So this morning I noticed she was staggering and falling over. I tried to get a BG reading but I could not get blood from a wiggly ferret without help.
When I got home she was still the same way. We got her to sit still long enough to get a blood sample. It was 40. I called the closest emergency vet and that is where I am now. Waiting for them to take a blood test. I will update with her when I hear something.

She was eating prior to going to the vet. I felt it was better for her to eat, so I waited until she was done eating before taking her. An hour an 20 mins after she ate her BG was at 45.
She is getting an injection and we have to feed her as much as she will eat when we get home. They are sending us home with pred tablets until we can get her in to see the vet on Thursday.

What is worse is that she came back from the vet with bald spots on each side of her neck. not sure why she lost all of her hair on her neck. looks like they scruffed her too hard and her hair fell out. There is also 2 red marks on her neck , look like it might be from fingernails. I will snap a picture of it and post it tomorrow morning, too tired right now and have to get up early for work tomorrow.
She was also so upset when they brought her back. poor thing.
got her home and fed her some soup. could only get her to eat a couple of tablespoons though.

Oh my goodnes, I can't even imagine what I would do if I took one of the beasties in for help and they came out looking worse for the wear. Could the red marks be from where they took blood? I would definitely be calling them to see what happened when I couldn't see. I like vets that let me be there and watch everything. I know sometimes things happen but at least if I watch it happen I can understand it better! I hope she has a nice calm day today, and you too!

msav They might have shaved her neck to help them find the vein for taking blood. Usually my vet takes blood from ferrets in more of the chest area as getting it from anywhere else is so difficult. She let me watch last time and man is that unnerving. Big needle going into such a small creatures chest.

That was my thought also (shaved her neck to draw blood).
Gosh, so sorry you had to go through that
I hope she is feeling better today!

No. they actually came out and said they she is losing her fur. and they pointed out the red marks on her neck like they were already there.
I told them she came in with all her hair. It is not shaved it has fallen out, only thing there is smooth skin. I forgot to take a picture this morning. Got up late, and had to feed her.
They took blood at the toe like I did. In fact I think they used the same meter.
She will see the ferret vet on Thursday afternoon.

I don't ever allow my little ones out of my sight at a vet's office anymore. I had an incident where my one boy needed a blood draw for a full panel. When they handed him back to me he was very lethargic and non-responsive. I complained to the tech who handed him to me and she responded with he had been very difficult to get blood from. I got about half way home he started vomiting and retching. I rushed back but they were closed, even though there was still staff inside they wouldn't answer the door. I was so angry and scared. I drove home and once I got Aremis settled I started looking for a new vet. I've never allowed my little one's out of my sight since. I thought I was going to loose Aremis that night. ciao
