Switch the rattle to a different sound and re-train them (for a treat they love like EVOO it won't be difficult). I trained my girls to come when I make a clicking/tsking sound. I started by having them on my lap, making that sound, and then continuing to make that sound while I give salmon oil. Then, once or twice I day I would do the same thing. By the end of the week they would completely drop anything they were doing and gallop over the second I started making that noise They also come to their names individually, as well as "girls" meaning both of them... Although they know it's only for cuddles/attention and not a treat so they usually only saunter over, not sprint.

Coming up on 2 months now & the boys are still doing pretty good. Sometimes they eat a lot sometimes they don't. At least I'm not worried as much. They've pretty much gotten used to goat which they prefer over pork. I'll only give them 1 2oz pork serving between the 2 of them since they rarely eat more than that.
I've written out their schedule & taped it to the wall next to their cage.
Zim's scar from his surgery is mostly healed but he, of course has a bald neck... I wonder how long it'll take for his fur to grow back... & he's almost weaned off the Prednisilone. My vet wants to keep an eye for any further lump growths. He still has a few small ones so I just need to keep my eye no them.

ok ok So I admit it. I like giving my boys treats in their food. Since they are good at eating goat & picky with pork, I mix in a quail egg & some olive oil & down it goes. Since they only get muscle 2x a week, I figure ... hey why not.

One small question. When you say muscle meals 2x times a week, are you including hearts as muscle meat? I can reread your thread, but I'm hungry and want to sign off because I haven't had breakfast yet. I ask because muscles meat should be 3-4 meals in a week. Unless, you feed once a day. I like feeding mine in ways that make them eat better also. I have to watch the oil and limit it some. Mine are crazy over fish oil, so I keep to 1/3 tsp per ferret every 3 days or mine get super loose poop that smell fishy.

I've been following Celene's Schedule
Each serving is approximately 2 oz
Sun- Bone In & Heart/Organ Mon- Bone In & Muscle Tue- Bone In & Heart/Organ Wed- Bone In & Bone In Thu- Bone In & Muscle Fri- Bone In & Heart/Organ Sat- Bone In & Bone In
Per Celene's suggestion I mix together 2 oz heart 1 oz liver 1 oz other organ (I've actually been doing 1/2 oz spleen & 1/2 kidney).
Then I will put the mixture in 2 oz cups, freeze them, then once frozen, I'll pop them out of the cups & put them in a gallon vac-u-sealed bag.

I start with a 2 oz am & 2 oz pm mixed together for both of them. If they finish, I'll give them another set of am/pm
Yes. Its the banana/raisin yogis. Which I haven't thrown away. Its the only thing they come running to so I'm hoping that I can use it to train them to come to something new & keep it as a permanent come hither tool or train them to a new sound
no more ferretone or ferretvite

Never thought of it as bonding but I guess it does. Now to get them to come to me when I call their names... They come when I rattle the yogi treats container which I confess to not getting rid of yet. They come to it. What can I say? If they're hiding & I can't get to them, it's the only thing that works without having to tear apart everything to get to them. Hmmm maybe I'll rattle the container then give them a couple licks of the EVOO so they know that they're still getting something special & coming to the rattle. I still haven't found a replacement treat that gets them all excited like the yogis & EVOO.... What if you took out the yogi's and put some FDR treats in there. You could still rattle the container, the smell would be on the FDR, but they wouldn't get a sugary treat. Whole Life sells 100 percent meat FDR and they will send you free samples: www.wholelifepet.com/prod.php

They haven't shown much interest in FDR but the smell from the yogis on them just may help.

If you send off for free samples, you could mix them into the container with the Yogi's for a day or two. Then pick out the FDR piece and hand it to them. Once they eat the FDR, you could throw away the Yogi's, keep the container and the smell should still be there.
Will they respond to a squeaky toy? Mine come running. Roamy gets quite upset at the sound and tries to pull our hands away. I'm not sure if he is protecting us or the toy.
It did save him though when he got out and was outside overnight. When I realized he was missing, I went outside and squeaked the toy and called him. His little head popped up out of the groundhog hole. Shudder...Happy ending though.

I will have to try that idea.
As for squeaky noises... nope no running... just the yogi container.
Scary about Romey getting out!!!

Awwwwe, lucky guys!
My girls hate leaving the apartment. They'll paw at and wait by the door like they want out, but when we try and take them to the park or wherever they immediately want to go back home!
Any update diet-wise?

They're still not fond of pork or lamb/goat but they're perfectly fine on heart/organ days but then I've been mixing the am & pm meals together & I'll stick an ice cube in their meal 4 hours later. On muscle days, man do they drag their feet. Bone In days are gone half way through the day.
They've been eating anywhere between 2oz - 4oz between the 2 of them. I need to weigh them again.
How much do ferrets lose during the spring/summer seasons?
