Just so you know I usually consult with the other mentors so a lot of the advice I give you comes from them. Slinky might have a protein sensitivity. Since kibble is really cooked that protein may not cause a reaction in kibble form. Can you get ahold of some lamb, goat or rabbit for slinky?

I figured as much, I just thought it would be nice to have an open discussion about it.
and I think so? My grocery store is little but they might have something. There's also a meat market close to my house that butchers wild game, maybe I can buy some meat there, is it safe to give ferrets wild deer meat?

Oh and Pali can eat chicken chunks alright, provided there's olive oil, and I was able to get them to eat pieces of cut up cow heart.

Yes you can give them wild deer if its freshly killed then it needs to be frozen for at least 4 weeks to kill any parasites on it. Yay Pali! Thats really great that they ate beef heart. Sometimes its a little strong and they don't like it.

Cool. They're not open yet, but I think they'll open soon and I might be able to get my hands on some wild game. I also have an aunt who goes hunting.
I've seen some people give their ferrets raw hamburger, but I haven't seen anyone mention it here on HFF. Just curious what are your thoughts on hamburger or any raw cow meat?

That's totally fine. Its good to have a meal of red meat a week as its high in iron.

Hi Hi.
The boys are doing really good. I have them both switched completely over to soup. It's hard to tell exactly how much they're eating since it seems to vary. Sometimes they lick the plate clean, sometimes they hardly touch it and I have to throw it out.
Slinky is eating both soup and kibble, till I can find goat, rabbit, or lamb. I'm going over to a different grocery store today to see what they have.
Poops look pretty normal.
So giving Slinky a different kind of meat should help her tummy?

If it's due to a protein sensitivity it might. What color were her poops when she was on the soup?

Eating both soup and kibble, they vary from light to dark brown. The first time I took away the kibble and she was on just soup, her poops were a runny yellow. The second time, they were really green and runny, and she was pooping every twenty minutes. I haven't been able to find lamb/goat/rabbit in any of the stores near my house. I'm thinking of taking the ferrets to the vet for a checkup, to make sure they're doing alright, and to see if they have any suggestions for Slinky.

And now that she's got some kibble back in addition to the soup her poops are fine? I know hare today and my pet carnivore sell some grinds, but they can be expensive

Yes, they turn runny and green when she's on just soup, but with kibble and soup, her poops immediately turn to normal.
I'm kind of at my budget's en. I have an appointment to bring the ferrets in tomorrow morning. I'm going to have Slinky's BG checked. She's acting pretty healthy, but she does have a hard time walking on her crooked toes.

So went to the vet today, paid over $350 ouch! and had all the weezies checked. The boys are in great health.
We had Slinky's blood tested, we'll know the results by tomorrow.
What the vet said. He doubts Slinky has any kind of adrenal or insulanoma.
I told him about trying to switch her to raw and about her runny green poos.
With Slinky having a history of tummy problems, usually revolving around bacteria, he thinks it's possible she can't handle the bacteria that lives on the meat. Her tummy is used to kibble and is able handle it, but not the raw meat bacteria. He strongly suggests keeping her on kibble. While raw may be great for many ferrets, it might not be good for all. Slinky is one of those ferrets who can't handle it. I don't want to try and experiment with her food any more. I'm returning her to kibble.
the boys are great on the raw, Pali has gained weight and actually weighs a little more than Gnarwhal now. So I'm going to continue to transition them. Their poos have become more consistent after being on soup for a while and they're on their way to eating meat chunks.
That being said. I think I'm going to leave the Holistic ferret forum and continue transitioning the boys on my own. I simply don't have the time to keep reporting on here.
I do want to thank you. You have been so supportive and have helped me a lot. I do appreciate your time and effort. I know you guys are helping ferret owners around the world for free, and that's fantastic.
So thank you, thank you! I really appreciate it.
