If nothing else your wee boy needed a BG done and to be put on pred (usual protocol) It sounds like his insulinoma is getting the better of him and he will eventually seizure (I'm rather surprised at his resilience as it is). Your French is excused, I would have been calling him a lot worse and to his face if he didn't do what I told him to do, but then I'm a nasty old lady and people often think we're crazy so they listen to us. Untreated insulinoma will often give you the symptoms you're seeing. The nausea and refusing to eat is very common and is often an issue even when the disease is being treated. I agree, surgery is not the answer, not on a 9 yr old ferret...proper treatment is and as soon as possible. The longer you wait the more likely a seizure will occur. Do you know the proper protocol if this happens? Do you have karo syrup or honey? It's a horrible thing so see a ferret in a seizure (horrible to watch anything seizure). If this happens do you have an emergency vet available to you? Good luck and keep us posted ciao

Completely agree with Heather- all Vets I've seen haven't really known what to do, so I tell them what I want done, what prescriptions and luckily they've all agreed. Have a BG test done (or have your vet pull the records and tell you if they've done one) if not, a BG test is around $10. If it's under 85, get a prescription for Prednisolone which is probably one of the cheapest drugs out there, and start him on it. At his age and condition this isn't a watch and wait, it's an act and pray. I'm young also and my parents pay mines vet/food/etc bills, it's been extremely challenging and they've put us in debt but sometimes you just have to believe everything will work out. You gotta have some sort of faith to be a ferret owner

Tom has seizured a few times in the past and I've given him honey and a bit of meat to stop him from going back into the attack which does the trick. I'll be asking the vet to do a BG and ask for those medications to be prescribed, thank you! Praying this vet will have common sense and listen to the owner.
I'm managing to get some food into him like pieces of chicken skin and egg yolks, but the poor lad feels so sick. I'm shocked he isn't dehydrated, but he feels ever so light. Our bathroom scales wouldn't even register his weight because he was so light. Saturday can't come soon enough, and I've got everything at the ready if he does go into a seizure and have alarms set to check on him and feed him bits of food every few hours. Will stay updated!

Sounds like you have a great plan set up for him, I hope he perks up and you get some good results on saturday. I don't want to moan but what do you mean by duck soup. I'm aware of a product out there called (I think) Uncle Jim's Duk Soup and have only hear bad things about it, if you mean that you're better just feeding the raw meat soupie based on the recipe recommended under the raw feeding thread, best thing to do is check ingredients of anything and everything you feed and it if ever says anything which isn't meat then don't feed it. If I'm barking up the wrong tree then sorry, don't mean to go on, just want the best for your fuzzy.

There's loads of variations of the recipe I've seen, but I used the ferret-world one where you boil chicken with the skin on it until it's cooked so all the fats come out in the water, take out the chicken and let it cool then debone it. Put egg yolks in the fatty water and let them cook and add the deboned chicken back in and serve it when it cooled. apparently it's extremely good for putting weight on ferrets and helping sick ferrets.

An emergency appointment (not out of hours) has been made for Tom today at 4:30, mum is coming home early from work as I just rang her up in tears - Tom's body is shutting down and his organs are giving up on him where he's just so malnourished. He feels very cold and doesn't want to move or really open his eyes, the only sign he's still going is by how he's shaking a little. I've currently got him wrapped in a blanket and am stroking him. He's going to be put to sleep. He's made it to a very old age, and this is so difficult.. For the past few days I've just been petrified of checking in on him only to find him dead. It'd be cruel to try and save him from this, he doesn't look like he wants to carry on anymore, so I feel this is the right decision. thank you everyone for the support and great advice.

It's comforting to know he's back with his brother now and free of illness and pain. I never saw Tom dook or war dance, he was a very lazy ferret haha But I'm sure he did in his younger days before I met him, and he'll be up there now dooking with Jerry (his brother who passed a year ago). Thank you again, everyone. It's been very touching and comforting to have the help you've all given me over the past few days and I feel it's made the process of letting Tom go much easier.
