Oh so here goes This is the one from the day I rushed him to the vets, the first time he fully dragged his back end. He sort of pushed with his feet a bit... hope you can see the video www.flickr.com/photos/81125586@N06/16928721857/in/photostream/These are all from just now, he was asleep when I went up, so at first he was a little groggy, and then towards the end was fed up of coming. I really struggled to get the right angle as he wanted to fallow me or go back to bed, he didn't want to walk around but wanted to be close to me. I have took a few videos so can upload some more but didn't want to go crazy. www.flickr.com/photos/81125586@N06/17135049892/Can't seem to add the videos to the thread. Quick google didn't give me any answers either (unless I use youtube).

I'm not seeing your video. Thanks, I've tried searching for a bbcode way to link it, but unless I use youtube as the host I haven't found an answer that works. Any idea? In the mean time I've posted links for the first video and the longest one. No point linking them all as it's easier to just click the arrows to have a look than keep coming back to the post.

Hi Redsky I could see video what is the muscle like on his back legs is it wasting ? if so I would try him with some water therapy ( put a towel under his middle and lower him into a warm bath) and make him swim a couple of lengths each day gradually increasing it to make him use those legs and keep up his muscle tone as once he looses it its hard to regain good look with your baby he looks so sweet take care bye for now Bev

Hi Redsky I could see video what is the muscle like on his back legs is it wasting ? if so I would try him with some water therapy ( put a towel under his middle and lower him into a warm bath) and make him swim a couple of lengths each day gradually increasing it to make him use those legs and keep up his muscle tone as once he looses it its hard to regain good look with your baby he looks so sweet take care bye for now Bev He did lose a lot of weight over his back end a while ago, seems much better now. I wouldn't be surprised if there is muscle waste as he isn't walking properly. We don't have a bath, just a shower. I will have a look at getting a paddling pool or similar for him, no idea where to put it though. I have let them play in water in a big storage box but it's not tall enough to fill so he can swim. Mako just walks through it, and still walks funny. I feel I should listen to the vet and do the cage rest first, but will talk about if she thinks water therapy might help. They use a range of treatments in house and we started going to them as we wanted to try acupuncture for our dog, they also gave us moxa sticks to use at home to help his back as he never tolerated pain meds well. Yeah I check through there, it would probably be easier if I were using photobucket or youtube rather than flickr. Normally with pictures I can copy the bbcode but it doesn't have that option on the video, just html code which is <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="400" height="225" data="https://www.flickr.com/apps/video/stewart.swf" classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000"><param name="flashvars" value="intl_lang=en-US&photo_secret=771b811e85&photo_id=17135049892"></param><param name="movie" value="https://www.flickr.com/apps/video/stewart.swf"></param><param name="bgcolor" value="#000000"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="https://www.flickr.com/apps/video/stewart.swf" bgcolor="#000000" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="intl_lang=en-US&photo_secret=771b811e85&photo_id=17135049892" width="400" height="225"></embed></object> And the option is the 'link' or url which is what I've resorted to posting. Think it's about time I got a youtube account anyway.

It does look more like an injury rater than insulinoma. Did you get xrays of his spine? I've (and I'm sure others) have heard of tumors and other spine-related issues. I think rest is a good Idea. Why not let Mako sleep with him? My ferts don't do much in the cage but poop sleep and eat.

I agree with unclejoe. That looks like some kind of injury or something going on with the spine to me. He appears quite happy and healthy otherwise. No other signs of insulinoma or anything else suspicious that I can see.

Thank you for your replies. Yes we had x-rays of Mako done, no lumps or anything showed up. Just a bone fragment in his knee and the vet was originally concerned about his pelvis but apparently that's fine. Setting off in an hour to the vets for his steroid injection. Hopefully that will help.
You think Mako would be okay in with Bolin? Names are getting mixed up, probably how I've wrote it. Mako is the one who is having trouble walking. Bolin had surgery to remove his spleen about 4 weeks ago. I might alternate Bolin between the two as Korra has started sleeping with them both and I think it would be unfair. But she is too rough with the boys for me to allow her in with Mako.
If it is permanent he might do better once I've moved them into a shed outside anyway, more floor space. I can make the ramps gentle slopes rather than how they are in the FN and make any shelves hard to fall off.

Vets went nice and smoothly this morning. With the help of the salmon oil he didn't feel the needle or if he did it didn't stop him licking it up Our vet warned that he might eat and drink loads and if he's particularly bad then to call her on Friday and we can reduce the dose of the steroid tablets. I've brought home a bottle of with 7 tablets of Prednicare 1mg which I believe is prednisolone. I'm to start them on Saturday and give him 1 crushed in his food. Soupie will be really handy I'm sure. She said the specialist recommended strict cage rest, to be on his own, no handling. If he's any better in a week to continue until he stops improving, if he's no better than it could be permanent damage. Vet and I agreed that left in his cage he would be more likely to damage himself trying to escape than if he came out. So twice a day for a quick gentle wonder around. She recommended alone but I will let Bolin out if they are both sleepy so he's still seeing his BFF! 2 problems now. 1) It's a whole quail for tea, not sure how to work this. Might give up and give him a couple of mice and some soup. 2) The cage seems so tiny. They share a double CN. He's on one level, no shelf, no ramp, no hammocks. He's rubbish at toileting unless on a puppy pad, and he likes to spread out his 'presents'. His water bowl, food and bed take up pretty much all the rest of the space. Am I being dramatic and he's fine or should I insist we get him another set up? I feel bad, my dwarf hamster has more room than he does! For those who are interested I worked out the sizes of both cages. My hamster is in a zoozone 2, it's 100cm by 50 (some say 51) cm at the widest point as it's sloped. Since I add so much bedding the widest point is my hamsters 'floor' so 5000cm squared. The critter nation is 36" by 24" which is 91.44cm by 60.96cm (according to google) which makes it 5574.1824cm squared, so yeah Mako has more room.

Thanks Bev, I feel better about locking him in a shoe box. You're right the entire point is he's not supposed to move much. Giving him more space is counter-productive. Thanks
