So, I posted yesterday about a ferret with a possible blockage. He has since only used the bathroom three times, and has been drinking a lot. It isn't strange looking or anything. I have felt on his stomach and it isn't hard or anything. However, I feel like he should be using the bathroom a lot more than he has been. He is playing fine and not acting like he is in pain.
Helpful Info: He is severely over weight. (He was like this when I rescued him, we are trying to fix it) He is 8 months old. He is usually on a restricted diet, except for today when I decided to let him free feed to see if it would help him go. He usually goes AT LEAST 6 or 7 times a day. He is being fed kibble. My vet is out of state, and I have been searching frantically for another but most wont do 24 hour unless you've seen them before around here.
I'm stumped here. And quite frantic. Any ideas?

Have you tried the blockage protocol? I might be tempted to give it a try until you get a pumpkin stool. I'm not saying this is the problem. I read your previous post. Is it possible he's not moving around enough?... When you say he's only used the bathroom 3 x...I'm guessing stools or does this include urine as well. I've not owned a kibble ferret...how often should he be going if on kibbles? A raw fed ferret might only go 3x in a 12 hr period. ciao

He usually goes around 6 to 7 times a day. I have started the blockage protocol. He is urinating fine.

I have taken him to a vet in another state, and we are still currently here. He has a small blockage that is not completely blocking him, but needs to be fixed all the same. This vet also says he has something almost the equivalent of autism in ferrets? Some kind of syndrome, although I can't remember exactly what he said it was. Anyone know what this could be?

Waardenburg syndrome, most likely. I have 2 waardies, it's pretty common. They're usually deaf too.

Waardenburg syndrome? or neural crest? they're about the same thing but two different terms for the same issue. It's good that you found the blockage and are going to deal with it. Poor wee mite. Hope he feels better soon ciao

Waardenburg syndrome sounds right. He is indeed deaf. I'll have to research this. Thanks for all the help!

Has the vet done a barium xray? That often pushes a partial blockage through without the need for surgery
