Ok, I'm confused. I have 5lbs boneless (80oz) of meat and 1lb bone in(16oz), which equals 96oz total of just meat. Does that mean I need 9.6 oz of liver/kidney instead of 8.4? And how much heart will I need for this amount of meat? I want to make sure their food is completely balanced. So...12oz liver/kidney...84oz meat and bone...that SHOULD be 8.4 total ounces of liver/kidney, not 12. And 5lb(80oz) of non bone meats would need 5 tsp bonemeal powder. Ratio for organ meats is 10% total diet. 5% liver/5% other. Ratio for the bonemeal is 1/2 tsp per 8 oz non bone meats.

Just following soupie recipe except for organs, which I gave half liver and half other organ: 1. 96 ounces of just meat will make 12 eight- ounce soupies 2. Every soupie gets 1 ounce of liver, so that is 12 ounces of liver 3. But they want half liver and half other organ, so that makes 6 ounces of liver and 6 ounces of kidney or whatever organ you can find. 4. Each of those 12 soupies gets 1 ounce of hearts, so 12 ounces of hearts 5. Twelve 1/2 teaspoon = 6 level teaspoons For 80 ounces of just meat will make 10 eight-ounce soupies 1. 5 ounces of liver and 5 ounces of kidney 2. 10 ounces of hearts 3. 5 level teaspoons of bone powder Maybe this is right

I completely screwed that one up! Let's do step by step. 16oz wings, 80oz meat, 12oz heart= 108oz. Heart is a necessary muscle meat and as long as it is at least 10% of the diet it is fine. So that would mean 10% organ would be 10.8 oz. 5.4 each of liver/kidney For bone meal, as follows 80oz meat, 12 oz heart, 10.8oz organ= 102.8oz. So at the ratio of 1/2 tsp per 8 oz should be 5.4 tsp. Since the wings have their own bone I didn't count those in this. I think this is the correct ratio now This is why I far prefer frankenprey lol. 1.5 meals of organs a week is MUCH easier on this old brain!

Ok, I've changed up my recipe for my babies. 1lb chicken wing 2lbs turkey wing 1lb lamb 1lb beef 1lb turkey 12oz chicken heart 5.4oz beef kidney 5.4oz beef liver 3tsp bone meal powder Trying to make the grind mostly bone, so they can get to a Frankenprey diet in the future and used to eating more bone. Looks about right You have room to move the bone meal up a little bit if you need to , but not essential unless stools are a bit loose.

It's been a while since my last update, but all my kiddos are taking to bone in their grind, Frankenprey diet is getting closer and closer! I do have a minor set back with my oldest Rowdy, he's developed insulinoma and currently not eating much, so he's getting raw soup until his appetite returns to normal. I did create a different thread about his insulinoma for those that want to throw in any extra advice about it. Sherry @poncesmom FireAngel Heather

I'm sorry about Rowdy. Insulinoma is serious but can be managed. I'll look at your post next.

It can indeed be managed, especially with raw Judge had been on the same dose of pred, and was doing fairly well, for close to two years before we lost him to a blockage.

Excellent questions! I'm wanting to switch mine as well. A lot of your questions were the same as mine. I'm nervous for whatever reason to make the switch. Does everyone who feeds raw weigh each meal? And if so, how much are you feeding per meal?
