You need either some kidney, pancreas, thymus or uterus in their diet. I believe we have decided that lung doesn't really count as a secreting organ. Otherwise it looks pretty good! Your babies are adorable

You can still feed the lung if they enjoy it! I just would add the pancreas to your rotation. Yes that info needs updated! Hopefully they will enjoy those sardines. Let me know how it goes

Well so far they have not touched the sardines. I chopped them into 4 pieces so they could see the meaty stuff inside but they still had a couple of duck necks they had stashed and ate those instead and then went to sleep. I won't put out the lungs and liver until about 10 tonight so they still might try some. I ordered a FN cage today so I can try a decent feeding den for them. I have the kaytee one that in genreal I think is fine for them but yes it is a pain to clean and it really does not have enough room to put a proper den in. I wasn't worried about the lack of space before because we do let them out for a good couple of hours a couple of times a day so they really are only in there to sleep and eat, but now I want so much more! Hehe

I don't think they ate any of the sardines at all. They did have left over duck neck they were eating though. I'll try again with the sardines next week, or maybe I'll switch out a meal on Friday or Saturday for them and I'll work with them on it. They are now fighting over beef heart chunks. Oddballs prefer to steal food from each other rather than just grab a piece from the bowl!

raynebc Avatar yesterday at 3:58am raynebc said: hurricanekatt In another thread (http://holisticferret60.proboards.com/post/254182/thread) you indicated lung isn't as good a secreting organ source as some others. Could you confirm if this is the case? Searching on the forum it looks like most mentors typically considered lung a suitable secreting organ. If necessary I could mix lung and kidney together in organ meals, but up to now I thought these two organs were mostly interchangeable. Lung isn't typically considered an "organ meat" by the definitions that we use for diet (major hormone secreting organs). Lung really is its own category - it is a very unique tissue and one that I personally feel is underfed as it is a rich source of Vitamin B and Iron. Despite it not falling into our limited definition of an "organ," when feeding it it should be treated like organ meat, but it shouldn't be the full "other" half as it is potentially missing in other nutrients that other organs (kidney, brains, etc) provide. That is kind of confusing so if my description didn't make sense please let me know and I will try again. I'm still drinking my coffee. Read more: holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/15813/copper-reskas-switch-thread?page=36#ixzz3Yc2h17flNow I understand about the lung. I definitely wondered about it as it really only secretes mucous but this is a good breakdown.

You don't have to feed lung, BUT it is a good organ to feed once a week or every other week. I dont really count it into my organ meal. More like a muscle meat meal.. Does that make sense?
As for the sardines, yes you will find stuff they are like.. absolutely not mommma! Thats gross! and they wont touch it. Good luck, I have quite a few that hate lamb and refuse it and I've never won the battle of getting them to eat it. Just like people I guess.. we have our own tastes for foods.

Well I'm thinking lung is not a big hit either. They ate all the liver and left all 3oz of the lung. I see organ soup has worked for some so maybe I'll give that arty next time. Since Missy started stashing in the littler box they do not use it now and I'm going a bit crazy trying to keep the cage clean. I have a FN one coming towards the end of next week and am hoping I will be able to correct this issue with a feeding den then. I just hope it's not too late and all the good litter box training they had before comes back! I may actually need 2 dens, right this minute one is taking a duck neck to one stash spot and the other to another and then they are going to each other's spots and stealing it and taking back to their spot. They have been doing this for 3 minutes now. It's kind of amusing.

All of dinner and all of breakfast gone with the exception of a few small pieces each time, not worth weighing out.

Ate all of breakfast. My rodent pro order came yesterday so I will be trying some pinkies for them tomorrow I think. I got rabbits in this order, I guess I need to figure out how to butcher them. They are huge. Lol

I like to butcher when stuff is still partially frozen. It makes it easier to slice. The spine of the rabbit is pretty tough to cut through.

Do you skin them first? I looked at the bunny this morning and, oh my I'm lost as to the best way to serve them after I butcher it.

Well if you want to feed it whole then you could just try to make cuts on it so the meat is exposed and see what they do, but that would waste a lot of rabbit. I'd skin it and cut it up into pieces to start. I feed a frankenprey diet and buy my rabbit mostly in chunks from my pet carnivore.
Your menu looks great!

Thanks! I butchered the rabbit today and took the other 3 out of the freezer to be able to do on Monday. This is the end result, a bowl of bone in rabbit and a bowl of organs and a little bit of muscle. And this is Missy with the head in the bathtub
