Why did he gave him pain meds ? Did show any signs of pain on abdominal palpation ? What is exactly the name of the drug ?
There are quite a lot of things that can cause vomiting (from foreign objects to bacterial infections). Black, tarry stools may represent the presence of melena.
I would recomand doing an Xray to see if there is a GI blockage, and if everything is fine i would suspect him of Helicobacter mustelae gastritis.
I find it quite unnecessary rushing in a surgery whitout having all the details. Exploratory laparatomy in such a young kit is not the best ideea.

I would be inclined to think stress and helicobater ulcers. Pain meds can mask so much. The fact that he's not interested in food, his stools are dark and tarry would be a primary indication of ulcers. What did the vet do to come to his diagnosis? Years ago, it used to be common to cut open the ferret to see what was wrong. Now that we understand how rough surgery is on them, we're not as quick to go digging around. I understand the disease, he's talking about, it's really uncommon in ferrets unless I'm mistaken. I would be more inclined to think ulcers or IBD/IBS ciao

He seemed uncomfortable when the vet was pressing around his abdominal. He has been doing better his stool is a normal color now but soft probably because the vet had me give him soft food.
Today he seems a little down, my ferret Rupert was a little mean to him yesterday & bit him twice for no reason so Chip whimpered about that & has been down ever since.
I think that it's just stress. I'm keeping him away from Rupert for a while & taking him for a check up from my other vet.

yes . I would keep him away, too. No need of him going thru depressing situations right now,

I made a duck soup recipe for Chip it's packed with vitamins & I am hoping this will fatten him up a little. He's been eating a lot, drinking a lot of water, & his stool is back to normal. My only concern left is the amount of sleep he has been getting. I've never had a ferret this young so I'm not sure if it's normal or if he's depressed or still ill. He runs around the house for like 15 minutes & he's ready to go back to sleep. I adopted Rupert when he was 4 months old & I remember him having so much energy to the point I could barely hold him. Chip is the complete opposite.
