Heather, sorry, just going by what I've been told (by The Raw Feeding Community) although there are issues with lack of clarification there. I've been told so many different things, lol.

It's one of the problems with working from different sites. Not all raw sites agree on information, when in doubt double check with any of the admins or mentors. If they don't know then we can discuss it and clarify it. One of the biggest issues is conflicting information, especially when discussing different carnivores dietary needs . ciao

So I went shopping for Mia today (Sunday that is)(& the boys) Since there wasn't time to prepare Sunday's meal, I made sure that I had Monday's ready. This is the meal plan I set up for her... I doing it based on 22 lbs with each daily serving size 7.04oz SUNDAY | MONDAY | TUESDAY | WEDNESDAY | THURSDAY | FRIDAY | SATURDAY | Bone In- Duck | Bone In- Quail | Bone In- Rabbit | Bone In- Duck | Bone In- Quail | Bone In- Rabbit | Bone In- Duck | Muscle- Beef | Muscle- Goat | Organs | Muscle- Duck Gizzard | Heart/Organs | Muscle- Pork | Muscle- Lamb |
Since Mia is allergic to chicken, I had to think of another way to get bone in & bone light enough to run it through my grinder. Mia's human doesn't want her to have any chunks of bone since Mia is a gulper. I'm hoping that I'll be able to run rabbit through it ok. I bought pork kidney, brain, spleen, liver & I also bought beef blood too.. bought some for my boys too. oohh my they were just as excited over that as when I gave them salmon oil. Since I was running out of time, I have the duck wings, quail & goat all ground up. I mixed some quail bone in & goat muscle together, made little meatball patties out of them & put a little hole in the center & poured a little beef blood in the center. Karm will give her 1 quail egg in the morning for & 1 in the evening w/ her little meatballs & 2 squirts of salmon oil for each meal as well. We are gonna have one happy woof on our hands. She was watching me prep the whole time too, following me everywhere.

Looks good! For the organ meals, just make sure they are balanced (via ounces and etc) That's great about the dehydrator, where'd you get it? I've been meaning to get one for a while now.

OK so I've been looking over my percentages & I'd like to bounce something off of you... Based on therawfeedingcommunity.com/2014/12/31/a-simple-guide-to-switching-to-homemade-raw/ & the chart that is on that site, docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1v5onvz6zKnyZOYxcqVtjvKWu3s_ZHuo7oO4Hj97p_xs/edit#gid=0, for a dog's weight being 22 lbs it says that the 2% ratio on a weekly basis is: 39.42oz muscle, 4.93oz bone in, 2.46oz liver, 2.46oz other organ. Then something is wrong with my meal plan because she is getting more bone in than muscle. I've been doing 3.52oz bone in for a daily meal for all days except the organ days.. those get more... so.. I think I need to redo my meal plan... & I've already got 1 month already done AND mixed in so I'm thinking of sticking w/ that for the month then switch. I Think I'm gonna change it to: --------------------------------------------- SUN 5.65oz Beef (muscle) 1.00oz Duck (bone in) 0.40oz Heart, Liver, Other Organs --------------------------------------------- MON 5.65oz Goat (muscle) 1.00oz Quail (bone in) 0.40oz Heart, Liver, Other Organs --------------------------------------------- TUE 5.65oz Duck Gizzard (muscle) 1.40oz Heart, Liver, Other Organs --------------------------------------------- WED 5.65oz Pork (muscle) 1.00oz Rabbit (bone in) 0.40oz Heart, Liver, Other Organs --------------------------------------------- THU 5.65oz Lamb (muscle) 1.40oz Heart, Liver, Other Organs --------------------------------------------- FRI 5.65oz Beef (muscle) 1.00oz Duck (bone in) 0.40oz Heart, Liver, Other Organs --------------------------------------------- SAT 5.65oz Goat (muscle) 1.00oz Quail (bone in) 0.40oz Heart, Liver, Other Organs --------------------------------------------- The amounts are based off of what my scale reads 7.05oz daily meals The other thing I want to note is that Mia doesn't eat any meaty bones. Karm doesn't trust her with them. I have been running, quail, duck wings & rabbit through my grinder under a fine grind (I use a course grind for my ferrets though). So with that in mind, do I stick w/ what I have been doing using the other menu & splitting the 7.05oz in half.. so 3.50 or 3.55 bone in & 3.5 muscle & for the organs it's 5oz bone in 2.45oz organs. I want to make sure that I'm doing it right for her..... HELP!

I'm not entirely sure, so I'm gonna ask Heather if she can help with that, I don't want to tell you wrong as I'm not great with percentages and my dog isn't currently raw fed.

Is it OK if my boys have an egg a day? Their fur is excruciatingly soft. Especially Zim's. Its crazy because went bald on his butt & lower rump & around his shoulders for a couple weeks to a month & then it started growing back & with a vengeance. It was amazing how quickly it grew back too compared to my previous ferrets I had & when their fur grew back when they went bald.
Um I hope its OK for them each to have a quail egg daily mixed w/ beef blood & salmon oil cause they sure do love it & I think it accounts for their healthy fur & skin too.
:UPDATE: Mia (my roommate's dog) has been on raw for about 3 weeks now. I have the old mix which was mostly bone in & the new mix which is in my last notes. The bone in old mix causes constipation for her so I advised my roommate Karm to either alternate old & new til the old is gone or to mix 1 old & 1 new & split that between 2 days for her til the old is gone.
UPDATE FOR MY BOYS I have decided to mix their bone in, muscle & organs as part of their daily meals in hopes of getting them to eat the muscle since they are obstinately stubborn about it.

Most of the mentors suggest no more than 1 or 2 eggs per ferret per week. If they're just sharing one each day, in addition to their other food you might be able to get away with skipping egg one or two days a week.

is it bad for them to have quail eggs more often?
they're like little pigs when I add egg, salmon oil, water & blood to their food (especially zim). he weighs more than dex & is a little smaller in length compared to him. & he's the one that used to weigh less!!
I know that salmon oil just causes looser poop & that they smell more fishy but that's it
& oo boy do they like the blood added to their food...

Quail eggs are so much smaller than chicken eggs that one quail egg a day probably wouldn't be a problem. On the other hand, duck eggs are huge and a couple of those a week may be pushing it. It's more about the amount of egg than the number that's of concern.

the boys are doing great
zim is fat, happy & silky smooth.
dexter weighs slightly less & not as silky smooth & looks skinnier (probably because he's... taller?)
mia (roommate's dog) is doing pretty good as well.
since I'm now taking a week's worth of food, mixing it up & putting them in containers.. i've been mixing some quail eggs on occasion in w/ the food but mainly I've been adding beef blood in & ooooo boy watch em go
