm ok with chicken and other meats, most come from the mainland Spain (I live in an island) from proper "humane" slaughterhouses. Also, I am very grossed out by handling organs lol I'm ok with other meats as long as I have gloves on. But organs make me sick [img src="http://i1105.photobucket.com/albums/h352/JW_2012/Emoticons/.gif" src="http://i1105.photobucket.com/albums/h352/JW_2012/Emoticons/.gif" src="http://i1105.photobucket.com/albums/h352/JW_2012/Emoticons/.gif" src="http://i1105.photobucket.com/albums/h352/JW_2012/Emoticons/.gif" style="max-width:100%;" src="http://i1105.photobucket.com/albums/h352/JW_2012/Emoticons/.gif"] I will need assistance finding a slution to that.
9. How often during the week do you have access to a computer?
Every day!
10. Please post a picture of each of your ferrets (if possible).
