Just watched a couple of meal prep videos and seen on them that people chop up the meats into pieces (sort of thumb sized or smaller). I think a piece that size would probably be fine for my female to eat on her own but I tend to just chop into one piece for my three to share with the exception of organs and heart (I feed 1/2 organ 1/2 heart rather than separate meals) so they don't end up with one ferret eating heart, one eating liver and one eating kidney or pancreas. Usually they eat fine together, the only thing they get really excited over is the organ/heart meal which is already chopped and the mice/chick meals when they get a mouse and chick each anyway. I have noticed that they will eat more if it's chopped into smaller pieces and I do still give some of the bones a good bash (chicken and duck necks and bigger bone in wings, spines and if I feed chicken legs they get a good 'beating'). Just wondered what others do and why? And if I should start chopping their meal into smaller bits or even just into three sections so they have a piece each.

My girls are small so I tend to try for pinkie size (length and width). Thumb size if I want them to work at it a bit more.

My female is pretty small, she's just over 1lb and eats about 1oz a day. I'm not sure if I should be chopping their food smaller, she's maintaining food just fine and is super active, I'm actually more concerned about my boys. One has gone quite slim over his waist and hips (has something going on with his back end). Is there an ideal size to encourage them to eat more but still have the benefits of cleaning teeth? This morning they shared a pigeon chest (ribs and spine) but it was in one piece. Last nights meal was a chicken wing (thicker bone was smashed a few times but the wing was still in one piece). Tea is heart, liver and kidney, each is chopped up into 5 pieces with the hope they will all get at least one piece of each.

Its actually why I serve organ meals as soups. That way no one can run off with all the heart or kidney.
My pieces are as big as I can make them (less prep work for me) split into 6 oz servings. Sometimes it's the whole rib cage of a cgh with some of the breast on it, sometimes its two rabbit legs. Just depends on how I prep it. I wouldn't worry about making them smaller unless they are refusing to eat. Don't make it harder on yourself. If you want, split it into three pieces just so that one can run off to eat in peace if they want to. My one girl will not eat with the others and waits for everyone to be done before tucking in.
I can't remember if it's Bolin or Mako (did I spell those right) who has the back leg issues but it's not uncommon for his muscles to be wasting with less use.

Both spelt right, yes even our vet spells his name wrong. I have chopped thing into three before, but unless it's organs or heart they all stay together on one platform to eat anyway. Organ soupies is a good idea, that way they will all get the right amount. In a way I'm glad to hear that it's normal for Mako to look like this, but at the same time I wish I knew what was going on and someway to fix it. The more knowledgeable ferret vet our vet discussed his case with thinks that it might be permanent.

Oh man, I'm sorry to hear that. I'm only a couple episodes into Legend of Korra so I know the names but haven't gotten far into it yet. Due to time constraints and not about the show. If they are eating well and eating together, I think the bigger the pieces the better. Creates more stimulation for them and allows you to prep faster.

Mako doesn't seem to bothered about it, which really is the most important thing. He can walk, it's really strange. And the other two don't really seem to notice that there is a difference.
I prefer the original show, but it was still enjoyable enough to watch. I keep saying we need another female named Asami.
I don't mind chopping it into smaller pieces if need be, but glad that I'm not causing any problems making them share. They do eat so nicely together. Tea yesterday was organ and heart and they all stayed at the bowl eating until they had their fill, then Korra usually stashes what's left in a corner but she doesn't guard it (except from me...)
