Love coming on here, don't feel crazy about getting excited over wee! My OH thinks I'm crackers, but in a good way (I hope)... Mako has been getting that many cuddles and kisses he's actually learnt that while in my arms he can roll onto his back and put me away with his front paws... Daft thing is that he often then tries to give me kisses as though he's changed his mind. But yes, more kisses are in store for my wonderful little fuzzie! Been playing with the sewing machine today trying to make something else that will stay on him, and so far not had much luck. I've had another idea so going to have another go at it now. Wish me luck! haha

ferretbrah sorry I missed your post, must have posted while I was typing. Nothing yet, I'll post on here and facebook as soon as they arrive. Hopefully won't be much longer. His penis was really hard this evening when I checked in on him (and got a cuddle and a few kisses in too!), his bladder wasn't too large but far from empty. I couldn't get anything out by squeezing his bladder so wiped his penis with a warm damp cotton ball and it got him going. With a bit of a squeeze and a wipe he managed to urinate and the swelling went away. All I can think is that his body is desperate to go so things are swelling up and he needed that bit of help in alleviating the pressure so he could actually go. I was hoping that we had overcome all the assisted urinating but I guess it's going to be hit and miss. Going to have to see if the rescue will take them for a day/night next month as my FIL is getting married. I was hoping/expecting them to be fine with being left in the afternoon and coming back first thing the next morning, but I can't leave Mako like this and short of sneaking him into the hotel not much else I can do.

Checked him this morning and no swelling, I could hardly feel his bladder and he seemed very happy with himself. He did how ever had a bit of an explosion while I was stretching his legs, might have been the bouncing, some pain or just bad timing. I'm wondering if it's the Oxbow CC that's causing the problem, maybe too much too soon or too close to eating raw. Might have to try a bit less with more of a gap between raw meals, it did help get his medication into him though, he hardly noticed it was there.
Anyway the main reason I'm posting is because his wheel chair has arrived!!!! YAY!!! I let him check it out and then I sat him on it, he seemed a little surprised with how fast he could go (as was I) but otherwise okay. I fastened one of the straps and he didn't like that. I thought I'd leave it for now, and try again this evening. I'm thinking of trying it 3 or 4 times a day, for very short periods and slowly build it up.
Oh and his private jacuzzi bath (foot spa) has also come today! So got that to try out too.

Congratulations on the wheels! I'm sure he'll get used to them soon, he seems like a very adaptable little guy. I'm so glad to hear he'll be able to run about again!
I just read your post about moving his legs around even though they're completely floppy - I'm reluctant to assume that paralysis in ferrets works the same way as in humans so I'd double check this with a vet, but in humans you need to keep moving paralysed limbs. When muscles aren't used, with time they contract and become stiff. These contractures can become painful if sensation is preserved in the area, and even if not then having a limb fixed in tight flexion can cause all sorts of problems with eg. pressure sores. I've no idea if this sort of thing can happen in ferrets, but I'd definitely ask your vet about it.

Yes, ferret limbs are just like human limbs when the spine becomes damaged. Massages, manipulation of limb is imperative to prevent contraction and atrification of the muscles. That's wonderful that you've got his wheels. It is going to take him a bit to get used to it but they do go. All of a sudden they're no longer dragging that weight around and other than getting hung up on objects they can maneuver amazingly well. ciao

It sounds like good news so far! Glad he has gotten his wheel chair, hopefully he will keep urinating at least some on his own!

Thank you for all your kind words. It really does keep me positive about things with Mako, well your words and watching him be a goof! Love that silly sod so much. I will have a go at making him a jacket, and maybe a 'helmet' too. The way he's dashing around he will need one! haha.
The trio are booked into the rescue while we go to the wedding. The wedding is actually closer to the rescue than we are, so if they have any problems I won't be far away and can dash off to see them. The lovely rescue lady will be taking Mako home with her overnight, to keep a close eye on him and give him any help he needs with his bladder. Which will be good as I'm not too keen on him being in a cold barn as he has no muscles or fat on his rear end/back legs to keep him warm.
He's still not great with his wheel chair, however I did manage to make a body suit out of a tea towel that he can't get off. However he's decided that while wearing it he isn't going to move anyway! Awkward little monkey!
When he managed to urinate by himself either he or Bolin are 'cleaning' him up, and we all know about ferret sandpaper tongues. He ends up bleeding and sore from it, but that seems to encourage him to do it all the more. If he doesn't manage to go on his own then his penis swells up and it's become a case of squeezing his penis and bladder alternatively to allow him to go. Back to the vet next week to see if there is anything else I can be doing and for a check up. Korra needs to go too, found one of her stitches sticking out of where she had that lump removed, to scared pull it myself and there is no sign of infection so assuming she can wait until Monday.

Turns out he wasn't just been awkward with the tea towel body suit, he actually couldn't move. I'm guessing the material of the towel was causing too much friction against the carpet. Anyway it's great as padding for his wheelchair. I will try to get a video tomorrow as he is doing much better with it.
Another trip to the vets today, our vet doesn't want him on Baytril for too long so switched to penicillin. She also suggested using microporous tape to attach some absorbent padding around his waist so that it stays on. So far it seems to be working well. Hopefully having that on for a few days will allow him to heal up a bit. So far none of them have shown any interest in chewing it, that was my first concern. I've spent a lot of time watching and checking on them. Touch wood, they don't seem interested so far.

So after posting that last night I might have jinxed myself. Checked on the ferrets this morning and Mako had some of the tape missing. I've checked the other ferrets and the cage but can't see it. The only other place it could be is under the cage. Unfortunatly because of my back issues and the size and weight I can't move it on my own to check. I'm hoping it's there but started blockage protocol with all three just in case. All three seem happy, energetic and eat their breakfast and then the pumpkin without any problems.
I've got Mako in the cat carrier, Korra in the hallway and Bolin in the cage. I will keep swapping them around but need them separate to see who goes to the toilet.

All three have been acting a little slower today but otherwise fine. I'm putting that down to the heat. All ate well and have gone to the toilet.
We found a bit of tape but it was scrunched up so hard to tell if that was all of it or not.
New flooring down, hope it doesn't hurt Mako, didn't realise how bumpy it will be. Going to have another try with socks and harnesses tomorrow to make him a suit. I will have to keep it dampish to help him stay cool, can't imagine a fur coat and a 'body suit' will be nice in this weather.
